There was a reason why Kagome took over handling and overseeing their financial accounts, investments, and general capital nearly three centuries ago. The advent of reliable postal service, trains, easier international commerce and passages, and finally commercial flight and travel made it all a necessity.
Nearly five centuries later and Sesshomaru still never failed to leave her speechless.
"My love, why did you purchase a new lawn mower with landscaping attachments?" Kagome asked from behind her laptop as she look inventory of this month's expenses. Her nails tapping n the seat rest the only indicator that she was getting annoyed. She was seated on a love chair in their living room while Sesshomaru was focused on his ipad. The noises of the long forgotten movie they were watching were the only accompanying sounds
"I figured that we could use it for the ancestral estate." Came the blase reply.
"Mate, when do you intend to deliver your purchase and stay at said estate? We spend most of the year here - in Tokyo." Kagome's testy voice continued, "have you forgotten that we just replaced all of their landscaping equipment?"
"Mate," Sesshomaru's now flippant voice chiming in, "we can always use a backup."
Kagome pinched the bridge of her nose, "Sesshomaru, we cannot buy another storage shed for that property to continue storing items that we don't use or need."
An indignant huff, "you say it as if I only make superfluous purchases."
Kagome didn't know if this was a demon thing or specifically Sesshomaru and his family thing. It seemed like all the inuyoukai that Kagome knew all developed a hoarding issue. Kimi, while she still lived in her castle in the sky, hidden by glamour - kept a few houses for the sake of collecting items. And Kagome knew that every year or so, Kimi would change the interior of her castle, and such a transition usually required acquiring new and priceless artifacts, and digging into those storage houses.
Kagome had also observed Inuyasha's behavior. Koga throughout the centuries lamenting that he kept on finding many of Inuyasha's acquired things like a dog finding a place to hide their bone.
And finally, her own mate.
"Sesshomaru, can you remind me why you purchased Davinci's Leda and the Swan?"
He looked at her unimpressed, "we discussed it when I purchased it, it would fit with the interior of our villa in Florence, and one day prove to be a priceless artifact."
"How often do we go to our villa in Florence to view all of the beautiful Italian style works that you- we've accumulated, not to mention why haven't tried to 'find' the Leda Swan painting if it's a priceless artifact?"
"The painting is considered lost, therefore it is priceless to ourselves and the pack. Why should we share?"
All of them, all of these infuriating inuyoukai guarded their hordes like dragons.
And she knew that Sesshomaru loved to play her like a fiddle, he would purposely purchase items for himself and sneak in one or two for her to playoff his spending.
Infuriating.
He airily continued, "besides mate, what is the fun of having worked and acquired our little nest egg if we can't enjoy the fruits of our labor. Besides, you act as if I buy anything at full price. Even the Davinci, I got it for a steal. Why pay full price when you can always get something on sale?"
"Sesshomaru," her voice a slight warning, "it's not about enjoyment, it's about spending it wisely and not continue having to build whole storage lots for all of the things you all acquire. Koga and I are tired of keeping up with things."
He smiled at her - teasingly, his voice almost taking on a song-like quality, "we wouldn't have to build storage facilities, if you simply follow my idea."
:"Sessho, we are not buying multiple homes across the globe to have themed houses for each region."
"It's okay, I'll wear you down soon."
Spoiled, entitled, snarky youkai. If it weren't for her, his spending would truly be out of control.
They continued to work in silence until a happy hum interrupted individual thoughts and muses, "Koi, Lululemon is having a sale, would you like me to purchase anything for you?"
Okay so, she did need new leggings and Sesshomaru was the best at finding sales.
And, maybe his spending wasn't entirely his fault.
She did like to indulge him now and again.
"Can you check for the running shorts and align leggings?"
