“Ah! Oh no, the wind was too strong!” He leans over the railings, trying to confirm that his bright red underwear is over at Wriothesley’s as if he didn’t throw it there himself. “How embarrassing… Would you be kind enough to pick it up while I make my way there to get it? Or would you come over instead?”
Wriothesley pauses a step when he notices the damp underwear in his balcony and processes Lyney’s words. A few seconds of silence. Lyney doesn’t miss the quick flicker of Wriothesley’s eyes towards him before looking back at the small piece of clothing. Doubt starts to crawl underneath Lyney’s skin – he shouldn’t feel embarrassed now, not when he also tossed some of his pride out the window the same moment he tossed his underwear to Wriothesley’s balcony.
Finally, Wriothesley resumes his steps and puts the cup of tea on the balcony table. “How clumsy of you, Mr. Lyney,” he bends down to pick up the damp bright red underwear with a pinch of his fingers before meeting Lyney’s watchful gaze. “You can come over to pick it up. I have enough tea prepared for two.”
