Work Text:
madeline was exhausted.
she stumbled into her dressing room after her final show of the week, she did not want to see anyone right now. just take off her makeup and get into something comfortable. she burst into her dressing room and was greeted by her assistant, stefan, stood by her desk organising everything.
“madeline! that was a wonderful show. they went CRAZY for you.”
he knew how to work with madeline’s moods. it was obvious how painfully tired she was, so he wasn’t too affected by the attitude she’d give him today.
“thanks stefan, i am incredibly exhausted so if you don’t mind i’m going to sit here and wipe my face clean, whilst you go and get my comfortable clothes.”
stefan didn’t want to oppose but it appeared she forgot that she has a visitor. a visitor he knew she wouldn’t want to miss. he approached her unzipping her dress for her so she could easily slide out of it.
“yeah that’s fine but remember you have a visitor?”
a spark lit in madeline’s eyes. she just nodded her head and headed back to where she gets changed. stefan just assumed she was getting changed into her blouse and jeans (not very madeline but after a long day it’s all she could be bothered with) so he left her to it. whilst madeline was still getting changed there was a knock at the door, stefan answering it promptly.
“stefan!! it’s been too long. how are you?”
”hiii helen… i’m doing AMAZING. how are you?.”
“well… im engaged now! i need to find the right time to tell mad, you know what she’s like.”
“oh no whatever could you mean. being madeline’s assistant is the DREAM!”
silence lingered for approximately 5 seconds before stefan dropped into a low whisper.
“take me with you.”
helen had to laugh. she can’t begin to imagine all the absurd things madeline had got this poor man doing.
“oh stefan i know she can be a little difficult at times bu-“
before she could even continue defending her friend, in she burst. she was wearing pink lingerie with a sheer robe like it was covering anything at all. stefan thought to himself why she would get changed into lingerie to see her old friend but it’s madeline, it’s best to not ask.
“i thought i heard your voice, i've missed you” madeline began to approach helen whilst toying with the hem of her robe, not breaking eye contact for a second. she closed the gap between them by touching the end of helen’s hair. “you’ve cut your hair, i like it.” helen’s breath hitched slightly at madeline’s touch on her hair, a touch she hasn’t felt like that for 10 years. the redhead quickly gained her composure, she couldn’t let madeline know how much she affected her.
“i’ve missed you too madeline. it was an incredible show, you looke- you look beautiful.” eye contact still not broken.
the moment was interrupted when madeline heard scurrying behind her. she slowly turned her back to see stefan rushing to leave the room, without saying a word, just a raised eyebrow - she got his answer.
”i don’t want to stand here and watch whilst you two … make out.”
madeline went slightly red at the remark but hoped it wasn’t noticeable, atleast her back was to helen. she shooed him out of the room, unable to muster up a response to the statement he just hurled at her. when they heard the door shut, the blonde turned back around to helen and let out a dramatic laugh with a shrug in full madeline ashton style.
the actress makes her way over to the sofa in the middle of the room before patting down next to her.
“come. sit.”
of course helen obliged. she always did.
the two women just sat in silence, looking at each other. both taking in the moment of being back together, back together properly.
one of them needed to break the silence at some point and helen decided it needed to be her. her eyes turned dark as she shifted closer to madeline.
“hey mad…” she moved her hand over to madeline’s thigh, forgetting it was bare as the robe had slid over. “yes my helly.” the nickname made helens stomach twist. she hasn’t heard it said like that since college, since they were always wrapped up in each others arms. in a platonic way of course. madeline wasn’t gay. helen wasn’t gay. she suddenly became aware of how long she was silent for. the older woman leaned over to her friends ear before quietly speaking the words “what would you do to me.” madeline shot back. her eyes wide in shock.
helens hand still firmly on her thigh, they locked eyes again - just as helen let out a laugh. “madeline oh my god, i meant like. aesthetically. you’re always throwing digs at me i was giving you an open window.”
mad also let out a laugh. “oh i knew that, i was just …. thinking!”
the blondes eyes linger over helens body. maybe for a little too long but who’s to say. she has no idea how long she was staring for, or that she was even staring until she heard helen again.
“what’s the verdict then?” helens voice was sharp and seductive. madeline had to come up with something. quickly.
“just one tip. try shopping at forever 21… not forever 61.” by now she was stood up, wandering around the room, trying to cool off whatever the fuck she was feeling. she was confused. helen also stood up and walked around the couch to meet her in the middle. madeline could have easily walked around her to continue her pacing, but something about helen had her stuck.
“really mad… if you had your way with me.”
this set madeline off, she didn’t like being confused and that angered her. she grabbed helens shoulders and pushed her against the wall, eliciting a moan from the woman, as the blondes thigh slipped between hers. madeline just raised her eyebrow with a smirk, a signature face. helen spun them around so it was now mad against the wall.
“that was not because of whatever you just thought you did. it’s this vein on my leg, i think i stressed it out doing squats. feel it maddie.”
without thinking… she grabbed madelines hands and placed it just below her ass. making sure to tighten her grip. madelines face was suddenly bright red. she couldn’t find any words to say, nothing would come out of her mouth. then helen reverted back to innocent self, mads hand still resting on her.
they heard the door open and the two women have never moved quicker, madeline ran to the mirror and helen sat back on the sofa. both women trying to act as normal as the other. stefan walked in, full confidence. until he looked at madeline. he knew he shouldn’t have left them alone, everyone knows they’re either going to kill each other or… the other thing. the killing each other was the only thing that was really featured in the tabloids. their relationship was really only spoke about on twitter, by the delusional lesbians.
the tension in the air could be cut with a knife. helen looks at stefan and summons him to sit next to her.
“hey stefan, i know you’re always in madelines house. what does she sound like in bed. i hear all this talk of her being a huge slut but i’ve never actually heard her make an uh uh wow.”
before stefan could even answer, madeline walks over completely unaffected. she sits between them, a wide smile sat on her face.
”oh hel if you really wanted to know you’d try harder.” it was a comeback madeline would say to anyone so nobody thought anything of it.
“i am.”
it caught everyone off guard. especially helen. but yet again, they all pretended like it didn’t happen.
“so mad i actually need to talk to you, i have someone i want you to meet so when would be good for you?” helens voice was slightly shaky, it’s good she finally remembered to tell madeline, even after whatever just happened.
“yeah what is it helen.” it was more of a demand than a question, she was back to normal.
“i’m engaged. and i want you to meet him, his names ernest menv- dr ernest menville.” helens heart was in her fucking chest, she’s glad stefan here so she had a witness incase madeline went violent. it used to happen more than you’d think.
“oh my GOD!! helly you’re going to be a bride, i HAVE to meet him. dinner at my place this saturday? 7:30?”
helen and stefan shared a mutually confused look before helen reluctantly agreed.
what the hell what madeline ashton up to this time.
