Luck be a lady

Summary:

Misaki always considered herself unlucky. But if she had a little luck, she was sure that this luck was the reason she was able to meet Jun Sahara.

Notes:

I have no idea where I'm going with this, so please, pardon me. I hope you enjoy wherever this will go? I didn't plan to make more than one chapter of this, but my writing had other plans. This was actually supposed to be just a Jun/Misaki thing, but then, Yakumo happened.
Inui is not in this first chapter, but he definitely will be involved later.

Chapter Text

The first time they met, Jun’s chainsaws were roaring in front of her face and Misaki was certain that she was going to die.

It was not hard for Misaki to know that she was unlucky. It certainly was not luck that had bring her to this island. And it was certainly not luck that continue to make rain fall on her day, small miseries flowing on to her one after another, continuing to fall on her, despite all her efforts to make it stop. If one day, Misaki decided to put an alarm on her phone to wake her up on time for work, surely that was the day that her phone mysteriously decided to die in the middle of the night for no reasons. If she tried to buy an alarm clock, than surely it would just happen that a blackout in the middle of the night decided to deactivate it. And surely, if she decided to take a short-cut to arrive on time at her job, it would be the day that a small thug decided to pass by the same alley and tried to threaten her, making Misaki even more late than she already was.
Sometimes, she taught that the concept of fortune was just playing tricks on her. But why would it? She was not anyone important. So why the universe was so abundant on making her life miserable? Well, to that, Misaki could not find an explanation.

But before that incident, she never had to fear for her life that much.

Sure, Misaki was unlucky. And sure, the universe took a certain sadistic pleasure in putting her in situation where her life was in danger.
But as she was facing the blades of a roaring engine, somehow she knew that this was different.

This was not about luck or about her anymore.
Because with this incident arrived into her unlucky life, like a ray of sunshine into a clouded sky, Jun Sahara, captain of the guard team.

Of course, before their first official meeting, Misaki was familiar with the guard team entouring the boss of the eastern district. But she always preferred to not look at them and avoid their gaze when the boss they were protecting decided to go drinking at the club. And that was probably the reason why she never noticed another girl around her age being part of the group. The group of guards looked so scary, Misaki never would have imagined who those members could be beyond their professional occupation. She never had to wonder. Until the day come that she was the one in a dangerous situation.

The day started as any other.
A slow-day at the club, drinks being served, avoiding the client eyes, just a normal day for Misaki. Well, it was like this until the moment she found herself being carried into a pair of unknown arms, supposedly by a rumored serial killer of the island.

The arms carrying her had came up from nowhere, but the very next moment, Misaki couldn't feel the ground beneath her feet anymore. However, the arms seemed delicate, holding her not too strongly, but just strong enough so she would not fear falling accidentally. But if she did fall out of his arm, it was just her luck. Maybe Misaki would be lucky to escape this strong grip on all of her body. After all, she had no idea what the intention of the man carrying her.

She glanced up a moment at the man carrying her. He seemed young, younger than she imagined. His face was delicate, just breaking into adulthood. A face too delicate to be a killer. Pale blue eyes and long eyelashes falling delicately on his checks. But if Misaki was right and this was Yakumo Amagiri, the killer ghoul of this island- then she was in more trouble that she thought when she first looked at his face.

Probably noticing Misaki stare, the killer slowly lowered his face to look properly at her. He looked just like a kicked puppy, but still, Misaki could not help but feel uneasy looking at him. It was like looking at a bear, an animal looking adorable and cuddly, until he decided to attack you.

''I… I’m sorry about this,'' Said the man looking into her eyes ''But.. Let me just… Barrow you for a moment while I make my escape, ok?''

Misaki could not say anything. Even if she knew what to say, she was pretty sure that her vocal cords would not function. She simply nodded a little, just to assure that she was not dreaming or that she had not passed out from the shock. No. She was still conscious. The man carrying her gave her a little smile and continued running, still transporting her in his arms. The scenery was passing by too quickly to make sense of where he was taing her. But that was ok. Maybe it was better she didn't know. It was ok. She was still conscious. And that was why she clearly eared the roaring sound of chainsaws pursuing the man transporting her, even if her mind was in too much of a daze to clearly realize what it meant.

A moment later, all of it catch up to her when she found herself facing a roaring chainsaw being held by a young girl that could not be older than her. The killer had stopped running to face the girl too. Her hair was covering her eyes, so it was impossible to know what kind of expression she had, but her voice was steady when she declared:
''Please let her go.''

Misaki could feel Yakumo back up a little at the treat. She swallowed her saliva. At this point, she was not entirely sure if the man holding her was going to hurt her or not, but she was certain than a chainsaw to the face certainly was not a good thing. She could feel tears coming to her eyes from the stress. She was scared. She was so scared and yet, the girl in front of them seemed unwithering, saying once more:
''Please let her go. Please let her go and we will not hurt you.''

Misaki continued trembling as she saw another woman join the girl in front or her. She was holding a katana at the man holding her. She could feel him hesitating once more, this time more discernibly. A little moment passed like this, the two weapons in front of them ready to attack at any moment. She could feel her body trembling int the arm of the man and strangely, she could almost feel the arms holding her a little firmly, as if Yakumo was trying to reassure her. She was not sure it was working, her emotions were such a mess. Maybe he was just trying to comfort himself. It seemed like forever, but finally she slowly felt the grip of the man holding her slowly soften. The next thing Misaki knew she was facing the ground as she could hear the sound of the man running away quickly, being pursued by one of the guards.

Misaki was still trembling, so she stayed as still as possible, facing the hard ground a moment. She was not sure what had just happen. Her breathing was shaky and coming in too quick, but she was alive. She was alive and she was ok. She could probably weep from joy. She was ok. Everything was ok. But a soft sound above Misaki quickly brung her back to earth, as a reminder that time was still passing.

She looked up, only to see the mystery girl that had saved her standing before her. Her chainsaws were slowing down gradually and for the first time since she saw the other girl, Misaki could clearly see her face without hair blocking her view. The girl appeared before her with an angelic face and soft eyes, so pretty that she seemed to be unreal. The stranger extended an hand in front of her to help Misaki up and in a voice that was far more shy and trembling than what she sounded when she had first came to her rescue, she said:
''U-uhm… S-Sorry about all that, I wish you wouldn’t have to get m-mixed up in all of this… My… My name is Jun Sahara. I-I am captain of the guard team! You are in security now. Uh… What is your name?''

But Misaki could not answer. Her entire body was still trembling from all the emotion she had lived. She tried to open her mouth and say something, but all she could do was open and close it like a fish. No sound was able to get out of her mouth. Her breathing was still coming too fast for it to be normal and the next thing Misaki could registered was the worried look of Jun in front of her.

She passed out in front of the other girl.

I’m running.

The world around me seems almost still, moving really slowly, but my body knows that I’m running. My muscles don’t work as quickly as my brain though, so everything seems to be slowed down.

I know that if I let my focus go, the world will simply go back to its original speed. It works like this, things are slowed down only because I want them that way. Because this is a precious time and I want to live every seconds of it as much as possible.

Because this is a precious time.

This is a very precious time; like all moments I get to spent along my love.

She is running after me. And that’s why the entire world has slowed down. The only thing important right now is this chase, her after me, trying to catch up, but she never can.

I would like for her to catch up.

I would like that.

But I can’t let that happen. Because if I would let her catch me, nothing good could happen to me. Because Miss Nazuna doesn’t feel the same way that I feel about her.

Not that she would know.

She doesn’t know.

She doesn’t even know.

The problem is that we are enemy. So I can’t let her catch me, because that would mean trouble. And that would mean that I would never be able to confess properly my feelings for her. And that would be bad. And I would be sad. It is not my fault I’ve fallen in love with her. It just happened and I have no control on my heart. Sometimes, I wonder if I should regret this decision. But then the answer come quickly in my mind.

No, I don’t regret this decision.

I would never regret loving Miss Nazuna.

So the only thing I can do is continue running.

Enjoying the time we can spend together.

Hoping that I can see her again soon.

Soon.

This word puts a lot of hope in my chest.

It is normal to be excited to spent time with a lover.

Yes. I am normal.

And I think running just a little faster to lose Miss Nazuna tailing me-
This is not a tragedy.

I am normal.

I can both be both sad and happy to have to leave her so soon.

Sad because I want to spend just a little more time with her.

But happy because I can see her again soon.

So I jump up and climb up a building, using the window sill to propel me forward and up, soon disappearing on top of it and continuing running, even if I know she can’t fallow me up here.

And my heart sing-

See you soon. See you soon.

''Oh? What have you gotten here?''

This is the words that escape the lips of her boss as Jun came back through the door of the casino. For a moment, Gitarin wonders what happened to Nazuna, but he is far more curious as to why the young girl in front of him is transporting a body in her arm.

Jun is carrying the girl used as an hostage in her arms bridal style with some difficulty. After all she's also carrying her two chainsaws on her back, so definitely, the girl can't be easy to lift. Almost immediately, Carlos try to come and help Jun to carry himself the precious charge she's holding in her arms, but Jun seems reluctant to let go.

The girl is passed out, but we can see almost a small smile on her lips, as if she would not exchange her current place for anything in the world. It is peaceful once again.

Looking at this scene and at the two girls, the boss of the Western district can't control the small smile that gains his lips.

''Well, this definitely could be interesting...''
