Work Text:
It was a pretty morning outside and the air was filled with… screaming.
A middle aged man was thrown onto the floor, his hands tied. In front of him was one of the most powerful mafia bosses, Yoo Joonghyuk. He stared down at the man with a glare, looking at him as if he was the dirtiest thing in existence. He ignored the cries and begs for mercy, amused by the big contrast to his earlier attitude when he succeeded in killing one of Yoo Joonghyuk’s workers (workers, not men because he has guys and gals he’s not a sexist mafia boss :3
Yoo Joonghyuk walked forward, stopping just in front of him. Besides two other workers, they were only ones in the room. Or, that’s what the tied up man thought. In the corner of the dark room he heard shuffling, and saw a silhouette. There was a short man in a white dress dusting some shelves as if everything else that occurred in the hallways and room didn’t even register to him. He hummed a simple tune as he worked.
“Dokja,” Yoo Joonghyuk called out
The man stepped away from the shelf with a sweet smile. “Yes, darling?”
“What do you think I should do? Should I spare him?”
The intruder looked up at the short man who held his life in his hands now. He’d spare him, right? He looked a lot nicer than the mafia boss-
“Well, I’ve never been fond of men who beat their wives,” Kim Dokja muttered, a dark look behind his smile.
The man’s eyes widened. How did he know about that…?
And that was his last thought before he was shot at the back of the head. Kim Dokja sighed at the mess, staring at the blood as if it was a normal stain.
“And I just mopped this room.”
Yoo Joonghyuk was at his desk, sorting through his papers. One of the better things he was able to do. He couldn’t actually kill anyone without getting motivation from his partner, it came a lot more difficult to him than it did to his innocent looking wife. He had no idea why Kim Dokja seemed so unaffected by it, but didn’t question anything as long as he was loved.
Speaking of which, his dear wife entered the room with his lunch. Well, the lunch he cooked for himself but Kim Dokja liked bringing it to him like a dutiful wife. Yoo Joonghyuk noted the blood splattered all over his white dress.
“Got attacked on the way here,” Kim Dokja nonchalantly explained, wiping blood from the corner of his mouth.
Yoo Joonghyuk stared in worry at the fresh cut on his arm. Kim Dokja fondly sighed at his husband’s useless fretting.
“It’ll heal,” he reassured. “You should be more worried if I found a cut on you… I’d kill whoever did it.”
The taller pretended he wasn’t flustered by his violent wife so stared back at the papers.
“I’d hug you but I really need to wash up all… this.” Kim Dokja gestured the stains.
“I liked that dress.”
He smiled, amused. “I’ll sew a new one in no time.”
Yoo Joonghyuk reached up and wiped a drop of blood from his cheek, then kissed the spot where it was. Kim Dokja smiled.
“Hey oppa- EWWWW.”
The two jumped, turning to see Yoo Mia in the doorway still in her school uniform. The child was so stealthy, even for them.
“Mia- you shouldn’t walk around here on your own,” Yoo Joonghyuk scolded.
“I crawled through the vent!” She huffed. “Are you two done smooching?”
“We weren’t-“ he sighed.
“Something wrong, Mia?” Kim Dokja asked, delicately.
“Yeah! A boy in my class stole money from me.” She stomped her feet.
Kim Dokja contemplated to himself. “Want help?”
“Are you going to kill him?” She titled her head, asking it as if it were a normal thing to say.
Yoo Joonghyuk stared at Kim Dokja with a surprised look. The shorter met his husband’s eyes then sighed with an eye roll.
“Calm down, obviously I’m not killing a child.”
Yoo Mia whined in disappointment. He kneeled down to her level.
“Here’s what we’ll do. Your brother will give you more money and you’ll punch the boy as hard as you can so he stops bothering you.”
“Why can’t oppa just put a hit on him?”
“Mia, do you want to be known as the mafia boss’s harmless little sister or as the scariest girl in school?”
The child thought to herself then nodded, liking the sound of the latter.
“Good,” Kim Dokja praised with a soft smile.
“Can I borrow a gun then?”
He sighed.
“No Mia. You don’t need a gun to punch someone,” Yoo Joonghyuk spoke up.
“You never know!”
“I told you, I’ll give you a gun when you’re 18.”
“16!”
“19.”
16!”
“25.”
“Ugh fine 18!” She pouted. “You’re so mean oppa.”
“Go on, go to your back to your unnie’s before it gets dark. Do you need me to walk you?” Kim Dokja asked lightly.
“Ugh no I’m not a kid!”
And with that she left the room. She was surrounded by violence from a young age so things like Kim Dokja being covered in blood and her brother teaching her about guns were “normal.”
On the other hand, their other kids were a lot more sheltered.
Living in the larger house got noisy, especially at night with all the gun battles and basement torturing, so the kids lived in a smaller but nearby house, surrounded by flowers.
At night Kim Dokja prepared for dinner in the small house, trying his best to be the cook for today. A sight his kids did not enjoy. For one, Yoo Joonghyuk’s cooking was much better. And secondly, if Kim Dokja was cooking, that meant Yoo Joonghyuk was still working for the night.
“Dad’s not coming?” Shin Yoosung asked, frowning.
Kim Dokja matched her expression, feeling guilty. “I’m sorry, love. But I’ll cook the best dinner you’ll ever taste!”
The kids didn’t believe him one bit.
Once the food was plated, the two sat on either side of him while his baby rested on his lap. He smiled as he listened to how their day went, glad to hear it being full of joy and nothing violent.
That was until a body was thrown through the window.
He quickly covered their eyes and held them into a protective hug.
“M-mom…?” Lee Gilyoung whimpered, startled by the noise.
“It’s okay just… a bird flew in,” Kim Dokja gritted out, glaring at the bloodied body that dared interrupt his dinner.
Yoo Joonghyuk sheepishly entered the room. He was never good at having clean fights. He quickly dragged the body out the kitchen and Kim Dokja quickly got up, pushing his kids to the stairs.
“Just stay in your rooms for a bit, okay? Mommy will take care of this. Make sure to look after your sister.” He kissed their foreheads and ushered them away.
Once they were safe, he let out a sigh of relief and pouted at his husband.
“…Are you mad?” Yoo Joonghyuk quietly asked, looking like a kicked puppy.
He couldn’t be, not when his husband looked at him so sweetly.
He shook his head. “You look exhausted, I’ll take care of this, love.”
He grabbed one of the knives from the rack. Yoo Joonghyuk didn’t know why Kim Dokja always insisted on a kitchen knife being his weapon of choice over all the expensive guns and blades he owned. His wife only mentioned something about it giving him a thrill that lets him finish the job.
Kim Dokja walked to the limping body, the knife swaying back and forth in his hands. He stopped by Yoo Joonghyuk and lightly grabbed the back of his head, leaning in close.
“You should watch over the kids. Wash the blood off your hands and go to them,” he whispered, kissing him.
Yoo Joonghyuk went red, then composed himself quickly and nodded, walking upstairs. Kim Dokja turned back to the body on the floor that was trying to crawl away. He smiled.
Upstairs, the two kids tried their best to soothe Biyoo’s cries but to no avail.
“Should we go to mom?” Lee Gilyoung suggested, his ears hurting from the wailing.
“No, he said to wait here,” Shin Yoosung argued, trying to give Biyoo a toy.
The door opened and they looked at it in anticipation. Then beamed when they saw who it was.
“Dad!” The kids happily cried, rushing over to hug him, climbing his legs like kittens.
Yoo Joonghyuk smiled, patting their heads. He didn’t see them often but tried his best to at least spend time with them once a day. Being a mafia boss was no excuse for being a dead beat dad. Biyoo wobbled as she crawled over to him, and his heart broke at her sad expression.
“Come here,” he mumbled, reaching his arms out.
She stopped crying the moment she was held, and quietly nibbled his large hand.
“Did mom get rid of the bird?” Lee Gilyoung innocently asked.
Downstairs, Kim Dokja was stabbing the body over and over. “One dinner! I WANTED ONE FUCKING DINNER!”
“He’s… working on it,” Yoo Joonghyuk muttered.
“I hope he doesn’t hurt the bird!” Shin Yoosung added.
“It’ll be okay,” Yoo Joonghyuk reassured.
Kim Dokja continued his attack downstairs but no one heard it because they were like Light Yagami’s family where you could laugh manically and no one would question it.
Yoo Joonghyuk picked up all three kids in his big strong arms because ok flex and sat on the bed, finding a story to read them. They happily cuddled against him. Shin Yoosung began telling him about a school assignment she had where she needed to write a few words describing her parents. She called her dad “gentle giant” and her mom “sometimes a sweet mother hen but sometimes an angry hamster.” Yoo Joonghyuk smiled, agreeing with the definitions.
It didn’t take long for all three to fall asleep on him. He only wished Yoo Mia stayed over too, then he could have all the people he loved in his arms. Speaking of which, the stairs creaked as Kim Dokja walked in the room, his hair damp after he spent a while in the shower.
He softly smiled at his adorable family, making way to join them. He leaned on Yoo Joonghyuk’s shoulder, staring at his sleeping kids.
“Can you take out the trash for me later, darling?” He asked sweetly, referring to the body he stuffed in the bag.
Yoo Joonghyuk nodded, kissing his cheek.
“I’m free tomorrow…” he shyly added.
Kim Dokja beamed. “So we can go on a date?”
“Do you want to go out for dinner or do you want me to murder all the people on your hit list?”
“Hmm… let’s have a dinner this time~!”
Yoo Joonghyuk smiled at his adorable wife, wrapping an arm around him. He reminisced the first time they met. He was bleeding to near death, his perpetrator holding a gun to his head. She smiled, finally being the one who would take down the mafia boss. That was until she suddenly collapsed. Yoo Joonghyuk looked up, dizzy from blood loss, and saw a short man innocently looking at him.
“Yeah I don’t like her either. She was my daughter’s old caretaker. I’ve been wanting to do that for a while,” he cheerfully played with the knife in his hands.
And that was when Yoo Joonghyuk fell in love.
Kim Dokja thought his dumb, love struck expression was adorable so lingered by him for a while, helping him patch up and hide from the police.
A few nights later, he was invited to dinner at the large home. Kim Dokja wasn’t too intimidated by the eyes glaring at him as he walked down the hall, and had a fond smile when he sat across Yoo Joonghyuk at the table.
“So, when did you first start killing?” The shorter asked, hearts in his eyes.
“…20.”
“So cute.”
Then he made out with him while a man was bleeding to death and begging for the pain to end. Kim Dokja sighed at the noise and put his hand over Yoo Joonghyuk’s, who blushed, and positioned the gun to shoot. That was when Yoo Joonghyuk realised it was easier to kill when he had Kim Dokja by his side.
He came back to present day when he felt Kim Dokja almost fall off the bed, sound asleep. He grabbed him and did his best to put the sleeping kids in bed, then carried his wife and baby back to their room.
He tucked them in, smiling as Kim Dokja cuddled Biyoo. He kissed his forehead then his baby’s, and reluctantly left the room, wanting to stay badly but couldn’t, not with so much work to do.
He didn’t remember much of the night, probably getting knocked out again. It was a common occurrence, even more so when he woke up in Kim Dokja’s arms, head against his chest. He held onto him tightly.
The shorter smiled, stroking his hair. “Poor Joonghyuk-ah so overworked,” he teased, then kissed his forehead. “Time to rest now. I took care of everything.” He smiled, and that’s when Yoo Joonghyuk noticed the blood stains on his cheek, which annoyed him. The only thing that should be red on Kim Dokja’s face should be Yoo Joonghyuk’s lipstick which he didn’t wear but he strongly considered starting to.
He leaned up and lightly kissed him. Kim Dokja contently kissed back.
A body was thrown through the window. Followed by a nervous woman.
“…S-sorry boss,” Yoo Sangah quietly said. “I’ll pay for the window?”
Kim Dokja stared in disappointment. “Can you tell Sooyoung I hate her for interrupting my lovely moment with my family?”
Yoo Sangah blinked. “But it was my fault?”
“I’ll cut Sooyoung’s pay.” Yoo Joonghyuk added because he was down bad for Kim Dokja.
“But it was my fault?!!!”
“Sangah you’re getting a raise and a paid day off.”
The woman just dragged the body out the house, too confused to comprehend the odd couple. Kim Dokja had a small smile, and picked Biyoo up.
“This silly girl can sleep through anything. She could sleep through the apocalypse.” He kissed her little tummy.
Yoo Joonghyuk fondly stared at him playing with the baby. He adored every side of his wife.
