‘Thought’

King of Fools

‘She could have at least let me finish the song.’ Jaune grumbled under his breath as he walked back towards the dorm room. Weiss had shot him down again, and mercilessly at that. The dance was coming up, and he really wanted to bring her to it. She would look beautiful in whatever she wore, and he just wanted to see her smile. ‘I’ll get through eventually.’

Jaune paused at the door to his team’s room and sunk down against a wall. He leaned the guitar against it and sank between his knees. The blonde would have to come at this another way. Maybe more flowers? He had the confidence; he just needed gifts. A frown grew on the blonde’s face, a heavy sigh leaving him.

“Pyrrha, why don’t you tell him?” Nora’s voice echoed through the door, and Jaune’s ears suddenly were on high alert as he leaned a bit to the left. Thankfully the hallway was empty for now, so he could hear the relatively low words coming from his room. ‘What him do they mean? Was Pyrrha meeting with someone without telling anyone?’

A heavy weight filled his chest at the thought, and the blond held back growl as he continued to listen in. ‘Where did that come from?’ Pyrrha’s voice was harder to pick up, but he could feel the pain in it, “Jaune chose Weiss. I have to respect that.”

Wait. Him? She was just his friend. Why would she be jealous of Weiss, sounding so defeated. That weight in his chest only got stronger, his mind screaming at him to think. Yet all he could do was eavesdrop on his teammates, needing to know more. Nora’s voice grew in volume, “What happens if Weiss agrees to go to his dance, to be his girlfriend. What would you do?”

“I would… I would…” Pyrrha clearly mumbled something, because he missed something. His heart beat in his chest, and a flush grew on the handsome young man’s face. ‘Wait, does Pyrrha…? There was no way she could like me like that, right?’ She was a champion fighter. Had tons of fans. She could have any guy she wanted. The redhead had helped him train and get stronger, but that’s just what good teammates did!

“Pyrrha, you just need to tell Jaune you like him. Walk up to his face, grab his shoulders and say you want to kiss him till he can’t breathe!” Jaune could only imagine Nora leaning forward, and excited look on her face. A smile grew on the blonde’s face, though it was wiped away by Pyrrha’s next words.

“He’ll move on from Weiss. And then I’ll make my move…” The usual confidence and courage in his partner’s words had disappeared, and Jaune felt like the biggest fool on Remnant. ‘Pyrrha likes me? She likes me!’ By the brothers, what did he do with that?!

Jaune sank deeper into himself and wanted to let out a cry. A beautiful woman had wanted him the entire time, and he had missed that? Had Weiss blinded him so much that he missed what was right beside him. ‘Ok Jaune, take a deep breath. Just gotta get up and lay down.’ Jaune stood up, and grabbing his guitar, he opened the door to the dorm room, slouching forward. The words bounced around his head, and he was surprised when Nora spoke, her blue eyes glowing in excitement, “So how did it go?” Pyrrha’s eyes were wide, and her face red, while Nora was leaning forward, with a wide smile on her face. Pyrrha and Nora both had a tank top, Pyrrha in a pair of sweatpants while Nora was in a pair of shorts. Ren was meditating, wearing a long robe. Pyrrha’s hair was loose, outside of her normal ponytail, like a waterfall of red.

“How did what go?”

“Weiss!” She gestured to the guitar, “Did she say yes?”

Oh that. Jaune shook his head, unable to keep the swirling chaos in his head from leaking through, “She said no and slammed the door on my face.” Not that it was important anymore.

Pyrrha walked up to him, putting a hand on his shoulder, which was doing nothing to help the confusion and rising attraction to his partner, “Do you want to train? It might help get your mind off of Weiss.” Everything had changed. A heat filled his cheeks, and he could smell Pyrrha’s perfume. This seemingly wasn’t missed by Nora, who narrowed her eyes with a slight smirk. Jaune was too focused on the beautiful green eyes, and that distracting valley of cleavage. ‘Were they always that big?’

Jaune put a hand on hers, which she smiled at. That damn bright smile that made his heart race harder, “Thank you for the offer, but I just want to think. We can make it up tomorrow?”

Pyrrha nodded, removing her hand from his shoulder after a squeeze, his traitorous eyes glancing down at her cleavage again, “Certainly. If you ever need to talk about something, don’t forget I’m here.” There as a small hint of longing in her friendly tone, and Jaune had to nod as he got control of his body. Pyrrha moved back to her bed, and he couldn’t help but take in her curves, swallowing heavily. ‘I’m screwed.’

Nora had a smirk that really wasn’t helping, and Jaune just moved to his bed, laying on his side to avoid looks by the ginger. Past actions began to fill his mind. Pyrrha had not only protected him when she learned about him faking, she had agreed to train him. She had saved him at Initiation and had woken up his aura. The redhead had supported him as team leader even when she really shouldn’t have. And her proud smile at him killing an Ursa on his own might have a new meaning?

When had she fallen for him? Why had she fallen for him? He was not even a trained hunter, yet she had feelings for him. A woman who was one of the most kickass women he had ever met. Watching her demolish CRDL had been amazing, and she was so kind besides that.

‘Damnit!’ All of these feelings swirled in his head. He needed to talk to someone, anyone. The knight knew someone on Team RWBY could help. As long as Weiss wasn’t there. He suspected shew would be very upset if he was there.

Another day, another rough day in combat class. Jaune had thankfully faced a lesser skilled opponent, and was able to pull out a win, if barely. ‘Pyrrha’s training is definitely paying off.’ The redhead had beamed at him, and Jaune had to fight a flush. His mind was still a jumble, but the idea of being with Pyrrha was growing.

And thankfully he hadn’t fought Weiss. She seemed very tense and aggressive in her spar, and he hoped it wasn’t him who did that. ‘I do need to apologize regardless, but I do not want my legs frozen, thank you very much!’ Her team had cheered her on, and he had, but she almost seemed to not look at him when she looked at everyone else.

But Jaune knew he needed to talk with someone. After classes had cleared up, he told Pyrrha he was good to train that night. She had been looking at him concerned all day, and while he appreciated it, it was slightly annoying him, even if it wasn’t her fault and she was being a good friend. ‘And more than that.’

Jaune knocked on the door of RWBY’s room, still in his uniform. He tried to keep his shoulders high, but the interpersonal weight on him wasn’t making it easy. His dad had never said this was supposed to be complicated! Then again, his dad’s advice didn’t seem to work, so maybe he should have asked his sisters about all of this. And he would rather die than tell his sisters about his girl problems. They would never let him live it down.

The door swung open, and the thick blonde hair of Yang were the first thing he saw. She tilted her head, her purple eyes questioning him as she rested her hand on the door, “If you’re here for Weiss, she’s with Ruby getting something for the dance.” Yang hadn’t changed out of the uniform, though she had removed her jacket.

‘Thank the gods!’ Jaune shook his head, “I’m not here for that. I need someone to talk to about… girl problems.” Yang’s smile grew, and the blond only hoped that he wouldn’t regret talking to her. Yang opened the door wider.

“Then come in. I know how to talk to the ladies.” She winked playfully, and Jaune moved inside, standing awkwardly as he didn’t want to just sit on the makeshift bunkbeds. He still had no idea how those books and sheets held up the beds, but he wasn’t going to question the logic. Yang gestured to one of the chairs, “Feel free to sit down. You’re a friend, vomit boy.”

Jaune frowned at the nickname but took her offer. He sat at one of the desks, and Yang sat on a lower bed, swinging her legs, “Are you asking how to woo Weiss? Because I don’t think this is the best time for her. No offense.”

“It’s not her. It’s… someone else.” He was going to have to get to the real issue, and Yang’s now inquisitive gaze was just intensifying. Her eyes shined with excitement, and she grinned,

“Well, if you are asking me, I like a date that makes your blood pump.” Yang crossed her legs, and Jaune grunted.

“It’s Pyrrha.”

Yang’s eyes went wide, and the complete shock at least gave Jaune a second where she wasn’t making a bad joke. Her shoulders began to shake, and it moved down her body, laughs wracking Yang. It was loud and boisterous and not making Jaune feel any better. It wasn’t insulting as far as he could tell, but now he needed to know why she was laughing so hard.

“Yang. Really?” His voice squeaked for a second, his face red hot as Yang looked back up at him, trying to calm herself as the laughs started to die down.

“Sorry… I just… Can’t…. give me a… minute!” Jaune crossed his arms, resisting the urge to scowl. The advice was the most important thing, and right now he wished Blake wasn’t acting paranoid. ‘I hope she gets better.’ Jaune didn’t feel close enough to help her, and the one time he had tried to really talk to her resulted in her sayings something about the White Fang and walking off.

Yang’s laughs finally died down, and she wiped a tear away, “It seems you finally caught on. How did you learn?”

“I overheard her saying she likes me.” No need to repeat the details, “Wait, how long has she liked me?” His voice rose in volume.

Yang began to count down on her fingers, like she was calculating something, “Oh since at least the first or second week of Beacon? Can’t be entirely sure.” She liked him that long? ‘Was I so caught up on Weiss I didn’t notice back then?!’

“Who else knows?”

“Everyone on our teams. She has the most obvious crush I’ve ever seen. No one would take me up on a bet. Weiss called it ‘uncivilized’. Though I’m pretty sure gambling is everywhere.”

Jaune looked down at his feet. His blinders didn’t help, but the shame at being the last to learn hurt a bit. Not for himself but leaving Pyrrha stewing in her feelings. ‘Now I really do feel like an idiot. More than normal.’ Jaune grunted, and looked up at Yang, “I don’t know what to do. It feels unfair to just decide to like her after chasing Weiss for so long.”

“Do you like her?”

“I don’t know? It’s all a mess and my mind is tearing itself apart.”

Yang smiled warmly, and she put her head in her hands, “What about Weiss?”

“I mean I think so, but I’m realizing she doesn’t like me like that.” Jaune’s voice lowered in volume, filling with defeat.

“Hey, don’t worry about the ice queen. Let’s talk about Pyrrha. It’s not your fault. Teenage boys can be very dumb.”

Jaune grunted, “Says the girl who charges in without thought.”

Yang just smiled, “I can think. Sometimes it’s just more fun that way.” She shifted a little bit, “But ignoring that dig, you are being too hard on yourself. She didn’t tell you and there’s no point in focusing on that. Tell me about her.”

The words that came out of her baffled him. Tell Yang about Pyrrha? They were friends, partners, “Why? You know her.”

Yang rolled her eyes, “Just do it. Tell me about her.”

Jaune sighed heavily, “Fine.” He spoke without a second thought, “She’s smart, brave, has a cute laugh and I can’t help but smile when she apologizes when she doesn’t have to. She took me under her wing and has actually given me a chance here. Her eyes are really pretty, and she’s the most kickass girl I have ever seen.” His voice became dreamier and warmer as he spoke, Yang’s smile only growing.

“Do you think she’s hot?”

“Of course! She’s the most beautiful girl at Beacon! Any man or woman would be lucky to have her at their side!” His passions were rising, and Yang had a cheshire cat grin, Jaune’s words catching up to him. ‘Damn!’ The other blonde had caught him in a trap, and he had sprung it without thinking. The swirling storm of feelings calmed, and while his heart raced, things began to slot in place.

He liked a lot about her. All of what he said and more. His blush only grew, and his affection for Pyrrha only grew. It was such a great sensation. He knew what he wanted to try, and how he wanted to make up for how long he made her wait. That wall was finally broken, and while he feared the teasing from his family and friends, he knew that he could be attracted to Pyrrha and not feel weird about it.

Yang nodded, “So are you going to get her, lady killer? I’m pretty sure she likes short and sweet names.”

Jaune would normally retort and at least try to say something, but his mind was rebooting. After a few seconds, he squared his shoulders, a confidence filling his form. Jaune didn’t know how long it would last, “Thank you, Yang.” He stood up, walking towards the door.

Yang called out as he opened it, “I better be the godmother of your first kid!” Jaune heard her but was too focused as he opened the door to his team’s room, seeing Nora and Ren. They looked at him as the door slammed open, and Nora’s grin only grew at Jaune’s next words.

“I need your help.”

Pyrrha leaned back against the wall as a heavy sigh escaped. Her team had been busy today, and while it had given her time to focus on her homework, that familiar loneliness filled her again. Normally Nora was babbling, and Jaune struggling with his work. Yet it was quiet in the room as it neared the time for her training with Jaune. He said he would be there, so she could at least see the boy the she liked.

“Honey, is everything ok?” Her mother’s voice came through the scroll, soft and kind as always. Thetis Nikos’s short air framed a warm, friendly face, the same green eyes meeting Pyrrha’s. The champion’s lips pursed as she realized that she looked like a sulking child. Her unrequited love made her feel like first time she had lost a youth tournament, but her heart hurt, and nothing could help right now.

“Everything’s fine, mom.” The frown didn’t disappear, and Thetis looked like she wanted to reach through the screen.

“Honey, you know you can’t lie to me. Tell me what’s going on.” Maternal warmth covered Pyrrha as she nodded, her head falling as a heavy breath left the redhead.

“How do you tell a boy you like how you feel?”

Thetis moved and sat down on a couch, “I thought you said you were going to tell Jaune.” Pyrrha had tried to hide her feelings from her mother, but she swore her mother was psychic when she smirked at Pyrrha talking about the blond to her mother.

“I was going to, but the words refused to come out. Then he mentioned Weiss and…” The champion’s words trailed off, and her mother’s face shifted in sympathy.

“Oh Pyrrha.” Thetis’s eyes filled with determination, “Has he gotten with this girl?” Pyrrha shook her head, and her mother continued, “Then don’t think of him like a cute boy you like. He’s your next opponent, and your victory is when you get him to take you to the dance!”

Pyrrha had diagnosed her fear a while ago, but confronting it was another issue. Right now, she could at least pretend Jaune could return her feelings. But as soon as the question was asked, she would have to deal with the reality. She was the “Invincible Girl”, yet her heart was far from invincible. It was easy to beat an opponent in an arena, but Jaune couldn’t be bludgeoned and stabbed. ‘But if I think of this as a verbal spar…’

A wavering smile began to grow on Pyrrha’s face. Her mother may not have been a huntress, but she knew how to keep her daughter focused on her training, especially after her father died on a mission. But her father would never have wanted her to give up. ‘Jaune is a handsome, kind and funny enemy. One very good with his hands.’ Her face heated up at the memory of Jaune’s massages, and her mother thankfully didn’t say anything.

“I will… win another battle.” A grin grew on her mother’s face. Pyrrha was still uncertain, butterflies in her stomach, and at the same time a fear that her heart was going to be ripped in half. But worst case, she could enjoy his friendship for the dance and build her confidence. ‘And if he moves on from Weiss, then I have a better chance!’

“That’s my girl. Now go train with your boyfriend.” Her mother looked like she was about to close the call when she spoke again, “Oh right. I wanted to say you can invite your team to stay with us over the break if you want.”

Pyrrha nodded, “I’ll tell them. I love you, mom.”

“Love you too.” The call ended, and Pyrrha took a nervous breath. It wouldn’t be tonight, but she would tell him. Whether she was ready for it or not. ‘You can’t plan for everything.’ With a strong stride, she left to get her weapons and armor. ‘Maybe we can work on grappling.’

Each step was just a bit heavier as she approached the roof. They could have signed up for one of the training areas that all students had access to, but it was important to both of them. And no one seemed to complain about it. ‘Cardin knows to shut his mouth.’ She knew it wasn’t the time to confess with her own mind a bit of a mess.

Soft music began to flow from the other side of the door, and Pyrrha cautiously opened the door, now not sure what was going on. But what she saw was not whatever what she expected to see. Jaune stood in the middle of the roof, romantic music filling the air. He had on a nice white button down and grey pants, his hair combed over and cleaned up a bit, and a nervous smile. In his hands was a bouquet of red and white roses. Her heart raced, and she fought off the instinct to swoon. The inner romantic was waging a war against her warrior heart, and she took a shaky step forward, putting a hand on her chest.

“Jau…ne?” Her heart was practically beating out of her chest, “What… what is going on?” It was like a scene from one of her dreams, yet it was right in front of her. She pinched herself, and winced, and nothing changed. ‘Oh Pyrrha. Deep breaths.’ Her unsteady breaths were covered by the music, and Jaune swallowed as he took a powerful step forward. Then another.

Pyrrha’s body would respond till he was less than a foot from her, his beautiful blue eyes looking deep into hers. She was shaking, and a tear threatened to leak as a bright smile threatened to grow. Jaune seemed to put on his best confident smile, “Do you come here often, beautiful?”

The redhead struggled to take a breath. That line was so cheesy, yet she couldn’t help but giggle as she responded, “Every once in a while.” Jaune offered her the bouquet, and she took it, smelling the roses. A pleased sigh left her, and those nerves were melting as she accepted what was happening, or at least what she hoped was happening.

Jaune ran a hand through his hair, a half-second look of concern crossing his face before he settled into a blushing embarrassment, “Well I had this whole speech planned, but you kind of made my mind go blank.” His words made her look like a tomato, and this was definitely a dream, despite what the pain said.

“So, I might as well be direct.” The blond took a deep breath, a smile Pyrrha had wished to see since she met Jaune on his face, him taking a step forward to cup her cheek, “Do you want to go to the dance with me?”

“As a friend?” Her voice cracked a bit, her face burning as she nuzzled into his hand. Her eyes were half-lidded, a happy sigh escaping her. ‘Was he sure that he can’t flirt? Because my legs are shaking.’ But what Weiss wouldn’t take, Pyrrha would greedily keep for herself.

“Well, I was thinking that it could be our first date, but if you want to just go as friends…” Disappointment filled his voice, and Pyrrha immediately pecked his lips, realizing what mistake she just made. Or she tried, but her nose met his, and she was forced to adjust herself, Jaune now more aware with smile on his face, a nervous chuckle on her lips. It was soft, chaste and gods did her toes curl a bit as she finally got to kiss the boy she had wanted for months.

She wrapped her arms around his neck, keeping her lips on his for a few seconds. It wasn’t like the movies. Neither of them dove into the kiss, Pyrrha too nervous to do anything else. That tingle, that connection left everything feeling warm, and she lovingly sighed, not wanting the moment to end. The music played around them, and his free arm moved to her lower back, pulling her closer.

He broke the kiss, and she whined under her breath as he pulled back, his beautiful blue eyes staring into hers. Pyrrha whimpered, feeling like a helpless, yet happy, girl in his arms. She was one of the best huntresses-in-training, yet all she could do was want to kiss Jaune until he couldn’t breathe, like Nora had said. ‘I need to thank her after this.’

Both of them stayed silent, just basking in the sensation. At this very second, it was just the two of them and their feelings. The broken moon lit the roof around them, and Pyrrha leaned into him. She could see the confident warrior that nobody else did. A natural leader who could so much. And someone that could make her happy. Screw what the media would say. The redhead rested her head in his shoulder, closing her eyes.

He placed his other hand on her hip, and they swayed to the soft music. Her breath wafted over his neck, shuddering desire filling her. He smelled good, and her hands lightly tugged at his collar, looking for something to do, as she whispered out his name. ‘I wish I had recorded this.’ His breath wafted down past her head, and he squeezed her thigh.

He took the lead without a word. He was so confident, and they swayed across the roof the music rising a bit. Jaune’s movements were so natural, and he adapted to the tempo of the music, fingers tapping against her back. Each impact left sent a small surge up her spine, and she kisses his neck without thinking. His neck shuddered under her touch, and the feelings she could bring out of him pushed back those nerves she had before all of this.

As the music was softly fading, Pyrrha pulled her head back to look back at her hopeful boyfriend. She cupped his cheek, and she pulled him in for another kiss. This one was deeper, both of them responding eagerly. It was still chaste, but her face burned as she pushed her chest against his, his hands tightening on her hips. She moaned gently into the kiss, the noise escaping without a thought. Her arms tightened around his neck, and she was forced to breathe through her nose.

Their noses awkwardly bounced as they tried to change the angle, to deepen the growing desire in both of them. Laughs left Jaune as he had to catch his breath. She hoped that fire burned in him, like her. Everything in her body just felt better, and she giggled, loosening the hold, “I think we can call it a date.”

“I would be honored. I can be the guy who asked out the prettiest girl in the school.” Pyrrha shook her head. There was the dork that she cared about. His voice softened, “I’m sorry it took so long.”

Pyrrha’s eyes went wide. ‘How long had he known?’ However, she didn’t have time to answer as the door slammed open, and Nora began to take pictures, a wide smile on her face, “IT’S HAPPENING!”

The new couple rolled their eyes, and Ren stepped out from behind her, “I tried to stop her from interrupting, but you know Nora.” Ren shrugged, and Nora was vibrating.

Pyrrha laughed, and broke her embrace with Jaune, opening her arms. Nora charged into the redhead, and Pyrrha coughed as Nora squeezed her like a constrictor. As strong as Pyrrha was, she sometimes forgot how strong Nora actually was.

Jaune took a step back, and Ren just put a hand on his shoulder. Jaune nodded at the man, “Thanks.”

Ren just nodded, “Hey, if it makes the girls happy.” Pyrrha looked at her whole team, happy all of this happened. Going to Beacon was the best choice she ever made.

Weiss grabbed her books as Port’s class ended. Only one more and she would be done. Half the class had fallen asleep, and months into the year, she at least understood why. Though she was in an especially good mood. Neptune had asked her out to the dance, and of course she said yes. He was cool, fashionable, and handsome. ‘Why would I say no?’

Her eyes had drifted to team JNPR throughout the class, and Pyrrha seemed extra close to Jaune. The redhead seemed to waste her time on the blonde, but normally she wasn’t leaning on him like that. Both Pyrrha and Jaune seemed to smile a lot more, and confusion sat in her stomach. ‘Why? The dance was coming up, but surely that wouldn’t be enough.’

Her heels clicked as she walked out of room, the rest of the class following as some of her teammates were ahead of her. But a hand on her shoulder interrupted her, and she turned to spit venom, when Jaune’s face appeared. The white-haired huntress glared, “Jaune, hands off.”

Jaune pulled his hand back, and Weiss felt a little bad. He wasn’t a completely bad guy, but Jaune asking her out still hung in her head from a few days ago, refusing to leave. But her indignant look did not drop, the knight taking a second to respond, “Can we talk?”

“If you are asking me out, the answer is no.” Eyes were on them in the crowd, but that was thinning as others moved towards their next class. She expected Jaune to be upset, or try to push, but he just shook his head.

“I just want to talk. I’m not asking you out.” Weiss tilted her head a bit. For months he had been interested in her. As much as she did not like it, it was at least their dynamic. But here he looked apologetic, a firmness in his stance that wasn’t there before. ‘What happened?’

Weiss crossed her arms over her chest, “Fine. But let’s go somewhere private.” Jaune nodded and brought them to relatively quiet alcove. There were still sounds of students passing by them, but they were mostly out of the way. Weiss softened her gaze a bit, grunting, “What did you want to say?”

Jaune took a deep breath, “Okay. I just wanted to apologize for bothering you so much when I asked you out. I should have realized that the advice I got wasn’t exactly the best.” Jaune kind of looked like a sad puppy, but Weiss kept up her stern gaze.

“And are you apologizing because someone told you to?” Weiss had dealt with many dumb suitors in her life, and deep down, Jaune wasn’t the worst one. ‘Can’t let him know that. He still must wanted my name.’

“No. I just had to think is all.” Jaune smiled with some warmth, “But I wanted to get on a better foot. I don’t know if we can exactly start over, but I want to be friends. No more asking you out or bothering you beyond friend stuff.” He offered his hand to her.

Weiss looked at his hand. Normally she had to scare off her suitors or get Winter to do it when she was free, but he was just stopping? A part of her was suspicious of this, but his demeanor screamed honesty, and as she was learning more and more, her old instincts and expectations were not always correct. A few eyes were on them, and she wondered what people would say.

Jaune had his good sides, and her team liked him, for what that meant. She still wasn’t sure he deserved Pyrrha to be his partner, and she wondered what a world where she and Pyrrha were partners would be, but that was long gone. Weiss shook his hand, grasping as firmly as she could. She winced as he squeezed back, noting how much stronger he had been getting since he had arrived. His muscles certainly had grown, the knight looking a bit more respectable.

“Let’s say acquaintances. And while I will tolerate you in a group, I will not hang out alone.” Jaune nodded, and a hint of pride filled her voice, “And besides, Neptune is taking me to the dance, so there was no chance regardless.” Weiss was giddy the handsome hunter-in-training had asked her but was surprised by Jaune’s reaction.

A look of pride crossed Jaune’s face, “That’s fine. I’m going with Pyrrha.”

“YOU’RE GOING WITH WHO!?”

Jaune felt like the best man in the world right now. Walking into the dance with Pyrrha on his arm, he couldn’t help but admire her. Her red dress fitted her perfectly, showing off her fit body, and swayed just above her ankles. Her eyeshadow highlighted her green eyes, and her heels made her ass look even more amazing. He was lucky that such a girl cared for him.

Pyrrha looked at her date and hugged him closer. She loved a man in a nice suit, and Jaune filled out his well, especially with his new muscles. It was like she got to show off the man that she was building. His red tie matched her dress, and his dark pants contrasted against the white shirt. The redhead stroked his arm, giddy at everything.

Eyes were on them as they entered the hall. The music radiated through the room, the dance floor decently populated. Pyrrha was a shining star in the hunter world, and mouths hung open as she walked in with her partner. She was long used to these looks, being media trained ever since her first tournament win. Though it seemed Jaune needed that, his blush only hidden by the lights of the hall.

Pyrrha whispered in his ear, “Let’s just find our friends.” Jaune nodded, her words soothing his nerves. Jaune puffed out his chest a bit as he spotted the blonde. Yang was talking with Blake, both of them looking great in white and black respectively. Ruby was talking excitedly to Nora about something while Ren swallowed a drink. A whistle left Yang as she took in the pair.

“Well, aren’t you two fashionably late! Doing something you shouldn’t?” She winked, and the couple both went equally red.

Jaune shook his head, “Pyrrha’s zipper got stuck. I had to tug on it a bit.”

Yang snickered, and Pyrrha defended herself and Jaune, “It was.”

“I bet something got tugged on.” Blake elbowed Yang, who let out a cry of surprise.

“Behave yourself.” Blake sounded like a stern mom, and Yang pouted. The group chatted for a while, watching as the song changed a few times. Others mingled here and there, Weiss and Neptune joining them before moving off on their own. Weiss looked happy, and Jaune only felt a slight twinge of jealousy, but he was sure that was just residual remnants of his crush. ‘She still is an amazing girl.’

The song changed again, and Yang grabbed Blake’s arm, “Come on!” Blake was dragged onto the dance floor, and Sun ended up in that drag, Pyrrha just smiling at her friends.

Jaune looked at Ruby, “Want to join us on the dance floor?”

Ruby rubbed the back of her head, “No it’s ok. I just want to…” Her voice trailed off, looking at something beyond them.

“Are you okay?” Pyrrha’s concern filled Jaune’s heart, and Ruby nodded.

“Yes. Just going to get some air.” Jaune glanced as the short girl walked away. ‘She’ll be fine.’ He grinned as he looked to Pyrrha, “Care to join the dance floor?” The beat was a bit on the heavier side, and Pyrrha just smirked.

“Why don’t you show me what you can do?” It was a bit flirty, a bit forward, but Pyrrha was feeling bold. Jaune whisked her without a second thought, his arm wrapping around her waist as he pulled her to his chest.

“Follow my lead~.” His voice dropped into a very husky and confident tone, and Pyrrha was swept up into the dance. The heat radiated between them as he guided her, her falling into his subtle touches and glances. She may not be a trained dancer like Jaune, but she was just as happy to show off her moves. The touches between them only heated up as he placed his lips inches from hers, only to be pulled away.

Both of them got lost in the increasingly sensual heat. Jaune’s years of training brought out his confident side. His hand trailed down Pyrrha’s side, her hips, her arms. She was swooning as more and more eyes gathered on them, but neither of them cared. It was only the two of them, and Jaune’s heated breath on Pyrrha’s neck left her shaking. Her little sounds drove Jaune on, and he wanted to hear more.

To most, it might look intense. But Jaune and Pyrrha had been training for months. He had learned her movements, and him hers. It was just learning a bit more about each other. The smiles, the touches. Their bond only grew, and as the song reached a climax, Jaune dipped the beautiful redhead, winking before pulling her up to his chest, pressing tight against her as his arm wrapped around her waist. Their lips were inches apart, and Pyrrha could only slightly whimper, unheard by everyone but Jaune.

He leaned into to peck her lips, and she pulled him into a blazing kiss, the height of the passion at its greatest. They broke it after a few seconds, now hearing the sounds of clapping and wolf whistling. The couple looked around to see everyone looking at them, including all of their friends except Ruby. People were taking pictures and Jaune suspected others had recorded this on their scrolls. ‘I’m going to be popular tomorrow. Or hated. Flip a coin.’

Nora was the most excited, while Neptune gave Jaune a grin. Sun gave Jaune a thumbs up as he held Blake, while Yang had a very, very lewd smile. Ren had his usual look, a half-smile on his face as Nora fake fanned herself. Pyrrha was blushing ever deeper. ‘That was even hotter than I expected!’ Her mind was turning, and now she wanted to know how he got that good.

Free from the dance, Jaune’s nerves came back, and he looked into Pyrrha’s eyes, “I’m going to get some air. Want to join me?” She placed her hand on his arm and nodded, attached to him like a magnet.

“I would be honored.” It was so formal, yet Jaune found it kind of romantic, like those old stories he grew up on. They moved through the crowd, and their little show was forgotten for the moment. The music faded as they reached the balcony, the cool air feeling great after that dance. The couple were a bit sweaty, and Jaune leaned against the railing, Pyrrha leaning on his shoulder. Her hair against his cheek tickled, and he rubbed her side gently.

“Not bad for a first date so far.” Pyrrha chuckled, and Jaune groaned playfully.

“It seems I picked the best date first. Don’t hold the rest of them against me.”

The redhead kissed his cheek, “I won’t be too harsh. But thank you. I… You make me happier than I ever dreamed.” Pyrrha knew it was new, and logically things would settle in, but her heart was racing like it never had before. The last time she had a smile this bright was when she won her first tournament.

Jaune didn’t expect those words, looking away in happy embarrassment. He was so worried about fucking everything up, and took a second to think, “You deserve to be yourself. And if that means a hot dance every once in a while, then we can do that.” Jaune pulled her to his chest, wrapping his arms around her waist, “You gave me a chance here. I wish I hadn’t been such an idiot at first. This is the least I owe you, Pyr.”

Pyrrha flicked his nose, “What did I say about insulting yourself?”

“That I just need to catch up. And even you had to start somewhere.” Jaune remembered those words after she started training at night with him, and they had never left.

“Good. And you deserve to be happy too. And if that means kissing me, then do it.” Her voice was a bit husky, and he leaned down after a second, realizing this was an invitation. Now wonder his father said you have to study the woman you love. She met his lips, and unlike those previous kisses, this one was hotter and heavier. Her tongue played with his, and he groaned as her hand gripped his head, messing up his hair, not that he cared.

She tasted so good, and Pyrrha wasn’t doing much better. She didn’t know what it was, but she wanted more, and her hot boyfriend wasn’t saying no. Moans left both of them, his hands pulling her dress up slightly as they kissed until they couldn’t breathe. A line of spit linked them, and Jaune swallowed nervously, “So we can do that more, right?”

“As long as you are my boyfriend.” A slight hitch filled her voice, and he pressed her forehead against hers.

“Then I guess I am.” Pyrrha closed her eyes and was about to kiss him again when a cry came from the door. Nora squealed, and she looked like the cat that had caught the canary.

“Is this going to be a pattern?” Jaune groaned, the heated mood replaced by playful annoyance.

Nora thought for a second, “Maybe.” Maybe meant yes as far as the couple was concerned, but they could plan around that. They killed grimm. Dealing with Nora couldn’t be as hard. Pyrrha broke her embrace, and walked over to Nora, Jaune taking the time to try to fix his hair.

Pyrrha whispered something in Nora’s ear, and the ginger grinned, “Deal!” Jaune walked over to Pyrrha.

“What did you promise her?”

“Don’t worry about it.” Pyrrha had a mischievous smile, and Jaune sighed. He grabbed her hand, intertwining them.

“Why don’t we join our friends? I think we got enough… air.” Pyrrha nodded in embarrassment, and they descended back into the ballroom. There was so much more to do, and now a path lay forward with the two of them, new and shaky.

Notes:

I hope you guys enjoyed it! This is a long favorite pairing, and this came from a long collection of thoughts. Obviously Jaune kind of needed a bump on the head, and I didn’t think there would be “I love yous”. But they are teenagers unaware of what is coming, and now that the pair have months to be together, they can grow and expand. I like canon Arkos, but it was barebones, and I wanted to expand a bit. And Jaune apologizing to Weiss was something I wished had happened in the early seasons.

This is a one shot, but I have ideas for a minor Arkos/JNPR expansion/new fic between season 2 and 3. I would love to see if you guys have interest, but otherwise this is complete. Enjoy!
