Work Text:

It started off with a nonchalant curiosity.

A cold day in late October. Another so-called “free study” period where absolutely nobody in class actually doing studies; Sugishita was napping, Anzai and Kakiuchi were snickering as they taught an innocent Sakura how to access some porn sites, while Tsugeura beside them seemed too busy trying to break his sit-up record.

What about Kiryu?

Well, he’s enjoying his own world at the far back of the classroom. His fingers idly drummed on the desk, while his head bopped following the rhythm of the song that was playing through his earphones. At least, until someone abruptly bursted his bubble by yanking his earphones.

“Suo-chan?!”

His friend grinned sheepishly. “Sorry, Kiryu-kun. You didn’t respond to me after I called your names multiple times, so I had to do that.”

“Nah, it’s fine. Do you need something?”

Suo hummed. He plopped on the empty chair right next to Kiryu before leaning in to take a look at what’s playing on Kiryu’s iPhone.

“What are you listening to? Is it good?”

“Katseye. They’re a fairly new girl group. I heard they’re managed by the same company that also manages BTS.”

Seeing Suo’s lost expression, Kiryu giggled a bit. “Sorry, Suo-chan. I guess you’re not really interested in that kinda thing, huh?”

“Oh, no, no. I listen to foreign music too. But I don’t really pay attention to the celebrities. I usually just listen to whatever I stumbled on.”

“Well, their songs are bop! I think you should give them a listen!”

Suo smiled and gestured at the hanging earpiece that he yanked earlier. “May I…?”

Kiryu wordlessly plugged it into Suo’s ear. They enjoyed the music together—or at least, Kiryu did. And if Suo leaned a little too close to him, Kiryu did not mention it.

The second time, it happened during another “free study” session.

Just like always, Kiryu called dibs on the empty desk at the far back of the class. The comfiest spot according to him.

That day, Suo approached him first— again.

But this time Suo didn’t yank Kiryu’s earphone. He simply sat himself right beside Kiryu and waited patiently until Kiryu noticed him.

“Suo-chan? You need anything?”

Suo pointed at Kiryu’s phone screen. “What are you listening to?”

It’s the same question, but Kiryu did not notice it yet.

“It’s k-pop. Twice. You’ve heard of ‘em, Suo-chan?”

Suo shook his head. His expression was openly curious. Kiryu grinned in delight at the opportunity to introduce his friend again to his favorite songs.

“Well, you gotta give it a try, then!”

And just like before, Kiryu wordlessly plugged the other half of the earphone into Suo’s ear. They enjoyed the music together without anyone bothering them.

Kiryu quickly caught on to what Suo was doing.

Same question. Same motive. Every single time.

That day, Kiryu decided to finally confront Suo. He already noticed Suo walking up to him from several desks away and decided to put up an act —music actually off for once, only pretending to bop his head— until the very last moment when Suo was about to greet him, but then Kiryu suddenly yanked his own earphone and turned at him with a wide grin.

“Hello, Suo-chan. Are you curious about my music taste again?”

Suo laughed softly. “Well, yeah. If you don’t mind, I don’t currently have anything else to do. And I actually think your taste in music is interesting.”

“Hm, is that so?”

This time, Kiryu dangled the earpiece in his hand instead of immediately letting Suo have it.

“But, you see, Suo-chan. I’ve got a feeling that you’ve got an ulterior motive behind all of this.”

“Oh?”

Kiryu leaned into Suo’s personal space, giddy smile on his lips, and though Suo tried to maintain his usual passive expression, Kiryu noticed some small details that gave it away; the little twitch on the corner of Suo’s tiny lips, that faint blush blooming on Suo’s cheeks, and that unmistakable spark reflected in the lone eye staring right at him.

“I think you don’t actually care about my music taste,” Kiryu whispered, “I think this is what you’re after.”

A kiss.

A slow, deliberate kiss. A languid drag of moist lips. A small gasp could be heard, coming from Suo, surprisingly, which was exactly the sweet incentive that Kiryu needed to deepen the kiss.

It was short, unfortunately. Not nearly long enough to Kiryu’s liking. But he had to stop because it was clearly Suo’s first kiss. Despite the efforts Suo did to maintain his cool, as someone much more experienced in the romance department, Kiryu could easily see through his façade.

When they separated from the kiss, Suo immediately let out a soft laugh. “What gave me away?”

“Honestly? My romance radar is actually better than Sakuar-chan.”

“Haha, okay.”

“But mostly it’s the way you keep subtly touching me and caressing my arm.”

“It was all on purpose.”

“I know.” Kiryu propped his chin on his hand and gave Suo a long stare. “So, Suo-chan, where do you wanna go from here?”

“Well, it depends.” Suo’s lips curved into a small, uncharacteristically shy smile that Kiryu secretly thought was adorable. “Do I actually have a shot here, or are you just toying with me?”

“I’ll have you know, Suo-chan, I never toy with anyone.”

“Uh’huh.”

“No, really. I don’t kiss people on the lips just to lead them on. I actually think you’re an interesting person.”

“Interesting enough for you to give a real chance to?”

“Yeah, definitely.” Kiryu reached up and playfully poked Suo’s cheek. “So, will you tell me more about yourself? What’s your favorite ice cream flavor? What kinda music do you listen to when you’re not busy pretending you like k-pop just to score a chance?”

Suo laughed. “I swear I wasn’t pretending. Your playlist is really interesting.”

“You’re really good at buttering people up.”

“No, no. I wouldn’t lie to you. But…” Suo leaned closer, close enough for Kiryu to catch the faint scent of his floral cologne. “…How about a lunch? Or a linner?”

“A linner?”

“Right between lunch and dinner. An afternoon snack, you could say. I know this one cute dessert cafe nearby where we can enjoy both privacy and tasty cakes.”

“Sounds like something I’d enjoy.”

“Tomorrow, after my second patrol schedule?”

Kiryu hummed. “It’s a date, then.”

“It is,” Suo confirmed.

On their second kiss, it’s Suo who leaned first. Kiryu met him midway. Their lips stayed locked on each other until the teacher came back.
