Chapter Text
The days pass quickly, always the same. Wake up, eat, work, eat again, sleep, repeat. In twenty-eight years, I’m honestly glad that I’m finally able to get a bit of rest. Even if my dreams aren’t always as peaceful as I would wish them to be. Like every other day, I wake up to the soft voice of Lano, my Lano. “Alan, dear, I made pancakes today.” I smile, blinking open my eye to catch his while he’s still leaning over me. “With extra sugar?” I ask, smiling wider when I see him nod.
I grin and get up, the blanket falling off my bare chest. Soft hands pull me up as my eye closes again, fingers tangling into my chest hair. I pull the blanket off my legs, throwing them to the side, standing up. I bend down, grabbing a shirt off the floor. Neither of us is sure who it once belonged to, but we have given up on figuring it out.
Lano walks ahead to the kitchen, and I follow closely, my eye locked on his back. He laughs in front of me, probably knowing that I’m staring at him, my eye tracing his every move. “Don’t think I don’t notice you, O’ Cruff,” he starts, turning to me, grinning. “You’re not exactly
subtle, you know.”
I chuckle, looking away, feeling my cheeks heat up. My eye passes over the many pictures and paintings I often glance at; a forest in a faraway place that I’ll never get to visit, me and Lano back when we were still in one piece, a black wolf howling at the moon and its twin painting of a white one.
I follow Lano into the kitchen, immediately looking at the pancakes stacked onto a plate in the middle of the table. When he sits down, I can finally see the soft smile that has been on his face since we spoke in the hallway. “Have a pancake,” Lano says, smiling at me. “I didn’t make them to just lay here.” I chuckle and quickly pull a pancake onto a plate. Lano follows suit, and we eat in silence, enjoying the peace.
I catch Lano glancing at my missing eye, and my remaining one slips to his missing fingers. Lano notices and wiggles the small stumps, making us both break out in uncontrollable laughter.
I wipe away a small tear after almost a full minute of well-deserved laughter. “Well, we sure got our spirits up.” Lano chuckles.
“True, true.”
I smile at him, my eye narrowing as I watch the sunrays bounce off his golden hair, making it light up. He smiles at me, his blue eyes shining. They remind me of an endless ocean, sunlight moving over the waves along the shoreline. He chuckles, noticing my gaze, and stares right back into my eye. He always says my eye is green like a thick forest in June, sunlight seeping through the leaves, falling onto the green moss. I don’t believe him; my eye is this muddy shade of green that I’ve never really liked, but his version sounds much more poetic, and so, I’ll go with it.
I smile at him, stuffing the last bit of my pancake into my mouth. I probably looked stupid, but Lano doesn’t seem to mind. He smiles wider, even. “Oh, Al, my silly little wolf.” Lano snickers, reaching his hand out to put on top of mine. “Shut up, Lan.” I counter, standing up and grabbing Lano’s plate, putting it on top of mine, taking them to the kitchen. I lay the plates in the sink, letting the water run to soak them. Lano chuckles softly behind me, and I can hear him getting up as I bend down to grab the dish soap from the cabinet.
Arms wrap around my waist, and I look down at the hands on my stomach. These hands, these soft hands that shouldn’t have been ruined this way. He squeezes tighter, a laugh escaping my mouth as I wash the dishes, Lano leaning his chin on my shoulder, buried in my long, red hair. I flush the plates clean, the water running down them. One of Lano’s hands latches off to hand me a towel that I gladly accept, though slightly sad at the loss. I start drying the dishes, smiling again when I feel Lano’s touch once more.
Lano’s body presses up against mine and I feel his nose touching the back of my neck. I lean back into the touch, and I feel his grip tighten on me. I put the plates away, turning to Lano and looking straight into his eyes. He smiles and his eyes start to twinkle.
He comes closer and closer, until his nose is against mine. I press my face closer to his and tilt my head slightly sideways, our lips fitting together like puzzle pieces. His tongue runs over my lips and I’m more than happy to comply. My lips part slightly, letting him in, his tongue intertwining with mine. I let out a muffled groan as he presses me against the counter, my eye slipping open, having only just closed. Lano’s hands move under my shirt, his palms against my stomach.
The counter and Lano’s hands are cold and I bite down another groan. Lano looks at me, his eyes wide and wild with desire. Our lips clash together once more, though it has too much teeth to feel as great as it could be. Neither of us seems to mind, as Lano
immediately presses his hips to mine. I rest my hands on his waist and pull him closer, making sure our lips stay together. He rubs against me and I can no longer suppress my sounds. Lano smiles against the kiss.
Lips leave mine and I let out a soft whine. He chuckles and pulls away. I pout as I watch him walk to our shared bedroom. “Why do I love you, again?” I ask, walking past him. “Because you’re weak, Darling.” He chuckles, grinning as I pout harder and walk to my room.
Lano laughs behind me and I go into the workspace. On my desk is my computer, the one I use for work. I’m currently writing a book. Yesterday, I spent the whole day just staring at the words on the screen. I don’t assume today will be any different.

I was right, I have been staring at the last word for so long that I’m not exactly sure what it is anymore. I think Lano might’ve come in half an hour ago. There is a glass of water next to me that wasn’t there when I got here. The door creaks open and my head shoots up.
Lano chuckles and grabs the glass. “Look who finally decided to snap out of his trance,” Lano mutters, bringing the glass to my lips.
“You look tired, My Love.” I part my lips, letting the water enter my mouth as I let out a muffled groan.
Arms wrap around my neck while Lano forces more water down my throat. I lean back against Lano’s chest. He puts the glass down and types on my keyboard, adding more sentences to my work. I watch in silence, my eyes adjusting to the new words. “Huh…” I mumble, reading the passages. “This good?” Lano asks, and I nod slowly.
My head turns to meet Lano’s, our lips pressing together. “I was getting you for lunch,” Lano says and my eye widens. “Oh, don’t look at me like that, you know damn well that time passes quickly when you’re stuck on something.” I chuckle and sigh, standing up and stretching my sore limbs. I should really stop doing this.
Lano guides me to the kitchen and stuffs a piece of toast into my hands. I smile and nod as a thanks. He pushes me into my chair, and sits down across from me. He grabs his own bit of toast and takes a bite, I do too. He made it just the way I like it, the bread itself nice and golden, the cheese perfectly molten. I hum in pleasure and Lano chuckles, taking another bite.
We finish the food and Lano helps me up, kissing my neck once I’m on my feet. I smile and turn my head, planting a kiss on his forehead. Lano smiles against my skin, only to pull away a second later. My eye follows his moves as he starts to clean our plates. I hand him a towel to dry them off and he kisses my nose. A giggle escapes my mouth.
I turn away, taking a deep breath and looking around the room. Once Lano finishes, he turns around and crosses his arms, looking at me like he expects something. I look at him, tilting my head. Lano lets out a laugh. I tilt my head more.
Lano grabs my shoulders and kisses me before he leads me to my room. I sit down and Lano hugs my shoulders. I hum, my eye closing. Lano looks at my screen as I blindly add a couple more words. “I think that’s a good ending, Al.” I open my eye and look at my screen.
“Should I read it from the start, check for mistakes?” Lano nods and kisses me while he scrolls all the way up. “A long time ago… Really, Alan?” I snicker, “Well, yes, it was the best choice.” Lano laughs.
“Okay, a long time ago…”
Damn, it really is stupid. I clear my throat.
“A long time ago, there was a boy.”
