Work Text:
Rice Shower looked rather puzzled, fiddling with the dagger at her side as she looked anxiously in Urara’s direction.
“Whats wrong?” her trainer approached her, ready to give her a pre-race pep talk.
Rice Shower stood still for a moment longer, a clear frown on her face as she looked towards her friend. She jumped slightly, her ears perking up as she noticed her trainer.
“Trainer!”
Her trainer laughed “You have such big ears” they commented “you’d think that you’d be able to hear me from a mile away.” They calmed down, placing a firm but kind look on their face. “What’s wrong Rice?”
She moved her hand up from her blade, playing with her oversized sleeves.
“Hmmm” she mumbled, her eyes scanning her trainer up and down. “I’m worried about Haru.”
“Haru?” her trainer turned around to see the younger pink haired girl gliding around the room without a care in the world, her smile as bright as the blinding sun. They turned back to Rice Shower “Haru will be fine.” Despite the attempt at comfort Rice Shower still seemed anxious.
“It’s just-” she placed her hands behind her back, idly playing with her fingers, her eyes darting back and forth between her trainer and her dear friend.
“Rice Shower!” Haru cried from across the room, childishly sprinting towards her.
“Haru” a smile creeped onto her face.
“Aren’t you just so excited!" Haru bounced up and down, her hands flapping gently. Rice gave an uncertain nod, looking at her trainer with a weary eye.
“Haru?”
“Yes!” she nodded.
“Ummm.” she fiddled with her skirt and she thought of what to say. Her trainer gave her a reassuring look, whatever she was anxious would surely be healed if she spoke to Haru.
“Do you enjoy racing?”
Haru stopped for a moment and tilted her head sideways with a confused expression plastered on her face. “Of course I enjoy racing!” she smiled.
“Really?” Rice Shower didn’t seem soothed by her response. “Even though you keep losing?”
“Why would I run races if I don’t enjoy it?” Haru, whether intentionally or not, answered her question with a question.
“Well uhh-” Rice paused for a moment to look at Haru, happy as can be. “I don’t know” her uneasy smile quickly turned into a giggle.
“Silly Rice Shower!” Haru smiled, spinning around. “I always enjoy running! It’s one of my favourite things to do! It doesn't matter if I win or not because I just love it so much.” she rambled on and on, each word as fluffy and sweet as the last. “Who knows, maybe one day i’ll be number 1, just like you!”
Haru’s trainer called for her, “Oh” she smiled “Gotta go! See you at the race.” she giggled as she walked away, an innocently competitive look in her eyes.
Rice Shower turned her attention back to her trainer.
“Is that what you were worried about?”
She shook her head “I like running but sometimes I think that if I didn’t win I wouldn’t care. I want to see Haru win, I don’t want Her to give up”
Trainer smiled “And with her attitude she won’t give up and you shouldn’t either. Now go out there at Get em’”
