Wait for Me

Summary:

A poem about life, death, and living.

(Bandom Fluff Fest '25 - Day 03: “Wait for me”)

Notes:

This one’s a bit more experimental, but I hope you enjoy it!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

There was a void.

I have filled it.

The gaping maw of

The universe snatched me up,

Jaws of death with

No acid on its tongue

Nor saliva in its stomach.

There is nothing here to rot me,

So I am alive.

But I do not live.

Living is waking up

On the right side of my brain, and the

Center of my bed.

Blankets could never replace the

Warmth of a lazy arm. The

Dark side of the pillow can’t mimic the

Chill of fresh hands.

I stand alone, in clear skies of

Icy blue, crackling with

Lightning, in fields of

Roses and wheat,

Surrounded by forests I can never reach.

I can’t run fast enough to get to them in

Time.

Time is all I have, and

Yet

There is no sun.

The sky is bright.

Night never comes.

If I squint, there is

Dusky darkness.

If I close my eyes, the

Insomniac’s gamble begins.

I always end up awake.

There are strange things to be

Miss here. Eating is a necessary luxury,

It seems. You don’t realize water has

Taste until you grieve the feeling of

Ice on your tongue.

Next time we meet,

Get me a hot dog from

Fourth street, and make sure you

Remember my coffee order.

I’ll need my energy, just as you need to

Rest.

Don’t stress over me.

I know it’s hard for the

Both of you, but

I assure you, I am content.

(Pay no attention to my flawless skin,

My manicured hair,

My balanced smile,

My steady heartbeat.)

I’m not running anymore.

Not from anything, not from

Anyone.

(Pretend you don’t know I miss

The thrill of the chase,

The story behind every bruise,

Even the lies sewn with

Sparks of gold.)

I am in stasis, but

Life moves very fast, so

Wait for me, my

Moon and Star. Easy stargazing is

Coming your way.

Don’t worry,

I’ll be home in a flash.
