Désir/Amour

Summary:

Cups is soft and soulful, wise beyond her years. Wands is fiery and intense, bright like the sun. Both have been burnt before, but they wish to find love again.

Work Text:

Cups likes to think she knows what she wants, but deep down she's wise enough to know she doesn't, not quite. Once she breaks it off with one too many Pages, she swears them off for good, though - they're entirely too immature for her, she finds. Once upon a time she would have dreamt of an Ace to sweep her off her feet, but those days are over, and she's moved on to greater pursuits.

Wands, on the other hand, knows what she wants, but is afraid to materialize it. It's not that she lacks the willpower, but she's been told her whole life that she's too brash, too demanding, too independant, and that her wants are beyond what she should expect. And so she settles for men who are equally as impulsive as herself, endlessly searching for something more meaningful than the high she gets when they inevitably decide to discard her.

Both of the Queens are weary to open their hearts again, but once pulled together they can't deny the appeal of their juxtaposed selves, a symbiosis of suits - passion and emotions. Wands is tired of getting pulled alongside the Knight of Wands who ceaslessly pursues her, only to vanish once more when she dares to open herself up, and she's delighted once she's reunited with her old friend Cups one day, as fate would have it. She looks worse for wear than when she last saw her, she muses internally. The corners of her card are more worn than they used to be, while hers remain almost intact, and she can't help but think about the implications.

Before she can abandon herself to such ideas, Cups comes forward. Between them stands Three of Pentacles, The Sun and Two of Cups, and she can't help but see it for what it is ; a pathway towards something new, something healthy and whole. And she leans into it, with her whole heart and soul, ready to get burnt again, but welcoming the idea rather than dreading it. Cups is worth it.
