Lissa couldn't believe that Regna Ferox's winters were so harsh. She couldn't believe that Lon'qu could withstand this type of weather. Most of the time Lissa wanted to stayed holed up in her shared room her husband, but she couldn't do that anymore. Not since having Owain nearly five years ago and he is a very active child. Lissa knew that he got his energy from her, there was no way he got it from Lon'qu. She wondered if Lon'qu was okay with have a child as energetic as their son took a toll on him. He never did speak his feelings about it; he did seem really happy when Owain was born. She never saw him smile more than the day he was born.
She sighed as she walked through the arena. She was trying to find Lon'qu and Owian since her husband had begun training their son for swordsmanship way too early. He was only five years old, he didn't want to do that now, he wanted to play and play pranks on other people. She pinched the bridge of her nose when she couldn't find either of them in the arena. She that, at least, was relieving. Owain couldn't get hurt with something pointy and stabby. That didn't help her trying to find them. Lissa hated that Regna Ferox was a lot bigger than Ylisse, she kept getting lost and had trouble finding people.
"Lon'qu! Owain!" Lissa called out, not getting a response in return. "It's getting really cold out and it's almost dinner time! Lon'qu, you know Owain loves dinner time!"
She shook her head and kept walking around, only stopping when she heard a familiar laugh. She slowly kept walking towards the high pitched laughter and a deep, soft laughter. Lissa placed one of her hands over her mouth, trying to hide her smile. Her husband slowly ran away from their son, pretending to escape him. She watched as Lon'qu pretend to trip over a snow covered rock as Owain pelted him with snowballs. She felt her chest flutter as Owain climbed onto Lon'qu's chest, covering his father with snow.
"Mommy!" Owain yelled out, scuffling towards Lissa. He grabbed her hand, pulling as hard as he could towards Lon'qu.
"Hello Owain," she smiled, letting him guide her to his father. She looked at him, meeting them half way. "Hello, dear."
He nodded, giving her a small kiss on her cheek.
"You two seem like you are having fun," she laughed, placing her hand on Lon'qu's face. His face was soft, but cold. "How long have you been out here?"
"For some time," Lon'qu answered, pulling away. "Owain wasn't taking his nap, I thought taking him out to have a snowball fight would help wear out."
"So you've been out all day?" She asked, picking up Owain.
"Yes! It's been very, very fun!" Owain chirped.
"You know as well as I do he has a lot of energy," Lon'qu reminded her, pinching their son's nose, and hearing him giggle. "Sometimes putting him down for a nap isn't feasible."
"I'm a napping menace!" Owain yelled, throwing a surprise handful of snow.
Lissa laughed as Lon'qu sighed.
"Though, we should be getting back home," Lon'qu said, placing his hand on the hilt of his sword.
"Noooo," Owain complained, trying to wiggle out of Lissa's arms. "I wanna play with mommy out in the snow!"
"As much as I want to, baby," Lissa said, holding Owain tighter so he doesn't fall to the ground. "But your father is right. It's only going to get colder out and you're going to catch a cold. Plus, don't you want dinner? It's your favorite meal time."
Owain made little pouty sounds as he struggled to get out of his mother's arm, ultimately failing. "I wanna play with you in the snow."
"I know, my little rolly polly," Lissa sighed as Lon'qu helped secure him. "We will have many more days to play with each other. It's late out."
"Listen to you mother, Owain," Lon'qu chimed in, taking his scarf and putting it on Owain. "It's best we head home."
Owain huffed and crossed his arms. He didn't say another word.
Lissa, with her free hand, held Lon'qu's as they walked back to their home. It was small, but it had two rooms, a small little kitchen, a small place for all of them to eat, and a fireplace. As Lissa put Owain into he room for him to play by himself, Lon'qu started a fire in the fireplace. Once she was done, she started to make a stew. She wasn't great at making anything, but with her husband's help, she could at least make a basic beef stew. Lon'qu peeled and cut up some of the vegetables before placing them into the broth. She turned to face him, placing her hands on his chest. She felt his hands on the small of her back. She gave him a kiss and felt him return it. Out of nowhere, she heard a high pitched snicker.
"Owain, what are you doing?" Lissa laughed, turning to face her son.
"I got bored," he replied.
"Why's that?" Lissa asked.
"I dunno," he said, fiddling with his fingers.
"Well, I'm gonna get you!" She held up her hands, walking over to him.
Owain giggled as Lissa chased him around, and catching him. She began to tickle him, hearing his endless laughter. When Owain calmed down, and got himself together, Lissa held him close and looked over to Lon'qu. She saw him with a giant smile on his face; it had made her smile.
"Dinner's ready," Lon'qu said, grabbing some bowls.
"Go help your father," Lissa said, pushing Owain towards his father.
Owain nodded and held a bowl for Lon'qu to pour some stew in it. He carefully walked over to the table, sitting in his seat as he waited for his parents.
Lissa grabbed a bowl herself, allowed her husband pour the stew in it, and walked with him to the table. She sat down and ate her food as she listened to Owain talk about his day. What surprised her the most was that Lon'qu was a lot more talkative than normal. He didn't talk about any meetings he had with Basillio, or his training by himself, but he talked so happily about his day with his son. It felt heartwarming that he was talking so much, and so much about their son. For the first time she was the quiet one in the conversation. After dinner, Lissa cleaned up as Lon'qu got Owain to bed; he finally was sleep.
When she was done cleaning up, she went into her shared room with her husband. Lissa dressed down before getting into bed. It wasn't long until Lon'qu joined her with a mug of hot coco. She gladly accepted and chugged it as her husband changed.
"Are you feeling okay?" Lon'qu asked, shifting into bed. "You were very quiet at dinner tonight."
"Yes, I'm fine," Lissa replied, smiling as she placed her mug down.
"Are you sure?" He asked, positioning himself close to her.
"Yes, I'm sure," she reassured him. "I'm just happy."
"Really?" He said, holding her hand tightly.
"I am. You were more talkative than normal," she replied, interlocking her fingers with his. "It's nice to hear your voice."
"Oh," he softly sighed.
"I'm also just happy that you are affectionate with Owain," she added, moving her face close to his.
Lon'qu just smiled giving her a little kiss.
"Are you happy?" Lissa asked, returning the kiss.
"With you and Owain, always," he smiled, helping her lay down.
"I'm glad," she smiled, tugging him down.
She felt him cuddled with her before the both fell asleep.
