Work Text:

The emerald eyes widened at the sudden revelation, holding the positive test in his shaking hands.

This event gave a bitter taste on his lips, followed by a strong impression of deja vu. If everything was blurry for the moment, it was mostly related to the heavy sensation of surprise rising inside his sensitive chest. Izuku Midoriya never thought he would be able to conceive life in the first place, but fate decided to be in his favor. In all honesty, the sudden emotions couldn’t be transcribed into words, being as magical as the charming lyrics in his favorite song.

The freckled man was comfortable with his lifestyle; being quirkless was something natural for him, but this didn't stop his interest in pursuing a career he liked. Nor his desire to be welcomed with genuine smiles and support on his loved ones' faces. Izuku Midoriya will never be the hero adored by the population he used to be, but he has made his peace with those dreams ending. The teacher accepted his fate and was happier than ever to be the source of inspiration on his students' faces, looking at him with amazement and genuine hope for the future in the palms of their hands.

Even if his habits were drenched in monotony, he knew he’d always found his peace when he passed the floor of his isolated house. One of his most cherished habits was to return home to the delicate scent of his favorite food, followed by a quick mumbling from his mate at the mess he caused. A simple glimpse at the broad familiar figure reminded him how far both men had come and how that led to their current happiness.

It started in the most innocent way. The two children hung around town and lost themselves in the neighborhood streets until their naive plans were fooled by their parents long past dusk. It was the first time the boy opened his eyes to face this unexplored part of the world, being as impressive as the crimson eyes staring at him with an unbothered expression on his face. Izuku couldn’t recall the first souvenir he got with his childhood friend, and yet he will always be the most important person in his life; There wasn’t a single day that passed by where the radiant child stopped talking about “Kacchan” being his biggest hero.

Indeed, Katsuki Bakugo was a mystery to unravel. Since his early days, the blond made his thoughts obvious for anyone brave enough to cross his path. He was stubborn enough to reject any form of help from the outside world, even when Izuku's small hands appeared in his vision to ask him if he was alright. It must be why it always intrigued the freckled man to pursue this mesmerizing shadow in his life; After all, he didn’t have any paternal figure and considered All Might as an untouchable idol.  Katsuki Bakugo found himself at the right place with perfect timing, unaware of how this “annoying” fan who kept following him would be the savior of his darkest nights.

At first, his relationship with the blond had been…complicated.

The child, who used to be the center of Izuku’s world, quickly turned into a complex teenager with hidden emotions. Izuku wanted to say he forgave the pain of his middle school years, but he was still haunted by the ghosts of his past. It reminded him how he should be six feet underground instead of this current happiness. Those kinds of dreams were hard to deal with, keeping their existence hidden until a certain point where they forced their way out, as tears fell down his cheeks. Izuku will never forget the day when his husband held his shaking figure in an affectionate embrace, listening to his sobs and explaining how he was safe.

Katsuki was right, their middle school days were far behind them, and yet, both men understood how hidden scars might never heal from this period of their lives.

Naturally, as a naive teenager, he could only be grateful he was given a chance to experience his biggest dream! Without this unexpected rescue mission, maybe Izuku would’ve been a forgotten shadow in the crowd instead of a teacher in the most prestigious high school in Japan. The story so far had been tough, almost killing both him and Katsuki. But the struggles were worth the try if this meant experiencing new beginnings.

The knowledge he gained from his terrifying experiences on the battlefield forged his identity. The narratives might differed from one another, but Katsuki's favorite remained the one trasncribed through Izuku's wasted tears.

The previous distance Katsuki and he had in their teenage years became a distant memory as fate brought them closer., They were reconnected by this invisible string tied between their shattered souls. The beginning of their reunion was largely summarized by rolled eyes, sharp words, and curses spat from Katsuki’s lips, but Izuku seized the occasion to be the perfect rival for a stubborn teenager like Katsuki Bakugo. After all, both boys have known each other since they were in diapers : It would make sense if they were always in agreement, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

They reflected the drastic differences between their worlds, despite sharing the same goal of winning. Slowly but surely, their rivalry transformed into a genuine friendship built on old misunderstandings, apologies, and tears after nights haunted by nightmares. Neither of them complained about this natural twist of fate in their relationship that should have been as fragile as a newborn, but they welcomed each experience as a first.

It caught them both off guard when the rise of romance started to reach their mind and hearts. Izuku made peace with the idea of falling for someone who brought sparkles to his eyes after a terrible nightmare, but Katsuki needed more time to accept this new reality. The thought of not losing Izuku was too frightening to allow himself to love him.

It was their first time falling in love, and he would’ve never thought that anyone could tame the beast that resided within him. The lucky bastard to corrupt the beast turned out to be the only name that resided at the tip of his lips. This period of their life was sparked by specific realizations. The fear of losing such a precious friendship was more frightening than any battlefield, and so was the simple fact that love was something they couldn’t control.

It started with simple gestures, hidden blush, and slight teases under the noses of their friends, who seemed amused by the situation. Everyone in UA knew how Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo had something special, the kind of bond that even words couldn’t transcribe on paper in the most breathtaking poems. The delicateness of the ink used in each of their silenced glances, gentle apologies, and thumbs ruffling each other’s skin succeeded in transforming this simple tale into the most captivating one. If their quirks matched perfectly with their ability to win, their heart reflected the evident changes that opened new possibilities to their dynamic.

The hesitant attempts to hold hands became more delicate once the stars showed their brightest light, watching this heartwarming show. Despite the conflicted feelings inside their chest, their two shadows easily found comfort in each other’s embrace, in this familiar room that became their secret spot. Izuku rested against the blond’s chest, calloused fingers ruffling his messy curls, while Izuku was tearing up in silence, explaining how it should’ve been him, breaking the blond’s heart on the spot. Katsuki Bakugo was hard to read, but there was no doubt Izuku Midoriya was able to distinguish each of his secrets in the blink of an eye. It didn’t stop the shy teenager from holding the taller figure tighter, afraid to wake up next to a lifeless body instead of a teasing grin.

The terrifying frames of his lifeless body on the cold ground reminded him of his luck to be alive, even if Izuku had the impression of being unworthy of this second chance. His heart convinced him to listen to the reassuring words from the golden-haired man, but his reason begged him to pay for the consequences of his crimes. Katsuki couldn’t help but feel powerless at this scene, realizing how he might’ve fallen for his childhood friend a long time ago, under disguised hate during his teenage years.

However, he couldn't deny how much damage he caused to Izuku's youth, due to his selfish actions and the quest for self-growth.

—----------

Little did they know how those unmistakable gestures between them at night would cause the fond memory of their first kiss.

It happened on a summer night, while the fresh wind ruffled their faces, with streets brightened by the lamps, offering a slight ounce of life in this calm building. As always, the calloused hand caressed the omega’s back and realized how their past would always chase after them in different forms, sometimes stronger than the others. The vulnerable shadow of the omega lifted his head, meeting the concerned crimson eyes, who waited until the end of his speech.

“I know how you feel, having the impression of being nothing but an empty shield in a body that doesn’t even belong to you,” Katsuki’s voice echoed in the room.  It had always been hard for him to speak out loud about his truth, but he noticed how Izuku and he became much closer since the apology in the rain, realizing how his savior could wear the same mask that occupied each of his nights since his teenage years. “You want to escape until your soul is nothing but ashes taken away by the wind and forgotten with time. Pretty shitty, but rational to the heavy loss we experienced the last year: It was never your fault, Shigaraki was meant to fall apart since this bastard took control of his body and killed him a long time ago. You did your best, and should realize how breathing the same air as me is one of your biggest achievements.”

“Kacchan…”

“You’ll never escape them, but you can learn to accept their presence and see if things slow down,” he added with a calm expression. A rational person would’ve left a long time ago - and yet, the nerd chose to stand by his side after the horrible things he did. “You just need a reason to hold on a little longer, it might be a person or a thing.”

“Did…Did you find yours ?” Izuku asked with a curious tone, wiping his tears away and holding his breath at the close proximity between them. He knew how this situation might be embarrassing on the outside, but the two teenagers refused to deny this strong bond between them, even if it only found a specific form at night. Indeed, it shouldn’t be any of Izuku’s business to go into the personal aspect of Katsuki’s mindset, but his jealousy caught the blond’s attention, amused by the situation.

“It took me time and I found the person guiding each of my smirks and next victories,” he pointed out, noticing how the freckled man stayed distant from his previous words. Katsuki Bakugo always considered himself unworthy of the love the shorter man was able to offer, but the simple idea of seeing a jealous Izuku melted his heart on the spot. He might not have his chance in this lifetime, but he knew he’d cherish it in the next ones, hoping for a better ending than watching the man he loved move on and have his own family.

“Do I know him ?” Izuku asked with a light mumble, holding the blond’s shirt in an unconscious move. A shade of red colored his freckled cheeks when he realized the huge risk he took with this question. “You know what, forget what I said. It’s none of my business, and if Kacchan succeeds in finding someone he cares about, it’s all that matters to me.”

“You’re a bad liar, freckles,” his voice echoed closer to his sensitive ears, welcoming this delicate song in his bones, and chasing the thorns away, the same ones who let each of his injuries bleed for too long. Callous fingers left the fabric of Izuku’s shirt to move closer to his chin, resting his thumbs against those heated cheeks under a speechless nerd. The atmosphere in the room became distressing, with a fast heartbeat inside their chest, realizing how a simple mistake could change their entire dynamic. “You should work on this issue, but consider yourself lucky. It's one of your charms, to please your curiosity, you know him pretty well…”

“Is this….Kirishima-kun ?” The freckled man asked with a heavy breath, losing his emerald eyes into the crimson ones, amused by the situation. After all, Izuku felt in right to ask such a question when he knew how close both classmates were, even if he hated the jealousy rising inside his chest at this sight. It was stupid, but a part of him wished it was him standing under this close angle, compared to the one they had, even if theirs was stronger than any victories on the battlefield.

“Try again,” the soft voice ruffled his skin, making Izuku chill at the unexpected sensation. It was a sentiment he had never experienced before, and yet, he unconsciously moved his scarred fingers behind the other’s back. If Katsuki felt surprised, he didn’t say anything and stayed in his teasing game, ready to see how far the nerd was willing to go. “Two more tries before giving up, use your brain, nerd.”

“Is this Todoroki-kun ?” Izuku asked, rubbing his thumbs against his neck. His body naturally moved closer, blaming the tiredness and enthusiasm. Knowing the blond, Katsuki had probably something specific in mind, and the freckled man was ready to brave the forbidden to see the outcome of this conversation. “You two make a good match during training sessions and the internship.”

“Wrong, one last try before accepting your defeat, Izuku”, he whispered with a teasing tone, pushing the shorter man by his side. Their eyes searched for those tempting lips, sensing each breath escaping from their lips, now standing a few centimeters from each other. Izuku and Katsuki knew they might regret or feel embarrassed by these actions tomorrow, but the night had already stolen enough secrets, so taking this one to the grave wouldn’t hurt….

“You’re not fair, Kacchan,” the freckled man explained with a slight chuckle that echoed as a melody to the blond’s ears.

Katsuki slowly felt the scarred hands losing themselves in his spiky hair, still hesitant to go further despite their faces being separated by a few centimeters, and eyes focused on each other’s lips, ready to face the consequences of their acts in the early morning. The sexual tension in the room was more obvious than any training they had until now, even their toughest ones. They should thank the night for hiding the blush on their cheeks, even if the gestures betrayed their intentions, as tricky as it might be…

“Is it….” Izuku Midoriya liked the eagerness to play with fire. Don’t get him wrong, he was aware of the possibility of being heartbroken, but his curiosity begged him to take this chance and see if this lust in the crimson eyes was the result of his imagination or his current reality. He lifted his head until his emerald irises met the red ones. Katsuki Bakugo was possessive when it came to his favorite people, and his childhood friend wasn’t the exception to the rules, transcribing his inner thoughts into physical form. “Kacchan, are you talking about me?”

“See, you can be wise when you want, you just need a few hints, freckles,” the alpha confessed with a teasing tone, cupping the freckled cheeks.

The gesture was delicate enough to convince the two teenagers to fix this previous tension, transforming their fears into meaningful actions. Their lips met in a messy kiss, highlighting how it was their first due to the chaotic movements of their mouth, but it didn’t stop them from stepping back and laughing at this situation. Gentle thumbs caressed his porcelain skin, while scarred hands rested closer to the spiky hair before sharing a genuine smile.

Little did they know how this second kiss they exchanged was the beginning of a long line, being as enchanting as the wedding vows they made on the altar.

_______

It didn’t take long until the couple decided to move together to their new apartment after graduation. The fresh adults, who decided to have a fresh start, had their surroundings' support. Izuku will never forget the moment he put his keys in the lock and closed the door, looking at the empty apartment with his boyfriend, who looked at him with a grin on his face.

Living with Katsuki Bakugo wasn’t always easy, but it proved how their bond became stronger. There wasn’t any day passing by when the freckled man wasn’t falling in love with his boyfriend, who always returned the affection with meaningful presents such as flowers, and the most significant one….a wedding ring. They were too young to get married, but it didn’t stop the two men from saving enough money to make the most breathtaking ceremony of the decade, with their teary eyes reciting their vows.

The event was as beautiful as they imagined it, and the years that followed this mesmerizing event guided their two shadows into a cozy routine. Izuku was the loving teacher, while Katsuki saved the day, knowing they were excited to return home and see each other after a long shift. Something was reassuring about seeing their two opposite worlds coming together into one, with Dynamight being the symbol of direct force, and Midoriya sensei the rational one in each circumstance. This slight detail might be meaningless to the most curious eyes, but it represented a huge parallel of their universe, meant to meet in every lifetime.

The couple experienced ups and downs in their dynamic, sometimes leading to harsh truths, but their love remained as intense as the one they expressed during their wedding ceremony. The blond was a perfect lover, gentle husband, and caring partner: It was everything Izuku could’ve asked for yet their narrative took an unexpected turn when amazing news caught their attention.

The arrival of this pup was unexpected, but both men recalled the first time they saw the pregnancy test with the positive result under their eyes. Their faces turned into genuine smiles with a sudden embrace, realizing how they’ll be parents of this wonderful child created as the result of pure love.

Don’t get them wrong, the couple was afraid and took their time to accept the evident changes, preparing the room for their son and sharing the news with their loved ones. If Izuku’s insecurities started to show during different stages of pregnancy, his husband knew the way to convince him to shut the inner voice down, by focusing on his senses and his baby bump. Katsuki was standing by his side at every step, from the morning nausea to the terrifying nightmare of losing their family. Which was revealed to be an early sign of the future tragedy.

It happened on an autumn day. The atmosphere in the house was quiet, and his footsteps echoed with the background noises of the television, playing the frames of their favorite childhood show. The freckled man had his hands wrapped around his exposed baby bump, wearing his maternity clothes, and making conversation with his favorite hero, standing in another room.

Delicate laughs could be heard from afar with the clear appearance of the new season outside their peaceful house, convincing them to enjoy this moment while it lasts. The crimson irises met the emerald ones, softening at the familiar figure who entered the room, ready to steal another kiss, until a severe pain wracked his stomach, while the fear spread the pain through his whole body.. Scarred hands held the fabric of his shirt tighter, begging not to have a miscarriage.

Unfortunately, the simple view of the horrific blood on his legs brought him back to his cruel reality. The last thing he remembers was holding onto the taller man and begging to save their pup at all costs, before passing out due to the insurmountable stress. The situation worsened when he woke up in a cold hospital room with walls as white as the pale expression on his face when the doctor announced the tragic news.

Indeed, the only emotions the freckled man recalled at this moment were the intense pain pulsing in his chest as tears fell down his cheeks. Katsuki did his best stay focus on his main priority : Comforting his mate, despite the devastating sobs echoing in the room. He was terrified by the idea of being powerless in a situation like this one, especially when Izuku's scarred fingers clutched the fabric of his shirt tighter, a sob escaped as the new reality sank in.

After staying a few days at the hospital to check the omega’s state, the couple had permission to return home. The ride to their house was as silent as a cemetery during a funeral, and just as bleak. Katsuki caught the scarred hands of his mate holding the fabric of his clothes tight enough to discolor his knuckles. It was a coping mechanism the freckled man started to have after the awakening at the hospital, breaking his husband's heart, who already missed the smile on his lover's face. The grief was evident in his exhausted eyes, such as the bags appearing on this fragile skin, that used to welcome gentle laughs at the tip of his lips. When their footsteps echoed in the empty house, the blond tried to let his lover rest on the couch after this traumatizing experience, knowing things would never be the same after this important loss that was supposed to be their new beginning.

The freckled man simply nodded and stayed silent, obeying his husband’s recommendation without a tease like he used to do. The next months had been the worst with Izuku being a lifeless version of himself, losing his colors, waking up with dry tears against his cheeks, and Katsuki doing his best to change his mate’s mind. The blond had never seen his lover in such a state, but he felt guilty for not being able to protect his family, especially when the scarred hands held his husband’s shirt tighter and kept apologizing with heartbroken sobs. This naive gesture that became their soft spot in their youth transformed into a darker place where their shaking figures held each other, with sobs filling the bedroom.

It took them years to accept the idea that their first child would never see the light of day. Izuku blamed himself for letting such a thing happen since he was the one at the origin of this tragedy. In his eyes his body should've handled this pregnancy a little longer, instead of being the reason of his tears, and maybe a small cry would’ve resonated in this house at the exact moment. Everyone in his surroundings told him that it wasn’t his fault and would never be, even Katsuki, who realized how he lost a part of his soul in the process.

They both counted on each other during this slow healing process, hoping they’d find a smile back on their faces, despite having a butterfly tattooed on their wrist, in honor of their child, who was probably in a better place now. However, the couple did cherish each moment they spent with this precious unborn pup, who represented their everything, such as the baby’s room that became a guest one.

Many years had passed since the accident, and the married couple finally gained smiles back on their faces. This topic was forgotten, except when someone asked about the meaning of their mutual tattoo: Izuku and Katsuki succeeded in finding peace in their rhythm, facing the worst of obstacles, and being stronger than ever. Imagine the freckled man's surprise when he decided to buy a pregnancy test, sensing familiar symptoms…

———-

Izuku wanted to be relieved by the news, but the only sensation crossing his vulnerable chest was the same pain that stabbed him in the back during this fateful autumn day.

His hands immediately wrapped themselves around this nonexistent belly, reminding him of the clothes he kept hidden in the wardrobe. He remembered the pain of not being enough to save this child, who didn’t ask for such a fate, the bleeding on this parquet, and the fear of losing half of his soul. There wasn’t any day passing by where the omega wasn’t thinking about this pup that would’ve been 5 years old today, knowing he was still alive inside his parents’ hearts, despite not being by their side.

Izuku Midoriya never had the chance to be a dam, realizing how it had been stolen against his will in the worst circumstances: He was ready for the ups and downs of this new beginning, but the toys started to take dust in the garage, such as the reminder of the positive memories about the ‘what ifs”.

Izuku wanted to love this second child as much as he adored the first one: Creating a bond with this pup residing inside his bump, being excited to see the light of day, and sharing his first everything. He convinced himself it would be fine to raise this one without any guilt, but a suffocating thought corrupted his attempts at reassurance. The inner voices reminded him how he failed the first time, and raising this second child would be considered a betrayal of the first child, who never had the chance to grow up. Tears fell down his cheeks, ruining his porcelain skin, putting his head behind his knees, and letting his sobs echo in the entire house.

His insecurities became unbearable, convincing him that he’d never be enough, and yet, a sudden sound caught his attention. The freckled man lifted his head to meet the lost toy in the corner of the room, taking dusk. Katsuki probably left this poor pacifier on the floor when he moved the boxes belonging to their child in the past years. His fingers grabbed the object in the palm of his hand and brushed the dust away, even if it was pretty nasty to see. A quick wash of water was necessary to let it be as clean as the first day, standing under the shaking hands, catching the freckled man off guard.

Forgotten memories draw themselves as a breathtaking painting under his eyes. Izuku pet the fabric of the pacifier with his delicate thumbs, recalling a dream he had often during his first pregnancy; The sweet vision of his newborn resting in his pram was the first detail that caught his attention, while his body naturally moved closer to the sleeping baby to cover him with a blanket. The tiny pup rested peacefully, holding a Dynamight plushie in his chubby hand, with his messy blonde curls just like Izuku's, but the bright red eyes mirrored the mesmerizing gaze of his alpha's. The sleeping figure reflected the genuine innocence in each of his movements, especially with the slight chubby fingers moving to meet the air, searching for something or someone to grab.

Izuku midoriya didn’t need to think twice before realizing how this vulnerable child before him was his son.

His fingers closed around the pacifier as his vision became blurry from the onslaught of tears. His worries faded away and he finally felt at ease that his son was in a better place and would’ve probably looked this beautiful, especially with his parents’ genetics. He never took the time to think about the past since the accident, and yet, those memories offered a delicate tone to his shattered heart. After all, his beloved Kazuo was at peace, knowing he was loved by his parents until his last heartbeat in the womb….

Izuku smiled as he rested his hands against his stomach, accepting this turn of fate. After fate decided to put a strong obstacle in his path, it wouldn’t stop the teacher from accepting this occasion to fix his unhealed scars that became ones with the thrones and bleeding injuries inside his chest. At this moment, his eyes took a quick glimpse at the plastic mumbling a delighted “thanks” to the stars observing this scene, knowing he would be forever grateful for this second chance.

Don’t get him wrong, the omega was aware of the chance of messing things up, but he knew this news would brighten his husband’s face, who suffered from enough damage after the loss of their first child. Izuku always knew his childhood friend would make an amazing father, and he was excited to see the blond’s reaction to the news!

—---

Katsuki Midoriya was conscious of his limits, and yet, he admitted how a part of his soul faded away when he heard those unfortunate words :

“We’re sorry for your loss.”

That day, the alpha contained his tears and tried to stay strong for his lover, who suffered the most from this tragedy. However, he naturally welcomed the tears when he held the shaking omega into his arms, letting him know how this pain was mutual. Dynamight was admired for being an inspiring hero in the ranks, but one knew how Katsuki lost its sparkle the moment he left the hospital with his heartbroken mate, forced to live in a haunted room, full of untouched books and plushies. This situation had been very hard for him, who tried to push away those negative feelings and be there by his husband’s side, even when the alpha had difficulties controlling his breakdown!

The golden-haired man simply accepted this loss as time passed by, leaving an evident emptiness inside his chest despite the smirk he made to his childhood friend. Katsuki had always admired Izuku’s secret fights, keeping his suffering hidden until it became too heavy to handle. He was happier than ever to see the first smile catching his husband’s face after so many wasted tears, recalling how this day nearly made him cry with happiness.

Izuku Midoriya was the strongest person he knew, and he couldn’t be happier to marry someone as amazing as his childhood friend. There wasn’t a day passing by where the freckled man didn’t seduce his vulnerable heart with a delicate melody that echoed as a lullaby to his ears. Slowly but surely, the previous chapters, ruined by their tears, ended up being replaced by fond memories, transformed into black pages with this indelible ink that recites their narrative.

After completing his final report at the agency and making a last checkup of the area, he decided to return home. He missed the nerd and his stupid smile, welcoming him every time his shadow appeared in the room as if they hadn’t seen each other in a while. Those gestures must be stupid but meaningful enough to give another reason to survive, especially after everything they’ve been through. His shadow left the main town to enter a forgotten neighborhood, as his car found its casual emplacement before walking closer to the familiar house.

The cold keys met the lock, his calloused hands opening the handle to meet a familiar landscape. As soon as he opened the door to see an empty hall, he knew something was wrong. After all, Katsuki Bakugo wasn't a man of habits, but he wouldn't mind being welcomed by the love of his life, with his stupid smile at the concert of his lips, highlighting the distinct form of his freckles. Those greetings became their favorite moments of the day as the years passed by, knowing someone was waiting for them outside their redundant work. His instincts warned him to calm down, but his heart started to think about the worst scenarios. He called out Izuku’s name loud enough to resonate throughout the house until the omega returned his call in the next seconds. Katsuki sighed, regaining his breath while putting his bag down on the wooden table. He moved to the bathroom and immediately noticed his husband’s state.

He knew his childhood friend had always been sensitive, and tearing up had been the easiest way to express the repressed sadness and emotions he kept hidden for too long. Katsuki never blamed him for choosing this sincerity in each of his glances and often teased him about this detail he considered a quality of his heart. However, the blond succeeded in discovering different kinds of tears through the years, and if he adored the happy ones, he felt powerless against the bitter ones that ruined his porcelain skin. His heart missed a beat when he noticed the shorter man on the ground, head resting against his knees, with small sobs resonating through the walls of this house, who welcomed each of their tender reunions.

His knees meet the cold parquet, ignoring the uncomfortable temperature against his body. He lost his calloused hand in the messy curls to catch his attention, until teary emerald eyes met his, before making a slight smile at the corner of his lips. Katsuki had many questions to ask, residing at the tip of his lips, but he slowly welcomed the delicate “Kacchan”, leaving Izuku’s mouth before accepting this welcoming embrace.

The taller man didn’t question his current state, holding the shorter figure closer to him. He was afraid of losing his precious happiness in the blink of an eye, and yet, he knew he was at home when the freckled man’s chuckle caressed his ears. Shit, the world might be doomed for considering Dynamight as a simp, but Katsuki Midoroya was ready to take the world down for a glimpse of his childhood friend’s smile, being the most important treasure at the palm of his hands. His delicate thumbs met the chubby cheeks, cupping this skin to wipe the tears away and kiss his lover’s forehead.

“You look like shit, are you alright ?” He simply asked with a teasing tone that barely covered his genuine concerns. Izuku was able to read in his eyes like an open book, touched to see his childhood friend’s devotion, even after all the mess they’d been through. There was no doubt this pup would be the happiest, especially with caring parents like them, and probably the most spoiled person their neighborhood had seen. “I thought we agreed to not watch this movie again, you always know they’ll meet at the end despite their stupid amnesia.”

“Don’t blame me for being sensitive to love stories like theirs,” replied the shorter man with an amused tone, resting his head against his lover’s chest. Izuku couldn’t believe how the couple succeeded in finally making their biggest wish come true: This second child would never be like their first one, but he deserved to have the same love as his sibling. “I was feeling bad and needed to make a quick check.”

“Are you alright? You should get some rest if you feel sick, I’ll make your favorite soup, like the old days,” the taller man replied with a smirk, pinching the other’s nose. Izuku simply smiled at the gesture, holding the pacifier in the palm of his hands and the pregnancy test behind his back. He knew it was risky, but didn’t even know when his heart missed a beat, but he decided to directly announce the news instead of making his poor husband worry about his state.

“I’m fine, I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy,” he mumbled, catching the hero’s attention, who simply looked at him with raised eyebrows. Izuku Midoriya was full of surprise, but it was also a part of his charm, especially his ability to steal anyone’s heart on the spot with a radiant smile as the one crossing his lips. The crimson eyes moved his head to meet the sudden objects inside his hands until a sudden silence filled the room.

Katsuki had already experienced thousands of battlefields with villains trying to get a reaction from him, but had already experienced thousands of battles where his rival was ready to go far to make him speechless and exhausted. Yet none compared to the sudden rise of emotions inside his chest. The sentiments and recognition offered this ounce of victory his broken heart needed since their first loss, healing some of his inner scars when his glance caught the positive pregnancy test and the beloved object that rested here as a relic of their past. He recalled the terrifying frames of the bleeding on the floor, the sobs in the rooms, and their shadows moving the baby’s room into a guest one. The calloused hands held the plastic closer to this brushed skin, welcoming delicate fingers wiping his tears away.

Teary emerald eyes met the crimson ones, being in the worst conditions for this kind of announcement, but they didn’t care. The freckled man smiled, losing his thumbs behind the blond’s ears and admiring the beauty of this scene: Katsuki Bakugo was a mystery to solve, from his emotional constipation to the clear progress he made in his self-growth.

Everyone who knew the blond from a close angle can easily admit how he became happier since he accepted his weaknesses, instead of pushing them aside until they killed him from the inside. One of his biggest strengths was his ability to put his untold confessions into the most captivating gestures: Izuku always cherished those moments when his husband’s body took the lead to release his genuine emotions, no matter if it was through possessive gestures or mesmerizing tears falling down his cheeks.

Seeing the great Dynamight sobbing at the news was proof of their devoted affection for each other, being their biggest source of courage in the toughest battles. After all, he had been there the entire time to stand by his childhood friend’s side, and yet, he simply accepted the request of being at the other’s mercy, even when fate decided to go against their happiness. Katsuki begged for this miracle, and yet, he found himself overwhelmed by genuine joy toward fate for this second chance.

“Is this real ?” He simply asked, hearing his husband laugh at the question. The delicate fingers wiped the salty tears away from the blond’s cheeks, admiring his ethereal beauty: Katsuki looked at him with the same adoring expression he shared on the altar during their wedding vows. Izuku couldn’t help but tear up at this reality that hit him like a slap in the face: they made it. Their adventures had been as chaotic as their relationship, but sharing this first kiss most innocently started this unstable journey that charmed more than one curious eye in the crowd.

“If it’s a dream, don’t wake me up,” the freckled man replied. Their shaking figures will need more time to accept it wasn’t one of their fever dream with unreachable illusions, but they were convinced the rest of the pregnancy would be as intense as the unexpected announcement. “We’re going to be parents again…. you’re going to be a dad, love.”

“Shit, I begged the stars for this blessing, I’ll be eternally grateful for giving us a second chance,” he mumbled in his beard, losing himself at the delicate hands cupping his cheeks. Their glances expressed this mutual fear of losing this blessing a second time, especially with the existence of this rainbow child. “We’re going to be the best parents, I love you so much-”

“I love you too,” the freckled man smiled, his lips meeting the blond’s to steal a gentle kiss. Scarred fingers wrapped themselves behind his husband’s neck, resting his forehead against the other’s shoulders while using his free hand to guide the calloused one into his nonexistent baby bump. This impression of deja-vu melted their heart, realizing how they’ll cherish this second chance and protect this child:  After all, maybe this brat was the savior they needed all along, transcribed into those unreachable pages that needed to be discovered by their future self.

Hours passed by in the blink of an eye, as their two shadows could be seen offering a tender embrace with tender praise while posing how much they loved each other between two chuckles. This impression of deja vu warmed their hearts, slowly healing from these inner scars, who’ll never forget their first pregnancy, but we’re ready to accept this fortune. Their misery had been heard by the stars, who gave them this chance to raise this child born of true love, repressing the savior the two men needed all along. Don’t get them wrong, Izuku was afraid, such like Katsuki, who wanted to make things right!

This time, the couple wanted to say goodbye to their guest room, and give it back to a new owner, who’ll represent this second chance, being as breathtaking as the butterflies reaching their garden from afar.
