"What I do when I leave the ship," Garrus said, in the most measured tone he could manage, which was not very managed, "is none of your fucking business. I am a gun, waiting for you to tell me where to fire. If you want to leave me in the holster, then I have to do something to blow off steam."
"That’s exactly the problem. You aren’t a thing, Garrus. There’s supposed to be a brain in that thick fucking skull of yours, and I expect you to use it, on the field or off it.” He wasn't a biotic, but the air around him still crackled with electricity. Garrus couldn't look away. "Until then, I'm not taking you anywhere. For fuck’s sake. I can’t do everything around here."
Shepard turned sharply, but Garrus grabbed his shoulder. Shepard stiffened. Garrus nearly released him—except for the way Shepard's breath caught in his throat, dissolving the armor he cultivated so carefully.
Shepard saw him noticing, too. His eyes narrowed again, and he slapped Garrus's hand away. "Touch me again," he said, his voice deadly, "and I'll introduce you to the wrong side of an airlock. Got it, Vakarian?"
Garrus retreated, leaning against the wall. He had a lot to think about but was far, far too horny to do anything about it.
