The place was dim now, though never quiet. The crew had been washed up on shore, ship on the tip of an island, all accounted for.
The ship, named “Duquesne” by the late captain, in one piece with the exception of a huge gash laying agape on its bottom.
The head of the group stared at the ruined art, damaged and unrepairable. Glances were exchanged across the crew’s men, all looking lost and defeated.
“What’re we gunna do, capt’m? Now we ain’t got a way da get home…” One of the men questioned. The captain furrowed his brows, unsure only momentarily, and responded, “I’m not certain that we’ll be able to repair the ship any time soon. In fact, I don’t think it’s possible. I’ll go examine it while the rest of you search for a place to sleep tonight. I trust you men are more than capable.”
“Yessir, les’ get goin’ crew. We can get the job dun’.”
“Excellent. Everyone except for you there.” The captain pointed to a certain member in the crowd.
“Yes, let’s be off,” they responded. The individual happened to be close friends with the captain for years past, very trusted and able. The pair headed towards the ship, finding an even bigger hole than expected.
“That’s no good,” the person to the captain’s right spoke up, “How should we handle this? Would looking for spared food be a good option? Or is there something else of higher priority?”
He sat for a moment, pondering over the questions, twirling a strand of hair around a gloved finger, “Sustenance is of utmost importance at the moment. The locker is undoubtedly destroyed considering the position of the destruction, but the barracks have a small supply if the crew weren’t famished.”
Making their way to the crew’s lodgement, they stepped over puddles of seawater and wooden beams.
Abruptly, a wave of the moss green ocean slapped the side of the ship. It wafted throughout the entire bottom of the vessel, throwing the two out and onto the firm, wet, grassy ground.
The crew hand was lying below the man, back facing the ground. The leader looked down at them, recovering from what happened, but seeming mesmerized by their appearance. Wet hair, clothes clinging to their body, slightly parted lips, and wide eyes.
“Captain…?” they said, attempting to catch his attention. He didn’t notice at first, but then regained his consciousness.
“Crew,” he muttered, gazing at their lips, “what is your name?”
They were a bit stunned by his question, not really seeing much individuality since joining the band of pirates, but answering nonetheless, “My name is Cassidy, do you have any other requests, Captain?”
“I would like to request two things, Cassidy. Call me Lucifer, and kiss me?” he asked, hopefulness ringing in his voice.
They were starting to make sense of past events. How he always knew what to do, why he was so educated, elegant, and irresistible. He was not only a captain, but the devil himself.
After a bit of thought and hesitation, they responded, “Yes, Lucifer…”
A smile made its way to the captain’s face as he leaned down, connecting their lips. His hand shifted to their waist before their eventual parting.
The pair were dusted pink at the cheeks, wondering if what just happened was right or even real.
“You’re a mysterious one indeed,” he began, “Educated, mannered, but outspoken. I’ve never met one of the type. You interest me, very profoundly. Hence, my next question; will you be mine?”
Once again, stunned and shocked they expressed their feelings for him, “I have always been envious of your elegance, intellect, and adamancy. I’ve also been very intrigued by you and your presence. Of course, I’ll have you.”
They both now shared the same grin of delight. A second after the words left their lips, they joined in a hug.
“What shall we do of the crew?” the one below asked.
“The crew doesn’t need the knowledge. Although, if it is your wish to do so, I won’t prevent you.”
“I believe their absence of knowledge would prove to be quite enjoyable. Let’s leave it this way.”
“Let’s,” he finished the conversation. The original plan came back to mind. The newfound duo raised to their feet, almost racing to the ship. Gathering the items they needed, they exited the craft.
When they arrived, the crew sat in a circle, preparing for the night ahead. The band would attempt to live there for the time being, as they were pirates and needed no one’s help.
The few years to come would be interesting for the entire crew, and they would continue to be all together. On the sea? No one knows, but the island would be their home for now.
