Chapter 1: First pitch

Chapter Text

“Since when do you wear glasses?”

Eijun looks up from the homework he’s currently stressing on. It’s another Wednesday night of him spending the night in Kazuya’s dorm room— today’s session is apparently to ask for help with math.

“Since… forever?” Eijun tilts his head to the side, confused. “I wear these whenever I read on my bed or do homework at my desk.”

Kazuya blinks a few times, not used to the sight. “But this is the first time I’ve seen you wearing them.”

The statement makes Eijun tap the temples of his glasses while looking at Kazuya. He blinks back, recalling if what the latter said rings a bell. On the other hand, Kazuya looks at him, as if he’s something that Kazuya’s never seen before.

“Oh!” Eijun holds his pointer finger up. “I guess I don’t bring them here in your room because I always leave them on my desk in my room, but lately my head hurts whenever I read or write a lot. So, I decided to bring them everywhere now, which is why I’m using them right now!”

A small smile forms on Kazuya’s lips, delighted by how enthusiastic Eijun can be when explaining things. “Is that so? I didn’t know idiots can get headaches from studying.”

“Hey! You get headaches too, and it isn’t exclusive to idiots!” The southpaw retorts.

“Oh, you’re saying you’re an idiot?”

“Whatever!” Eijun rolls his eyes. “So this is the first time you’ve seen me wear them?”

“It is,” Kazuya looks back to his homework, and Eijun does the same.

What seems to be two people focused on getting their homework done, Kazuya’s mind is elsewhere. Eijun, who is right beside him, wearing those glasses, makes his features stand out more. Those golden eyes that Kazuya loves to see fired up look somewhat bigger, the frames enunciate Eijun’s cheekbones more, his nose appears to be more pointed—

What the hell.

Eijun looks so appealing that Kazuya unconsciously stops writing, and instead is observing his junior like a hawk. He needs to look away (he thinks he’s creepy by looking at him for too long), but Eijun’s face is like a magnet; Kazuya can’t seem to pull his gaze away.

Though it seems that Eijun notices Kazuya’s pause from writing, so he pauses as well to look at him. “Are you alright?”

Yeah, yes. I’m good. “This is my first time seeing you in glasses…”

Eijun raises a brow. “Yeah? You said that a while ago.”

“But… is it everyone else’s first time to see you… wearing them too?” Kazuya mumbles, but of course Eijun was able to catch that, because of course he can.

“Nope, Kuramochi-senpai and Asada see me wear them almost every night,” Eijun takes off his glass to wipe the lenses. “And Furuya and Kanemaru see me use these during class too. Ah! Haruichi and Tojo saw me wearing them when they visited our room, and I was also wear them when Wolf Boy and I analyze the scorebooks!” Eijun put the glasses back on, smiling at Kazuya again. “So a lot of our friends saw me wear these things already.”

For some reason, Kazuya’s… disappointed? He doesn’t know why, either.

Is it because others saw and knew Eijun wears glasses before he did? No, stop being silly.

“Then… I’m not the first one to see you wearing glasses?” Is what the catcher replies.

This time, Eijun is definitely more confused with the question than his homework. “No? Why?”

Kazuya panics internally, because what the hell is he supposed to say to that? Quick, just tease him instead! “No reason. Just thought I’d become special if I were the first one who sees you wear glasses.” He replies smugly.

Well, he did say something, but Eijun doesn’t look convinced. Ignoring the look the idiot in front of him is currently giving, he goes back to his own homework to continue writing whatever he left off.

Tries to, at least. Because the next thing he feels is a pair of hands moving his face to a certain direction, and everything becomes a little blurry; did Eijun take off Kazuya’s glasses? Kazuya rubs his eyes, looks in front of him—

To see Eijun wearing Kazuya’s glasses. “There. Now you’re the first one to see me wear your glasses. Happy?”

Apparently, Kazuya hasn’t said anything for a while, because Eijun gives back the glasses (slides them back gently and perfectly onto Kazuya’s face again) and wears his own, going back to pick up a pencil and scribble again for the nth time that night. Kazuya mirrors the action, trying to ignore the heat filling his entire face.

Kazuya’s unable to finish his homework that night.
