"Come onnnn, just one kiss!" You giggle, your boyfriend pressing his hand on your chest to keep you away.
This is a game you enjoy playing, where you chase him around like some clingy puppy just for him to dodge it. At the start, he got tired rather quickly, but with time he has learned that it’s just a part of who you are, as frustratingly (cute) he found it.
"I told you, no." "Why?" "What do you mean why? I already said it before."
He is staring at you no differently of how he would at a misbehaving cat— but again, he knows better than anyone you won't stop until you get an answer, so with a sigh, he speaks again.
"I don't like it."
"Why?"
"Because it’s annoying."
"Why?"
"Because you smother me."
"Why?"
"Are you going to ask the same thing over and over?"
You hum in response. "Uh-huh. I don't buy your excuses." The words fall effortlessly from your mouth, filled of that stubborn fondness he never quite knows how to return.
"A better question is why would you willingly let anyone touch you." He replies, a bit sharper this time. You don't back down though.
"Why wouldn't I?" His hand moves from your chest to hover at the side of your neck, his fingers barely grazing the skin. "I could easily snap your neck in half right now. You are giving me full access to do it."
"Yeah but you won't really do it."
"You can't be sure of that."
"Oh, I can and am. Completely."
"Then you are more naive than I give you credit for."
"It’s actually called trust."
You lean into his touch to prove your point, just enough to feel the coolness of his palm and the softness of his touch, your eyes still sparkling with familiar playfulness and affection. But he is quick to pull away, crossing his arms defensively.
"What happened with the whole 'snapping my neck in half' thing, hmm?" You tease him. He scoffs.
"I may change my mind if you keep pushing your luck." But his tone is lighthearted at best and you know it. You know him way too well, to the point it almost makes him feel pathetic. Almost.
So, to be fair, when you reached again, you expected him to move away as always. It was the dynamic between you two, pull and push. However, while he was still reflecting on the lingering touch from his fingers, your lips were already on his cheek.
It felt right, so natural that you don't even realize the issue until you see his face, mouth half-open in shock. You stay still, waiting but not really sure of what— for him to snap? To turn around and run away?
Finally, his shock settles in and he pulls his hat down in a sharp tug, enough to hide whatever expression he is making. But his hair shifts with the action, revealing only the tip of his ears that are now a shade darker... could it be—?
"Are you blushing?!" You blurt out, eyes coming back to joy. You weren’t even sure that was possible! Except he, on the other hand, doesn’t take it as well, hat falling back again to reveal his face.
"HAH? Of course I'm not! You are hallucinating things now?" Yet you can see it clearly already. He may speak all he wants, but the warm pink on his cheeks doesn’t know how to lie. Not to you at least.
"Yeah, I sure do." You tease.
"You ARE."
"Mhm, that's what I said."
"Then stop it with the smug tone!"
"I have no idea what you are talking about. Maybe you are the one hallucinating after all."
He turns to glare at you, eyes squinted, pupils dilated. He sure can be adorable sometimes.
"I— UGH! You are impossible." Giving up on words, he storms out of the room, closing the door loud enough for it to echo through the halls.
And yet, his hand presses on the place you kissed him as he walks, holding onto the ghost of your lips
