Madeline and Helen never made sense to anyone that wasn't close to them, they were a package deal for a long time, but they just didn’t make sense as friends or anything really. Madelie loves the attention, she loved to be perceived and adored, meanwhile Helen didn’t really like to stand out, she loved being left alone to read and to her own thoughts, she didn’t like parties or the beach, she liked picnics with Madeline and her family dog. Madeline was always surrounded by people, always invited to every event there was.

She had a date with Ernest, their first date but all she could do was remember Madeline, she missed her scent, her overly sweet perfumes, the way she'd be most of the time chewing strawberry gum and how her breath smelled and tasted like artificial strawberry. Helen never was a gum kind girl but every once in a while whenever she felt her chest tightening missing the blonde she'd buy a pack of strawberry gum.
It didn't help.

The line cuts before she can finish her sentence or respond, and she’s stood blinking at the door. Not exactly rude, just… abrupt. Helen makes her way upstairs, forming an opinion of Madeline which, so far, leans to the unflattering. Brisk, overly assertive, probably a nightmare to have a balanced conversation with.
