Cicadas chirping and the gentle lap of waves against the sandy shore are the only sounds that fill the night.
Above, clouds blot out a low hanging moon and a smattering of stars.
Below, a gentle hand clasps over a tattooed one in a gesture of support. Two sit, side by side, gazes fixed on the light floating further out on the lake.
Isagi Yoichi watches the burning candle intently. Michael had insisted on him coming, though Yoichi does not know what to do.
“It’s supposed to help,” Kaiser mutters. “She would’ve been 47 this year. An old hag.”
His boyfriend turns to peer at him in the darkness. Isagi senses his lidded gaze even as he sees little. As the memorial lantern slips away, so to does the mood.
”She left me with him and I hate her.” Kaiser confesses airily, as if reciting the weather.
”Yeah,” Isagi whispers back, squeezing, and he feels his heart crack open in his chest.
