Atrophy

Summary:

A fading world where no one realizes it's rotting.

Chapter Text

Mafuyu stood in the night's cool bite. The summer was starting to get colder, and things felt wrong. There was an itch in her memories. Something lurked in the fog.

She clutched at the handle of a black case. The music club gave her visions of some murky, empty lake, and her head buzzed with tunes that felt familiar.

If she knew how to play, she'd take a breath and cast them to the wind in hopes the reverberations made sense. This was not what her cluttered thoughts conjured when she imagined music, but it drew her in nonetheless.

Maybe she will try and swap instruments soon. Something about the piano didn't feel right, but neither did the trumpet. Perhaps she would be stuck chasing this hazy familiarity and affinity for music. Where was this warmth that she ached for to be found?

Mafuyu shuddered, trying to remember what could almost be a past life. Nothing was recalled. Why was a number in her mind, and what exactly did 25 mean to her?

Humming a song she didn't know, Mafuyu went home.
