Summary
Every morning, when Chuuya wakes, he finds himself greeted by the familiar amber eyes of Dazai—always watching, always there. Though Dazai is a light sleeper, this silent vigil has become a quiet comfort, a reassurance that Chuuya isn’t alone, hasn’t been abandoned again. With a small, hopeful smile, Chuuya presses a kiss to those eyes, determined not to let dark thoughts spoil the fragile peace they’ve built lately.
Yet beneath that calm surface, Chuuya harbours a deep fear: Dazai’s reckless flirtation with death, his suicidal tendencies, leave Chuuya haunted by the possibility of losing him. So, through Ranpo’s insistent boasting about Edgar Allan Poe’s literary genius, Chuuya hires Poe to write novels imagining Dazai’s life after death—a strange, bittersweet attempt to cope. It’s not the healthiest method, but it’s the one he clings to, a way to keep Dazai alive in words, even if only on paper.
