Work Text:
He pokes his boyfriend’s cheek with one finger. It is as soft as pudding, his skin perfectly supple to the touch.
Seungmin stares back at him with deadpan eyes, but the puppylike spark hidden behind them doesn’t disappear. Hyunjin can tell that the boy secretly likes it. Loves Hyunjin’s full attention on him and the feeling of the rest of the world fading into the distance.
It’s just them in bed, a little more affectionate than usual as bedtime approaches. Seungmin can’t even summon a proper frown at being prodded at because he’s too tired and Hyunjin might look a little too handsome close up while they share the younger man's queen-sized bed. He promptly closes his eyes, hoping to send the message to his boyfriend that he's about to turn in punctually.
It’s Sunday and tomorrow sees a packed solo schedule. That means he needs enough rest tonight, even though Hyunjin is here for a sleepover and the weight in his arms feels too precious to ignore.
“Cute,” he hears. It's less of a whisper and more of a breathless laugh that Hyunjin let's slip. Not that the man is trying to hide how much he loves his precious puppy boy.
Seungmin’s eyebrows do a funny wiggle and his lips twitch involuntarily at the compliment.
Hyunjin sees it all. They signal that Seungmin is trying to suppress a laugh just to not let Hyunjin tease him about it. It's kind of easy to read his boyfriend's actions now that he's so in tune with him.
And as much as Seungmin loves his partner's flirting, right now is ass-o-clock at night and Seungmin needs to get up early tomorrow for work, unlike a certain clingy boyfriend lying down beside him.
Hyunjin giggles cutely at the huff from his boyfriend.
“Stop it, I’m not cute. I’m hot,” Seungmin insists. He's only entertaining the guy because ignoring his cheek pokes now would just make it a lot harder to fend off an incoming tickle attack later. He speaks from experience.
“You’re both. You can’t convince me otherwise.” Hyunjin gets a shake of his head in response. His boyfriend seems unamused, and a sudden thought flashes into mind, unwilling to disappear. And Hyunjin, obviously being the no-filter one in the group, has to blurt it out, “Mochi cheeks.”
“What?” The comment makes Seungmin understandably confused and his face scrunches up as he cracks his eyes open. It's the first time he's heard this one.
“Mochi cheeks! So cute,” Hyunjin repeats eagerly. The description itself sends a small flutter in his chest. He doesn't try to fight off the smile that overtakes his handsome features.
“What are you saying? Let me sleep, Jinnie.” Seungmin almost lets out a soft chuckle at the ridiculous switch in the conversation. No way Hyunjin’s winning this nonsense not-really-a-debate talk, though.
“I wanna bite them,” Hyunjin adds, like it’s a normal statement to make while Seungmin's tired brain struggles to tame his boyfriend's train of thought.
“Don’t even think about it,” warns Seungmin. “Go find Baby Bread.”
“But I wanna kiss you now, Minnie.”
“No.”
“Pleaseee?”
“No.”
Hyunjin puts on his best I’m-really-sad-right-now-and-could-really-use-a-kiss face, all pouty and sparkly-eyed. “You’re gonna leave your boyfriend all sad and lonely?”
“Jinnie, stop acting like we didn’t make out before showering. It's been, what, an hour?”
“But kisses! I need my goodnight kisses!”
“Go find someone who’s not already halfway asleep. I’m sure Lixie’s still awake and ready to entertain you.” Oh how Seungmin loves sell out his housemates. But, it seems like he's not squirming out of this situation anytime soon.
“Minnieee. Please? You just look so adorable and kissable now.” His boyfriend is being extra clingy and he might just secretly live for this side of his man.
Seungmin sighs loudly, putting on a show of reluctantly cracking his eyes open once more. His voice is carefully controlled, almost nonchalant, as he says, “You and your princess privilege.”
“Pretty princess please?” Hyunjin says. It doesn't make sense to Seungmin, but their love never really functioned on logic most days.
He stalls for a beat, because there's a limit to how whipped he can be for Hyunjin (read: there really isn't), then says, “Fine." The sigh he lets out sounds anything but reluctant, to Seungmin's own disappointment. It's harder to act annoyed at his handsome boyfriend when he looks this soft and fluffy. Against better judgement, a little smile might have showed itself on Seungmin's face too.
Indeed, the gasp that follows is so exagerrated that Seungmin has the urge to roll his eyes. “Really?”
“Hurry up before I reconsider,” he says.
And Hyunjin does the most adorable little giggle while he sneaks closer to Seungmin’s face. They stay like that for a moment, nose-to-nose, and Seungmin’s heartbeat slows. It feels like time has frozen in place with Hyunjin's ocean eyes drinking him in.
Fuck. He’s so illegally good-looking, Seungmin curses.
And then he gets Hyunjin’s lips on his in a generous kiss. It's deep, and slow, and so achingly affectionate that Seungmin relaxes into it.
It feels like his life is complete again.
He almost sinks into the night with the warmth of Hyunjin’s hands on his nape and their mouths moving in synchronisation.
Almost, because Hyunjin nips at his bottom lip and the sting pulls him awake.
Seungmin pulls away, ready to whine about the sudden playfulness, but Hyunjin beats him to get the first word out. “Don’t fall asleep on me now! How unromantic.”
“Tch. Hyunnie, I need my beauty sleep, and you've had your kiss,” mumbles Seungmin.
“You’re already beautiful enough as is, stop trying to out-princess me.” Sneaky Hyunjin and his glib tongue.
“Jinnie, come on. I need to be up at 6 tomorrow.”
“I know. I just miss kissing you like this," Hyunjin confesses abruptly.
Seungmin feels his heart thump a little off-beat at that moment. He doesn't know what pushes him to say, “I do too.”
Yep, any sense of nonchalance is out the window.
“See? Then stay up with me. Just tonight?” Wow, once again, this boyfriend of his might be hiding a little genius behind his absentminded character.
“Jinnie…” Seungmin's voice dips to a serious tone. No matter how much he loves his boyfriend, Seungmin knows he cannot function on too little rest. It just throws his mind into chaos, and he can't have his work take the brunt of the damage. “I’ll kiss you good morning tomorrow, ok? Let’s try to sleep now.”
“Mm,” Hyunjin whines. It sounds childish and whiny, but when Hyunjin does aegyo out of affection, Seungmin can’t bring himself to hate it.
“I love you, baby. Let’s rest first, hm?” He pats the taller man’s long, black hair such that it falls back and reveals his handsome forehead. His boyfriend pouts somemore, but Seungmin knows how to solve that.
He guides the man nearer as his head goes in for a light peck on the forehead. “Night, love.”
And suddenly Hyunjin’s smiling all sweetly and shyly, the blush on his cheeks making him all the more adorable. His boyfriend knows exactly when to leverage his weakness against him and gosh, does Hyunjin love his soft forehead kisses.
“Good night, Minnie. I love you," he smiles.
“Love you too, baby,” Seungmin can't help but smile back.
