THE WHITE HOUSE...
Peter had longed waited for this moment. To finally learn the truth about his father and be done with it.
All those years defending his dad, be angry with his godfather - Jim, for writing that article about him and being criticised himself because of his dad; it finally ends here for good.
Peter hoped after this, he can move on and start a new chapter in his life.
One with Rose.
He’s only known her for a week. A week that was beyond insane after everything they’ve been through together.
But he didn’t care. He wanted to be with Rose and hoped she felt the same way.
He just had to see this thing with his dad through.
But a small part of him was afraid. Afraid that he wasn’t going to like the answer.
And Rose could see something was bothering him, as they walked to Peter’s basement room that he works in at nights - with the president and some of her secret service agents, behind them.
Just as they reached the door; one of the secret service agents stops Rose from entering, saying it’s off limits to civilians like herself.
But Peter immediately comes to her defence.
“Hey, no. She’s with me.” Peter says to the guy.
They all look at President Travers, who gives them the go ahead.
“We’ll head back upstairs and wait for you. Take as long as you need.” Travers tells them, before leaving with her secret service agents.
Peter takes a deep breath before opening the door and heads inside with Rose, before shutting it behind them.
Rose grabs a chair and sits next to Peter, who is staring at the laptop in front of him on the table.
She notices he’s not itching to open it just yet and gives him a moment to stare at it in silence.
“You ok ?” She asks sincerely.
“Not really.” Peter replies.
“What’s wrong ?” Rose asks.
“I guess... I don’t know... i’m afraid. I’ve waited years for this and now it’s here...” Peter says.
“And part of you is afraid that you’re not gonna like what you’re about to see.” Rose adds.
“Yeah... something like that. (Makes a sad and quiet chuckle noise). I mean... after the shit we’ve just been through, you would think I could handle this.” Peter tells her.
“Yeah but this is personal for you. It’s totally understandable to feel this way.” Rose replies.
Peter simply nods while still staring at the screen.
From here; Rose’s eyes look down to notice Peter’s hand start to shake a bit and continuously tapping his leg with his finger.
She was all to familiar with that.
Tap tap tap.
Tap tap tap.
Tap tap tap.
Feeling concerned even more for him and wanting to show Peter that he’s not alone; Rose gently grabs his hand and interlock her fingers with his.
Stopping his hand from shaking and tapping.
Peter immediately feels her touch and looks down at their hands for a second before looking up into her beautiful eyes.
He felt a bit more calmer just by feeling her touch.
“Hey, you’re not alone, ok ? I’m here for you, like you were for me.” Rose comforts him.
Peter just nods gently at her, before the two look forward and begin watching the footage, with Rose keeping her hand interlocked with Peter’s.
Rose mainly watches Peter’s eyes as the footage plays and once he hears his father apologising for what he has done; Peter shuts his eyes and lowers his head slightly in shame.
“No, no, no, no... fuck... why dad... why ?” Peter thought in his head.
Rose couldn’t believe it herself but she was more focused on Peter.
She could see he was hurt deeply by the truth.
Looking back up at the screen and watching the rest of the footage; Peter stares at the screen in silence - even after it ends - while Rose just watches him process it all in his head.
“All those years... defending him and believing he was innocent... it was all for nothing. He actually did it, Rose. He fucking did it. People kept telling me, he was a traitor and i didn’t want to believe it. What kind of person does that make me ?” Peter asks her.
She immediately caress’ his face with her hands and gently makes him look at her.
“It makes you nothing like him. Wanting to believe your dad was innocent doesn’t make you a bad person, Peter. The same can be said about how you believed Farr was on our side.” Rose tells him.
“Yeah but I ended up being wrong about her too, while you right to think she was a traitor.” Peter counters.
“True but my point still stands. You’re nothing like either them and at least your dad showed he regretted his mistake on that video. Farr is a cold hearted backstabbing bitch that helped get my aunt and uncle killed. You’re a good person, Peter. Wanting to believe the good in people is one of many things I lov... admire about you.” Rose says, realising what she almost said.
Peter noticed it too but instead of making her feel a bit more embarrassed, he just nods and gives Rose a small smile.
Rose returns the smile and not too long after, the two press their lips together and kiss.
“Let’s get outta of here, huh ?” She asks him.
“Yeah.” Peter replies.
A WHILE LATER AT PETER’S APARTMENT...
After returning home and ordering in; Peter and Rose decide to relax and cuddle up together on Peter’s couch, while watching something on Netflix.
Feeling Rose resting her head against his neck and wrapping herself around him, being very comfortable - brought Peter some peace and happiness.
He hadn’t felt this for a long time. Not even with his ex fiancé, Zoe - did he feel this happy.
Rose truly means everything to him and almost hearing her say the L word earlier - despite it being very early in their relationship - only made Peter more confident and sure that he wanted to spend his life with her.
There just one thing he needed to tell her and thought now was the right time to do it.
“Hey, Rose. There’s something I need to tell you.” Peter says.
“Sure, what’s up ?” Rose replies, still watching the tv.
“You know earlier, before we left The White House; you went to the restroom while I talked to Travers ?...” Peter begins.
“Yeah...” Rose says, turning to face him.
“Well; after thanking her for letting us see that video of my dad, Travers offered me to make a official Night Agent.” Peter continues.
Rose sits up straight and looks slightly shocked but not too much.
She pretty figured Peter wanted to become a Night Agent. To do more than just work nights in a windowless room in The White House’s basement.
“Oh... that’s... that’s great.” Was all she could say.
She was happy for Peter but part of her did worry what did this mean for them ?
She didn’t want to lose him.
“I turned her down, though.” Peter reveals, which immediately shocks Rose even more.
“Wait, what ? You turned Travers down to become a Night Agent ? Peter, that was your dream job ! I could see you wanted to become one. Why did you turn it down ?” Rose asks him.
“Well, simply for two main reasons. One; after telling Travers I didn’t want to leave my home or you because we have gotten so close - she understood why and instead offered the next best thing.” Peter says.
“Which was ?” Rose asks.
“To become her new Chief of Staff.” Peter tells her.
Rose’s eyes shot up in surprise upon hearing that.
“No freaking way ! She gave you Farr’s job ?” Rose replies.
“Yeah, basically. It’s definitely a big promotion from where I was before and after we saved her and the nation; Travers thought she could trust me with the job, especially after discovering what Farr did. And besides; it’s not like I could turn down the president again after immediately doing so.” Peter says with a smirk.
“Ok... wow... I mean... that’s big.” Rose says.
“Yeah.” Peter replies, agreeing with her.
“And the second reason ?” She asks.
Peter closes his eyes for a moment and takes a deep breath, before opening them again and looks at Rose.
“After us meeting... after everything we did together... it made me realise that there was something I wanted more than becoming a Night Agent... you.” Peter admits.
Rose says nothing but forms a smile - feeling moved by his confession.
“Rose... I know we have barely begun this thing between us but I know without a doubt in my mind, that I want this. I want us. And if you don’t feel the same way or you feel like i’m putting pressure on you, then I...” Peter says but before he can finish; Rose leans in close and quickly kisses him passionately.
The two could hear each other let out a quiet moan as they kissed, before departing their lips and Rose caressing his cheeks again with her hands.
“I want you, too. There’s nothing i’ve been more certain about, in my life.” Rose admits to him.
“Yeah ?” Peter whispers, forming a smile.
“Yeah.” Rose whispers back, smiling too - before kissing him passionately again.
A few minutes after making out a bit; the two return to their previous comfortable position and cuddle together again, with Peter gently stroking Rose’s back.
“Just so you know, I will have to return to California at some point and get the rest of my things. Plus, I have to take care of the funeral arrangements for my aunt and uncle.” Rose tells him.
“I’ll help you with that.” Peter offers.
“You don’t have to do that.” Rose says.
“I know... but I want to.” Peter replies, making Rose smile again.
“What then, after doing all of that ?” Peter adds.
“I don’t know... (turns to look up at him) I hear Washington, D.C. is great this time of year.” Rose tells him, still smiling.
Peter smiles back at her, before the two lean in close again and kiss.
The two know deep down they love each other - even if it’s too early in their relationship to say it.
But both of them know it. They also know they will get there one day and say it to each other.
But right now - what they have in this moment between them - is good enough.
