Annabeth, ever the observant demigod, began noticing just how much of his dinner Percy would sacrifice to the gods.
He wasn't exactly the fondest of any of them, so it didn't really make sense to her why he would be giving them so much.
Once she noticed this, she couldn't help but continue to observe the odd behavior.
He seemed to be quite selective with what foods he'd sacrifice. He'd sacrifice meat and asparagus but, whenever there was mac and cheese or cauliflower or a sweet treat, he'd only sacrifice the bare minimum.
This wasn't too strange, she supposed. Everyone has their food preferences. Still, he seemed pretty restrictive...
One afternoon, she decided to bother him about it, so she stood in the doorway of his cabin until he noticed her with a startle, earning a chuckle from her.
"What's up?" he asked, poorly hiding his startled reaction.
"Why do you barely eat?" she asked bluntly. Percy felt his entire body go rigid at the question. "We both know you don't love the gods that much"
"It's, um..." Percy swallowed. "Sorry" he shook his head and chuckled nervously. Annabeth didn't say anything, but she walked into the cabin and sat next to him on his bed. He looked at her and managed a small smile. "It's hard"
"What's hard?"
"Eating" he answered. He'd never really explained it to anyone before. He'd never had to. He didn't think anyone would notice. Then again, this was Annabeth.
"That's okay" she leaned back. He felt a weight come off his shoulders at this. She could be a hardass sometimes but, at the end of the day, she wasn't a judgmental person. Not with him. "Is it just certain foods, or..?"
"Yeah" he nodded, fidgeting with his jeans. This felt extremely vulnerable for him, but Annabeth didn't even seem phased. "Yeah, it's- I can only eat- I mean technically, I could eat other- I mean-"
"Seaweed Brain" she cut him off with a smile. "I get it" she told him. He let out a strong exhale at this. "Have you tried talking to Chiron or Mr. D about accommodations?"
"...I can do that!?"
"Yeah" she laughed. "I can go down with you later to talk to them if you want" she offered. "Just so you can get more nutrition and not have to sacrifice half your plate to the gods every night"
"That would actually be really nice"
"Will do" she nodded, then suddenly jabbed him in the side with her elbow.
"Ow!" he yelped, though it was mostly out of surprise rather than pain. "Annabeth, what the f-"
"People are more than willing to help you, y'know" she teased. "Everyone here has something. All you have to do is ask"
"Noted" he nodded, rubbing his side. "Asshole"
"Yeah, yeah, whatever you say, Waterboy"
"Okay, now that's just rude"
"As rude as the time you compared me to the dumb blonde from Mean Girls?"
"She's an interesting character!"
"Mhmm, yeahhhhh. And what about that time when..."
