Work Text:

Charlie held the door and his breath as he watched Nick Nelson walking towards Mr. Lange's room. When they'd first been sat next to each other, Charlie couldn't help noticing him. But it had been a surprise how nice Nick was, and how much he enjoyed talking to him every morning. He had never stood a chance.

💙💛

At lunch, Nick caught the ball and Charlie's eye as the rugby lads tussled. The crush he had on Nick was getting ridiculous. Every morning, Charlie stole glances at Nick, feeling his cornflakes tumble in his stomach. And to his utter amazement, Nick smiled back. He was kind and thoughtful. Tao was skeptical.

“You do know that he's friends with them? The laddiest lads that ever ladded? I bet he's totally different with his cool bro friends,” ranted Tao.

“I think it's sweet,” said Isaac.

Charlie just shrugged. “I don't know, he seems… different.”

“Different doesn't mean better,” grumbled Tao.

💛💙

Agreeing to join the rugby team may be one of the stupider things Charlie had ever done, but he prepared to tackle Nick and his nerves, palms sweaty and heart beating fast. He wrapped his arms around Nick's waist, dragging him down to the ground in a heap of limbs and giggles.

“Good job. Now try it when I'm moving,” said Nick.

💙💛

Charlie felt Nick's pinky and his rising hopes as he asked, "Would you kiss someone who wasn't a girl?”

Nick's reply was soft. “I don't know.”

Charlie took a look over at Nick, and a risk. “Would you kiss me?”

“Yeah.” It was almost just an exhale, delicate and fragile. But Charlie leaned forward and found Nick's lips waiting, a hundred emotions and two bodies colliding into one perfect moment.

Notes:

I'm not dead, but the last 6 months have been some of the most stressful of my career, and any capacity for writing and creativity has been taken up by other demands. I'm hoping to get some momentum rebuilt in little one shots until there is space in my head for larger stories again..
