Chapter Text
Echo covered his eyes and winced as the harsh sunlight burned its retinas. The labcoats hadn't told them anything but xe was good enough at eavesdropping that it didn't matter. Echo had gathered that he was going to be fighting outside today, most likely to test their ability to use wide open spaces. As usual Echo didn't know who he was fighting but it never mattered anyways.
Echo is taken down to his regular prep room and sat down in a chair by a labcoat who out of spite echo has not learned their name. Echo sits still as Amelia waltz through the iron door, it giving an annoying click when opening.
" Good morning 2917. Today you'll be fighting a more, aquatic experiment."
The doctor smiles and flicks a syringe. The liquid inside of it is a soft blue, a little teal maybe. And aquatic? Echo doesn't know anyone like that from the few times Echo's met anybody they didn't have to kill, maybe someone got changed drastically. Either way, Echo was not thrilled.
When Amelia stepped forward to administer the shot Echo stared straight at the camera like usual. It wasn't the biggest thing but it's what they could do to show their distaste for the labcoats and their testing. After Amelia pulls out the needle Echo coughs and sputters feeling like his neck is being ripped open, still it makes it to the iron door that leads to the areana.
Echo braces its hands against the walls becasue It's wrong. This isn't what the arena normally looks like. But the walls, they look so similar it even has the blood stains from everyone before. But the arena that Echo knows is dry and solid, not filled with water. Echo takes a moment to still himself and logics that it's most likely because of who Echo is fighting. It'll be okay.
Echo's gaze finds his opponent swimming, nervously? across the arena. They look so small from where Echo is floating, and suddenly it strikes Echo that it doesn't know how to fight in the water. He's never been trained or thrusted in this scenario and because of this, he could die. Finally die. Although nix would still try its hardest to win and not kill the other person.
The one of the labcoats voices crackled over the speaker
"Begin. Aim to kill."
Echo gulped and felt a dispenser splash something on them and the world narrowed down to only the moving figure infront of him.
Echo lunged arms and claw like hands reaching for the other persons neck, to tear, to rip, to make bleed. The only thought in Echos mind was how nice this persons blood would look in the water.
It feels wrong and unnatural to swim and attack at the same time. Echo recoils the first time but something in the back of it's head slams down and forces Echo to continue fighting the person. Times passes and Echo does not keep track of it. Does not look up at the window where they know the labcoats and Amelia are watching. It refuses to see the pure joy these matches give to the doctor. The person gets a couple lucky nicks on Echo but he always returns them stronger and sometimes faster. As the round goes on Echo gets more of a hold on fighting in the new arena and is adapting to the changes needed to make attacks.
Echo is all too aware when its opponent wraps their hands around their neck and squeezes. He slashes and pushes trying to get a hold on them or at-least return the attack.
Part of Echo sinks to the arena floor like a weight when they don't let go despite the several wounds Echo causes. Calm panic washes over him when the black static reaches it's soft spindled hands towards Echo, and in pure instinct Echo takes them
Echos body falls limp, his hands being removed from your back via the waters current and it becomes dead weight. Bubbles rise from their mouth and climb towards the surface where they sit as there's no air pocket for them to escape to. The dead weight of the person infront of you start dragging you down to the floor as well and the speakers crackle again
"Please confirm 2917 is incapacitated"
