   Kris wakes up in the middle of the night with their heart throbbing in panic, breaths quick and heavy. The nightmare replays in their head clear as day. They can't shake it off, mind a mess in contemplative thought after what it had instilled in them. Fortunately, Madeline wasn't awoken by their sudden jolt, she slept soundly.
