Work Text:
If Erin had known that morning that this day would bring so many catastrophes, you know, that so much would happen, so much would go wrong, she might have decided to stay in bed.
However, that day also brought something very surprising, something wonderful for her. Something, or rather someone. Somebody whose arms she was now lying in, in her bed. Someone whose clothes were scattered on the floor. Someone whose hand caressed her body tenderly and kissed her neck. And then kissed her naked shoulder.
“What are you thinking about?” his rough voice whispered close to her ear.
“About today. How a completely ordinary day, when everything seemed to go wrong, turned into something like this. This, you and me,” Erin explained. Somehow, she still couldn't believe it. Herself, naked, in her bed, in Anthony's arms. Anthony, who touched her lovingly. Who had given her that unbelievable fantastic orgasm. Anthony, who had made her feel special. Anthony, who was her best friend. And now also the man with whom she had shared her bed.
"Any second thoughts?" he asked cautiously. He was a little afraid to hear the answer. What they had done was not something that had just happened. At least, he had suppressed his feelings for a long time, if he was completely honest. But Erin, he wasn't sure.
That morning, Erin woke up before her alarm clock rang. At least, that's what she thought until she reached for her phone. The battery was dead. She had forgotten to charge it the night before. Damn. How could she have forgotten? She knew how. After yesterday's victory in court, it had gotten late and she just wanted to go to bed. And she forgot everything else. She forgot to charge her phone.
A glance at the watch she had placed on her bedside table the night before quickly told her the correct time. It was much too late. She had overslept. For the first time ever.
"Oh shit", Erin was suddenly wide awake. She sat up in bed and swung her feet out of bed. She knew she didn't have time to shower or eat breakfast if she wanted to get to the office at a reasonably punctual time. She had to hurry.
In her haste, however, she overlooked the chair next to her bed. And bumped her toe against it.
“Ouch. . . Damn it. Shit!” she cursed as the pain shot through her. Her gaze slid down to her foot. It immediately turned red. Hopefully her toe wasn't broken — but Erin didn't have time for that. She was already running late. She didn't have time to take care of her toe. That would have to wait until tonight. And maybe by then she would feel better—the pain gone, along with the redness and swelling.
She quickly grabbed the first clothes she could find — the tight black pencil skirt, a white blouse, high heels. The clothes she had worn yesterday—in court. Not exactly the everyday outfit for a normal day at the office, which she would spend doing paperwork, but she didn't have time to pick out the perfect outfit for the day. Get a pair of pants out of the closet and a simple blouse.
Erin hastily tied her hair into a ponytail – a critical glance in the mirror assured her that no one would really notice that she hadn't washed her hair this morning.
“It'll be fine,” she muttered, partly to convince herself. And since she would be spending the whole day alone at her desk anyway, no one would really notice. The first thing she would do when she got home would be to take a shower. And wash her hair.
Grabbing her purse, she hurried to the door. On her way to the office, she would get her coffee and maybe a blueberry muffin. There was a Starbucks near the DA's office, where Erin quickly went in. She really had to hurry, but she couldn't and wouldn't skip her coffee.
“Tall Caffe Mocha, for Erin,” she ordered, “Oh, and a blueberry muffin.”
While waiting for her order, Erin kept looking impatiently at her watch. Time was running out. It was getting later and later. Maybe she shouldn't have come here and ordered coffee after all. Maybe she should have skipped her morning coffee and drunk the stuff at the office that wasn't even worthy of being called coffee. Or maybe she should have gone out again later and gotten breakfast.
“Erin, tall caffè mocha,” she finally heard the words she had been waiting for. She hurriedly grabbed the cup of coffee and turned around.
Unfortunately, Erin hadn't made sure the lid was properly on the cup. The next moment, she bumped into someone and the hot coffee spilled out of the cup and directly onto her white blouse. “Oh damn, can't you watch where you're going?” However, when Erin looked up, she couldn't make out who had bumped into her.
Erin sighed. The day had been a complete disaster so far.
And now there was a huge coffee stain on her blouse. She wouldn't have time to go home and change, but luckily she had a spare blouse at the office. She threw the half-empty coffee cup in the trash and made her way to the DA's office. She no longer felt like having a cup of coffee. Not when half of it was on her blouse.
She hoped that if she hurried, no one would notice the state she was in when she arrived. In particular, the large coffee stain on her blouse.
When the elevator doors finally opened, Erin hurried into her office, clutching her handbag to her chest in a desperate attempt to hide the coffee stain.
Fortunately, she managed to get to her office almost unnoticed, with only a young clerk looking up as Erin hurried down the hallway from the elevator to her office and then hastily closed the door behind her.
She carelessly dropped her purses on the chair in front of her desk and began to unbutton her blouse. Erin wanted to change quickly and then finally get to work. She couldn't waste any more time. The day had already cost her enough time. And she would get another coffee, or water, at least that wouldn't stain her blouse.
Erin was just about to reach for the clean blouse when the door to her office flew open. “Erin, did you...” she heard Anthony's voice. Erin looked up and saw the surprised face of the DA's investigator, her best friend. Anthony. For a moment, neither of them knew how to react in this situation.
She just stood there, wearing only a bra, her hand reaching for the blouse on the desk. While Anthony just stood there, looking at her. He was staring at Erin, who was half-dressed. His gaze fixed on the white lace of her bra covering her breasts. It was like he was magically drawn to it. He couldn't help but look at her. Just stare at her. She was beautiful. Truly. Simply beautiful.
Anthony felt something rise up inside him at the sight. Something he had felt many times before. Whenever he saw Erin. Something he had suppressed until now. And something he had to suppress now, too. Actually.
For a moment, time stood still. Only the sound of their breathing filled the room. And then, a noise outside the room snapped them out of their trance. Erin quickly grabbed her blouse, while Anthony spun around. She thought she heard something like a mumbled apology. Something that sounded like he said that he should have knocked.
“You can turn around now,” Erin said, her voice still trembling slightly. She had just finished buttoning up her blouse.
She couldn't believe what had just happened. Could the day get any worse? Erin was more than embarrassed. What if someone had come in at that moment? What if someone had seen the way Anthony had looked at her? Yes, Erin had noticed it in his gaze. It was the one thing she didn't want to think about. How he had looked at her.
Erin wasn't sure when someone had ever looked at her like that. Jack certainly never had. Looked at her like that. Like Anthony had. A look full of desire, longing.
“I, well, I...” Anthony was at a loss for words. His thoughts were still on what had just happened. What he had just seen. Erin looked at him questioningly, waiting for him to continue.
But Anthony didn't say a word at first. Then he shook his head: “It's not that important,” and left her alone with her thoughts.
For a moment, Erin stared at her closed office door, through which Anthony had just disappeared. What was that? She didn't know the answer. She didn't want to know.
In the end, she picked up the files on her desk. The work wouldn't do itself. Daydreaming wouldn't help her get through the files.
The work would distract her from her thoughts. Her thoughts of Anthony.
While working, Erin not only forgot the time, but was also able to push her encounter with Anthony out of her mind. Yet when he entered her office again in the afternoon, not without knocking first, the memories returned. The memory of that morning. When he had seen her like that. Wearing only a bra. And for a moment, Erin thought she saw that look in his eyes again, the one she had seen earlier. That look. The way he had looked at her.
“Have you eaten anything today?” he asked.
“Um, just the blueberry muffin this morning,” Erin admitted. She had simply lost track of time. And when she worked, she blocked out everything else. All thoughts. And feelings.
“How about we go outside and grab a sandwich? Get some fresh air,” he suggested.
Erin nodded. Yes. Fresh air would do her good. Just getting out of the stuffy office. Even if only for half an hour. She couldn’t afford to take a longer break.
As she stood up and shifted her weight to her right foot, a sharp pain shot through her, causing her to fall back into her chair.
“Are you okay?” Anthony asked when he saw Erin's pain-contorted face.
“Yes, I just stubbed my toe this morning, and wearing high heels all day didn't exactly help,” she explained.
“Let me see,” and as he spoke, he had already walked around her desk and crouched down in front of her chair.
“Anthony...” Erin began as he reached for her ankle and slipped her right shoe off her foot.
Anthony gently ran his fingertips over Erin's foot. She gasped sharply as his fingers brushed over her toe.
“Does it hurt a lot?” he asked, looking at her with concern.
“I...” Erin knew it hadn’t been good for her toe to be confined in that tight shoe all day. Her words trailed off. She enjoyed the sensation of Anthony’s fingers on her skin, for he had begun, almost absentmindedly, to caress her foot tenderly, moving up to her ankle and then back down again. Very slowly. A caress that repeated itself over and over again. Each time a little higher. His fingers slid further, exploring the sensitive areas of her foot and arousing a feeling of excitement in Erin.
“Anthony,” his name was almost a sigh on her lips. A mix between a sigh and a moan.
“Shh,” he admonished her and continued his ministrations. His fingers were now wandering over her lower leg. His touch was so gentle that Erin thought she was just imagining it.
“Please.” Erin wasn't sure what she was asking for. But the feeling that this touch triggered in her—she let it happen. Finally.
Anthony knew he was playing with fire, but ever since he had seen her in her white lace bra today, he was ready to burn. When he had touched Erin's foot, just to look at her injury, he hadn't been able to stop touching her, hadn't wanted to stop. And if this was the only time he could touch Erin like this, then . . .- and without thinking he reached for Erin.
Erin met him halfway. It was as if she was being drawn by an unknown force. As if he was drawing her in. And that's exactly what he did. Erin couldn't resist him. She couldn't resist the moment.
At first, their lips brushed, once, twice - before the dam broke and their mouths met in a kiss, something soft and desperate. And it felt so utterly right that it stole her breath.
"What are we doing?" It was actually just a rhetorical question.
“I think you know exactly what that is. Or rather, what it was. Otherwise, I must have done something wrong,” said Anthony with a mischievous smile before kissing her again.
If he only had this one chance, this one moment, then he wanted to make the most of it. He wanted to create a memory that no one could take away from him.
"No." Erin didn't regret anything they had done. Not the kiss in her office. And not the sex either. Although that had been much more than just sex. So much more.
"Ok", Anthony kissed her on the shoulder.
"Only that, well, I still can't believe it. You and me. In my bed. My bedroom. Naked."
“I know,” he said, planting another kiss on her shoulder.
“Anthony, I should—”
“Just relax and enjoy yourself,” he whispered in her ear, and before she knew it, Erin found herself lying on her back. Anthony leaned over her and captured her lips in a tender kiss. A kiss—that's exactly how it had started in her office. After he touched her foot, caressing it. That touch had almost driven her crazy. But only almost.
Erin had been able to think clearly enough that they had at least made it to her apartment before giving free rein to all their pent-up feelings. After all, she wasn't like her brother.
And now, now she was lying here in her bed, beneath Anthony, allowing him to touch her like that a second time. Kissing her. Exploring her body again. With his hands and his mouth. As if he wanted to memorize exactly how her skin felt under his fingertips, how it tasted.
And she didn't want him to stop. Not now. And not later either. Not if she was honest with herself. She wanted Anthony. More than she had ever wanted anything in her life. And until now, she hadn't realized it.
That he was so much more than her best friend.
Sometimes it took these not-so-ordinary days to realize who or what you really wanted.
