Chapter Text
Life wasn’t fair.
Izuku learned that the hard way at the age of four when he ‘diagnosed quirkless’ and he’s been reminded of it ever since. First when his dad left, then when he lost all his friends and lastly last weekend when his own mother left him. She said she would continue to pay rent monthly while also sending him enough money for groceries.
School wasn’t any better than his situation at home.
If anything, it was worse.
At least when he was home, he was alone, he could pretend the silence was peaceful. At school he never had any silence, whispers always passed when he walked by, laughter, teachers pretended like he didn’t even exist--like he wasn’t even there.
He was invisible, well almost, he was also being constantly watched. He tried not to care, he really did--but it was exhausting, so fucking exhausting.
Today had been the final straw.
Someone had not only lefts spider lily’s on his desk but they also written “why are you still alive?” in red marker. He stared at it for what felt like forever. Longer than he probably should’ve. He thought about wiping it off. He thought about moving on and pretending he hadn’t seen it. But instead he turned around and just walked away.
He didn’t even register the sound of laughter as he walked out the classroom, he just walked away.
The stairwell was cold and empty when he finally reached it. Each step he took felt heavier than the last, he was so tired—tired of hurting, tired of pretending everything was fine , tired of pretending he was okay, tired of just existing.
He had no one. No one cared about him. No one cares. He was just a Deku--a useless, unwanted Deku. What was the point of living anymore? The person who wrote on his desk was right, why was he still alive?
Maybe it’s for the better that he just-
His vision blurred with tears as he finally reached the top of the stairwell, opening the door fresh air hit his face, warm and soft, brushing through his messy green curls. He took another step. And another. Another. Until he was finally at the edge of the rooftop, he looked down.
The ground looked so far away, like a blur of concrete mixed with random dots of people on the sidewalk. His heart pounded in his chest, not with fear but with relief. Closing his eyes, he took that last step, no ground beneath his feet anymore. He felt weightless all of a sudden, then he felt alive. He felt like he was at peace, he hoped there would be peace once he was finally gone. What he didn’t expect was light along with the feeling of being yanked towards something.
The thing he could register something it was the exact opposite, it was dark and he was floating. Felt like some kind of void of never-ending darkness, was this what death felt like. He wondered if this is where he’ll be forever but then a voice speaks to him.
“I’m sorry! I saw you falling and I just had to use my quirk on you! I know you were going to kill yourself and I may not know what’s going on or what’s going to happen to you but I couldn’t just stand there and let that happen! My quirk allows me to send someone into the pass temporarily, I’m unsure how long you’ll be there. It could be days, weeks, years, I won’t even know where you’ll appear but please… convince someone to save your life! Convince them that you are from the future and to save you! When your time is up in the past you’ll appear in the same exact spot as when I hit you with my quirk. You’ll be falling, so you really have to make sure they understand how important it is that they’ll be there for you! Also don’t let them mess with your life before this incident, it’ll mess up the timeline! They can’t mess with a single thing about your life, they can’t interfere no matter how much they want to, otherwise they’ll forget you exist, and you’ll forget they exist and ugh--it’ll just mess up the timeline badly so make sure they understand!”
The voice sounded urgent, the words burned his ears. It was so loud, so fucking loud and it hurt. Izuku tried to process the stranger’s words, was he falling through time? Or--
Before he could even think about the quirk anymore the voice spoke up once more, this time in a less urgent tone and more soft.
“Please don’t let yourself die! You should live! You matter!”
Shouta huffed as Oboro and Hizashi walked him to school, He had been in the hero course for three whole months having been transferred in after the sports festival. The two were walking him back to the ward housing at UA since they had just went to a cat cafe, he was grateful for them really. They didn't care about his quirk, they didn’t automatically assume that his quirk was “villain like” - no they accepted him for him.
“Zashi look!” Oboro said with a wide grin, snapping the other boy out his thoughts. “Shou is smiling~” He teased.
“Am not,” Shouta huffed unable to hide the small twitch of a smile tugging across his lips. Hizashi opened his mouth to join in on the teasing—but before he could, a sudden flash of white light blinded all three of them in a heartbeat.
As their vision cleared, a small black void opened up above them—and then without warning, someone fell right through it. Instincts kicked in before thoughts and Shouta’s arms shot out in pure reflex catching the green-haired boy just before he hit the grounds The force of the fall, however was too much causing the black-haired teenager to stumble back, hitting the ground hard with the unfamiliar weight in his arms.
“What the fuck.” He mutters, his arms wrapped around the other boy’s weight as he looks up at his two friends. “What just happened?”
“Did he just fall out of thin air or well a portal?” Hizashi asked confusedly.
“Yep.” Oboro said, popping the ‘p’ at the end of his word, “We should get him to UA maybe? He's unconscious and might need recovery girl...”
Shouta looked down at the boy in his arms, his green hair stood out the most, and his eyes were shut as he let out soft little snores, there was some dry tears on his cheeks too. “Oboro, can you make a cloud to carry him? I mean he’s light but still, we don’t know if he’s hurt anywhere…”
Oboro nodded, activating his quirk, calling upon a cloud, he watched as Shouta stood up, placing the boy on the cloud and stepping away. “We should get him to UA fast. I don't know how long I can keep my quirk going since I used up all my energy during training earlier.”
