Chapter Text
Not many people in Hogwarts, or at least in Slytherin, have the right kind of charm.
You know, the kind that draws everyone’s attention in the room with ease. Not to intimidate, or strike fear in the hearts, but something… comforting. Something to look forward to. It's almost sweet.
Very rarely does Slytherin ever have these traits, seeing as the house is known to be more of a… dark type.
Not many people bother to look past the clover-green and silver of the snake’s den.
Good.
Hogwarts doesn’t deserve this particular songbird of theirs.
----
“Haven’t you heard? Slytherin’s got themselves a performer”
“A Songbird , they call it.”
“Is that why they seem… livelier than usual? Less harsh, too.”
“They all gush about it, yet they don’t say a word.”
“How strange. Any clues who it might be?”
“None. Slytherins were tight-lipped.”
“I want to see the Songbird myself!”
“Tough luck. The Songbird only comes out at Slytherin parties. It’s hard enough getting in their common rooms, I heard it’s even harder for other houses to get invited to a party.”
“A shame, really… who could it be?”
Sirius Black have heard the whispers of the people behind him in potions. Songbird in Slytherin, yeah right, that's impossible. None of those slimy snakes could sing if their lives depended on it. Well, except Wilhelm Wilkes in the choir, but he's definitely not as good as people make him out to be.
Besides, the Songbird being Wilkes is impossible, seeing as he can barely keep a secret. He doesn't even look like he knows who this Songbird character is.
He already knows who among the Slytherins can and can't sing. Obviously, that greasy git isn't one of them. They had a little singing icebreaker back in third year. Snivellus absolutely botched his attempt. Sirius didn't even consider it.
Of course, a few seats away, sat Snivellus himself. He didn't seem to care much about this Songbird. Evans chatted his ear off about it.
"Sev, you're in Slytherin," he heard her say, "why can't you tell me who the Songbird is?"
"Because, Lily, everyone swore not to tell." Said Snivellus, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "You know how the Slytherins get if someone betrays a house rule."
Evans had her back turned, but Sirius could tell she was pouting at him by the way Snivellus shifted his head away. "Don't give me that look either. I'm not about to snitch." He said, seemingly unphased.
She sighed. "Why are they so secretive, anyway? It's not like anyone outside Slytherin can even see or hear them, with your parties being hard to access and all. Can't even sneak muggle cameras in."
The bat shrugged. "I heard someone say it was because he was shy or something. Maybe adds to the mystery."
"And a mystery we shall solve." Sprouted a new voice beside him--- James. He had the same grin on his face every time Evans walks in the room. "Who knows? I've been planning on breaking in the Slytherin common rooms one way or another anyway. Maybe the Songbird is just Snivellus forced to dance like a chicken."
Sirius didn't care much about the Songbird either, but he did find the thrill of catching the Songbird interesting.
