A Ghost Crew Breakfast

Summary:

Kallus knew the Ghost Crew had quite a wide variety of skills amongst them, however cooking was not one of them

Notes:

Based off of the antics before our Rebels cosplay shoot.

Work Text:

Kallus watched from the side lines. The life as a Rabel still so new, so different. There was zero order here and yet…. Zeb was laughing at Hera’s finds for cooking utensils, happy enough to break and mix the Eggs she was able to procure, teasing her at his scrunched nose at the mention of adding “green things”(veggies) into the scrambled eggs.

Sabine and Ezra stood off to one side chatting about non war related things, some small talk about new armor that was coming out and how Sabine could paint the new Helms if Ezra got his hands on them.  Kanan stepped in momentarily and was quickly shoved away by Zeb, Hera stepping in to make the pancakes. Kanan laughed with a “is that a good idea” and getting a death glare from Hera.

He was not used to just sitting back, to …..relax… this entire interaction was much less of a militant operation that had thwarted the great Grand Admiral Thrawn or even Dath Vader himself multiple times but they were…. Family.

Something Kallus had once had a small taste of in his childhood, that nostalgia gripping at his heart. Seeing Zeb get distracted chatting with Kanan about new specs and possibilities with a new raid he found his chance. He slipped in next to Hera and started with the bacon.

Hera gave a smile and joked lightly about the Empire and if he could even cook. Something he wrinkled his nose at. “Everyone needs to learn to cook for themselves!”

To which Hera Laughed “Well this won’t be anything fancy.”

And it really wasn’t. Not enough pans for cooking Hera had reverted to using a cookie sheet for the pancakes across two burners, Kallus on the pan with the bacon and Zeb…. Well he had completely forgotten about his eggs cooking in the over while he was talking at length about something with Kanan.

Zeb’s attention diverted to teasing a whining Ezra who was asking when everything would be ready ‘he was so hungry!’  Hera herself had been distracted trying to wash a few dishes and do a prelim cleaning she had left the pancakes unattended. At Ezra and Zeb’s banter she turned back and winced as she turned one of the pancakes.

“Here, you’re hungry? Have this one” Hera offered out the first pancake… burnt and black on one side, the other half cooked looking like some toddler had put it together.

Ezra wrinkled up his nose “What?! No way! Give it to Zeb! He’ll eat it!”

“I will not!!” Zeb growled flashing fangs at Ezra.

“I’ve seen what you eat man… you’ll-“ Ezra started

“I’ll take it.” Kallus’s voice broke through the waves of fusses to clear the air and still the waters for a moment. Zeb’s ear twitched, Ezra and Sabine wore the same expression, looking to Kallus as if he had two heads. Hera’s look was of surprise.

Calmly Kallus repeated “I said I’ll take it, rather hungry.”

Hera shook her head with a swish of her Leku and put it onto a plate “then the first one is yours.”

Zeb was the loudest about how Kallus cooked the bacon, he apparently liked it crispy, but got equal flack when Zeb’s egg omelet cooked in the oven barely came off the bottom of the pan and were, for Kanan’s taste, ‘too salty’.

Ezra grabbed the syrup out from under Zeb’s hand getting a growl and he simply laughed “Too slow!!” He teased the Lasat.

The Syrup yanked from Ezra’s hands by Kanan and the man gave a wicked smirk “you need to train more.”

Being the only one keeping a real eye out, only Kallus was aware of the stray Loth-cat that had snuck in and deftly grabbed some bacon off the plate, flicking her tail pleased and escaping well before being caught by the Ghost crew. Desdra, he would call her. A tawny gold loth cat with chocolate and black stripes he had seen about the tower often.

“Well, so how is it?”

The question pulled Kallus back to the others at the table. Skewered on his fork was a neatly and precisely cut piece of the burnt pancake. He blinked as the question from Ezra seeped in. “Charcoaled with notes of vanilla and cinnamon.” He spoke rather deadpan.

Zeb was the first to start laughing, the others joining in.

So this was breakfast with the Ghost crew.
