“What was Nick’s last name?” Oliver asks.
Charlie nearly chokes on a sip of his drink. “Sorry, what?”
“Nick. Your Nick. What was his last name?”
“Nelson. Why?”
“My form teacher’s name is Mr. Nelson. I think he’s new this year.”
For a moment, Charlie’s brain halts to a complete stop. He hasn’t talked to Nick Nelson in three years. Hasn’t thought about him in almost as long. It can't be the same Nelson. But what if it is?

Nick and Charlie broke up at the start of Charlie's first year of uni. Unplanned circumstances brought Nick back home to Truham, where he's starting his first teaching job at his old school. When he gets his class lists, Nick is surprised to see Oliver Spring's name in his form group. As if the first year of teaching isn't stressful enough! Meanwhile, Charlie is shocked to hear that Nick is back in town and teaching his younger brother. But what's gone is gone. Charlie can't have Nick back in his life, even as a friend. “I sort of never told him we broke up.”
(or Nick and Charlie date in uni and break up. Except Nick doesn't tell anyone they break up and opps, now Charlie's invited to a family thing, the only solution? Fake date.)

Wandering back over to the empty terminal, he was surprised to see something standing next to the row of seats he’d just vacated. The guy was hunched over the chair, rummaging through a large shoulder bag. From the profile, Charlie admired the stranger’s face, even from a distance he found him strikingly handsome and Charlie found himself walking a bit quicker, taking a seat a few empty chairs down from him.
The stranger looked over at Charlie, revealing a very pretty face indeed, with pale skin and freckles, warm brown eyes, with soft features, giving the man a bit of a baby face. “Hi.”
“Hi,” Charlie echoed back, smiling weakly. He probably looked terrible, that's for sure. He never slept well away from his own bed for so long and the night before a flight was always the worst for him. He’d brought his normal curl shampoo, but he wasn’t arsed to do the whole routine for a day of travel, so he rightfully assumed his hair was untamed and disastrous.
“Glad to know I’m not the only one who is impossibly, embarrassing early for flights,” he joked, standing up fully before taking the seat next to his bag, leaving three seats between the two of them.
