Work Text:
The hoodie was nothing fancy.
It was a plain one; a pale yellow shade with a small Winnie the Pooh head on its front pouch. Kiryu had bought it on impulse after he noticed the discount tag on it during one of his aimless afternoon walks. He realized later on that the color apparently didn’t really go well with his fancy pink hair.
For months, that hoodie merely occupied an empty space in his closet. Until one day Kiryu idly asked Suo to try it on—surprise, the color matched with his boyfriend's pretty tassel earrings!
“You can keep it, Suo-chan.”
Kiryu could recall the giddy feeling when he uttered those words in the quiet of his bedroom. He could still remember the way his stomach fluttered whenever Suo showed up to his house donned in that cute hoodie.
Hoodies were never really Suo’s style, but Suo wore it for him. For a while, that hoodie became something special to Kiryu, despite not owning them anymore.
Until one day.
One day, Kiryu saw Nirei arrive at school wearing that exact same hoodie. His stomach dropped. His chest burned with something so fierce.
Nirei was one of his best-friends at Furin and Kiryu honestly adored him. Yet, at the same time, Kiryu could not help the ugly feeling that surfaced when he caught that sight.
When the lunch break rolled around, and Suo came back from his patrol duty, Kiryu finally had the chance to confront his boyfriend.
“Hey.”
Suo eyed him with a questioning gaze. “You seem tense, Kiryu-kun. What’s wrong?”
“So, uh, you did tell me that Nire-chan was gonna visit you on the weekend, right?”
“Yes. Nire-kun did visit me yesterday. He asked me to tutor him for the math test tomorrow.”
“And, um, that hoodie he’s wearing today, is it yours? Look, sorry, I don’t want to assume but it looks pretty similar to the one I gave you, so…” Kiryu trailed off with a hesitant gaze.
Meanwhile, Suo simply flashed him his usual smile. “Yes. That hoodie Nire-kun’s wearing is mine.”
Hearing that, Kiryu gasped sharply. His eyes widened in surprise despite having expected that answer.
“W-Why? Suo-chan, why?! Why did you lend it to him?!”
“Well, the weather was pretty cold yesterday, and Nirei didn’t bring any warm clothes. So, I thought I’d let him borrow it.”
“But—”
Kiryu’s complaint was sadly cut off when he heard Nirei, Sakura, and the others heading back towards the classroom.
‘Speak of the devil,’ Kiryu grumbled inwardly.
Kiryu was obviously upset. Yet, at the same time, he didn’t want to be a jerk and pounce on the poor Nirei.
For the rest of the lunch break, Kiryu busied himself with his mobile games. He barely glanced up from his phone, not even noticing Suo’s smitten gaze that was aimed his way. At the next class period, Kiryu pretended to be listening to the teachers even though he usually didn’t really pay attention to history lectures.
He made his way towards the school gate as soon as classes ended, not even bothering to spare a glance at his boyfriend whom he assumed must be occupied with his Vice Captain duties, discussing patrol schedules and such with Sakura and Nirei.
Kiryu was so upset that he didn’t even notice the boy who’s occupying his mind was sneaking up on him.
“Boo!”
The sudden whisper into his ear caused him to jump. Kiryu halted on his steps and threw an annoyed glare at the giggling boy behind him.
“Suo-chan! What the hell?!”
“Why are you in such a hurry?” Suo asked, tilting his head like a curious kid. “I haven’t even gotten my Kiss of the Day yet. Did you forget? How mean.”
Kiryu had totally forgotten. The fire of jealousy apparently burned hotter than he thought, muddling with his thoughts and even making him forget some daily routines. But at the time, Kiryu honestly still felt irked by his cheeky boyfriend who seemed oblivious to his dilemma.
“No kisses today, Suo-chan. I’m not in the mood.”
Suo gasped sharply, clutching his chest dramatically as if he was the one who had to deal with the aching jealousy.
“Kiryu Mitsuki, the king of romance, not in the mood for kissing his own boyfriend? How come? Is it an apocalyptic sign?”
The corner of Kiryu’s lips twitched involuntarily at his boyfriend’s dramatic humor. “Suo-chan, c’mon, I’m just not in the mood.”
“Okay,” Suo said simply.
Kiryu raised his eyebrows at how easy his usually stubborn boyfriend folded to his request. Yet, apparently Suo had another thing in mind.
“So, Kiryu-kun, how about coming over to my house today?”
“No—”
“Oh, come on! Yesterday, I found a strawberry pancake recipe on YouTube that I thought you might like. My brothers were home the whole weekend and they almost devoured all my hard work. Can you believe it? Haha! I swear, they resembled hungry beasts instead of actual civilized humans. Whenever I bake something, they always devour it and only leave me the crumbs. They ought to learn some self-control, honestly.”
This time, a fond smile grew on Kiryu’s face. It warmed his heart whenever Suo talked about his “brothers” even though those men were not Suo’s biological family. That warm thought was enough to soften the edge of his sour mood.
“Anyway, fortunately, I have secured some plates for us and hid it from the starving beasts,” Suo barrelled on cheerily, “So, we could enjoy it today and maybe do some Netflix ‘n Chill after chemistry homework . How’s that sound?”
Kiryu gnawed on his lips. He wished he could refuse the offer because he’s really not in the right mood that day. Alas, Kiryu once again felt too guilty to refuse his excited boyfriend. After all, it’s not like Suo was committing some grand crimes like cheating or kissing some random guy’s lips. Nirei was their mutual close friend, and it’s just a hoodie. It’s no big deal.
‘It’s just a stupid hoodie.’
‘It’s no big deal.’
Kiryu silently repeated it in his head like a mantra, willing the bitter feelings to go away.
After they arrived at Suo’s place —the grand traditional house that’s really too spacious for one teenage boy— Suo excused himself to change out of his school outfit.
“You don’t usually change,” Kiryu pointed out.
Suo merely shrugged off his boyfriend’s observative remark. “It’s really hot today. I don’t like staying in a sweaty changsan. ”
It was not that hot outside. It was in the middle of October with autumn leaves decorating the streets. However, Kiryu was too mentally exhausted to suspect anything about it.
It was not until Suo emerged back from his room, donned in a glaringly familiar pale yellow hoodie with a Winnie the Pooh head on its front pouch that Kiryu’s brain suddenly circuited short.
“What the…” Kiryu trailed off, clearly perplexed by the turn of events. “How? I saw Nire-chan still wearing it in the class when the last period ended.”
“Well, I did tell you that the hoodie was mine, but did I tell you it was the exact one that you gave to me?”
With such slow, measured steps, Suo approached his stunned boyfriend. A self-satisfied smirk was present on his infuriatingly pretty face. That kind expression was enough to prompt an irritated scowl to surface between Kiryu’s piercings.
“Really, Suo-chan? You went outta your way just to make me jealous?”
Suo laughed. “Haha, no. Actually, one of my brothers got me the exact same hoodie—the one you saw Nire-kun wearing to school today. What a weird coincidence, right?”
“And your first thought was to pull a prank on me?”
“Well, I thought, why not? It’s not everyday I get to see my normally laidback boyfriend getting so jealous that he glares at people. Poor Nire-kun. I hope he didn’t notice you burned a hole into his back with your laser-beam gaze.”
“Suo-chan, I swear, you are a menace. ”
Kiryu groaned, abandoning the RPG game still playing on his phone, before taking large strides to close the gap with his smug boyfriend and yanked him into a rough, messy kiss—not his usual style, but it fit with the roller-coaster mood he’d been put through that day.
Suo teased cheekily, “Am I in trouble now?”
“Yes. You are in big, big trouble, Suo-chan,” Kiryu murmured into Suo’s lips, tugging his boyfriend down with his hidden strength until they’re both sprawled on the couch. “You better prepare for the worst.”
“Oh, no! What’s my punishment, hmm?”
“A whole afternoon of torture—” Kiryu swapped his wet tongue across Suo’s glistening lips. “—of kisses.”
They ended up spending the rest of the day tangled in front of the TV, a random movie playing as background noise, but their attention was glued to each other the whole time.
