As the others crowded around them, accusing glares laser-sharp, trained on Lukas, Jesse fought for words.
There was a million things he could’ve said, a million reasons why, duh, Lukas is not the White Pumpkin, and they’re out of their damn minds for even thinking something so outrageous.
He didn’t push the button! He had no time to set up those traps, we just got here when Torquedawg got killed! Creators, people, it’s Lukas!
He got stuck on that last thought. It looped in his brain like a broken disc, burning on the tip of his tongue. He faltered as Lukas looked back at him with those starry blue eyes, and his mouth went dry, a lump forming in his throat.
He begged himself to come up with a response, a plea, anything that would stop Lukas being pulled away from him.
It’s Lukas.
He didn’t know why, but the very thought tore at his heart.
