Summary
In a rigid matriarchal society, Jonas, a painfully shy and superstitious servant with a stubborn stutter, keeps to the quiet corners of a noble estate, tending to duties that draw little notice. Branwen, the estate’s gruff Hunting Marshal, is as blunt as she is skilled, more at home among hounds and horses than with people.
Their paths cross when other servants begin offloading their duties onto Jonas, leading him to do menial tasks in the kennels and stables. What results is an unlikely bond that tests Jonas’s quiet solitude and softening Branwen’s guarded heart. Together, they navigate a world that expects obedience from him, command from her, and offers little space for tenderness between the two.
