Work Text:

He wanted to be regaling Felix with heroic tales of blasting a helicopter out of the sky with a rocket launcher but Wolfgang wasn't good at telling stories and he couldn't even bring himself to talk at all. He just crawled into his friend's hospital bed and sobbed and left Rajan to be the one to fill Felix in on what had happened.

Kala was in surgery and he couldn't reach her, couldn't feel her, that same black void that ripped through him when he thought she was dead. And she wasn't there to cry for him like she had the first time Felix got shot, to feel his fear for him like she had when he faced certain death at his uncle's house. His whole cluster was with him instead, Will and Riley in Diego's room, Sun with her detective getting his stitches replaced, the rest of them in the waiting room anxious for updates from the team of surgeons. They were feeding off each other, each of them terrified, bracing for another round of the pain that had already happened, mourning a loss they'd never recover from that was temporarily frozen in time.

She'd still been awake when they'd arrived at the hospital, holding onto both his and Rajan's hands. Wolfgang told himself he was okay when they took her away from them; when Will came over to gently coax his gun out of his grasp in case she didn't make it; when Rajan prayed in the temple and later broke down on the phone with her parents. Wolfgang stood there stoically comforting him, a man who'd flown halfway around the world to be with a wife who was in love with someone else. Who'd nearly died in their arms.

They'd held each other's hands waiting for updates. Wolfgang wasn't even sure who had reached for who, or if they'd done it at the same time. Felix was already at the hospital when they arrived and news of his recovery came first. Rajan stayed at Wolfgang's side, his connection to Kala, following him to Felix's room and doing the talking for him even when he didn't really know what was going on.

Wolfgang took a deep breath and closed his eyes as Felix stroked his hair, letting himself flicker between each member of his cluster for some relief even as they felt the same pain he did. Riley provided the most solace, a strength in grief that surpassed his; Sun brought him calm; Capheus, hope.

Lito excused himself from Hernando and Dani where they were clutching each other, Dani holding Nomi's hand. He rinsed his face in the bathroom on his way to Felix's room, rolling his shoulders and doing his vocal warmups. And then he performed not one but two epic rocket launcher sagas to distract the three of them.

Wolfgang nodded his thanks while Rajan asked "are we all going to prison?" and Felix asked "why am I always the one sucking cock?" Both of them were still comforting him even while their attention was on Lito, Rajan with his hand on Wolfgang's back while he cuddled against Felix's uninjured side. His best friend and his soulmate's husband, the only two men outside of his cluster who'd seen him cry and lived to tell.

His head was pounding and then suddenly he felt light and dizzy, hearing Rajan call his name like he was far away, to grab hold of him to steady him on the bed like he'd fall off but he wasn't there anymore. Kala's fingertips touched his and called him to her before she was even fully awake from the anesthesia, floating in her own bed herself, her eyes still closed.

He was too busy hugging her to hear what she said, and then too busy kissing her mouth for her to say it again but their mental connection caught up soon enough. “You didn’t listen to me.”

"What?" he sniffled. Subconsciously he still expected to get punished for crying, but now that she was awake he wasn't scared of it anymore. He wasn't scared of anything.

"I had an idea," she said weakly. "And you and Will just talked right over me like typical men.”

What? When?

Kala pouted. “Bak Gala.”

You’re bringing that up now?” he scoffed. The Bak Gala was a month ago. And it wasn't like they hadn't gone through with her idea, considering she grabbed a gun and started firing before giving them a choice in the matter. In hindsight, she probably did that because he and Will were in fact talking over her. Scheisse.

She scrunched up her face with as much fury as she could manage in her current state which was just about the cutest she’d ever looked.

Wolfgang couldn't help but laugh which he knew was never the right response when a woman was pissed at you, especially a woman who'd been harboring that resentment enough to bring it up immediately after surgery. Fortunately she was too out of it to notice. “I’m sorry. It was a really great idea. I should’ve listened to you. And it was hot.”

"It was." With a high on drugs I-was-right-you-were-wrong expression, she smiled to herself. "Apology accepted I forgive you."

He kissed her forehead. He was surprised it had taken her this long to ream him over that, but things had been pretty crazy since then. "Thank you. I won't do it again."

"I changed my mind about Joong-Ki I think we should kill him I'm used to it now."

In what was a first for him, Wolfgang actively redirected any thoughts of killing their enemies. "I think we should probably wait to make any more murder plans until the anesthesia wears off."

"We should produce this stuff it's great!"

He smiled. Kala on drugs wasn't something he ever thought he'd see but he was here for it. "I'm pretty sure you already do."

She attempted to call out for Rajan through him but wasn't quite able to focus enough for sharing. Lito must've filled them in since Rajan was watching him expectantly instead of trying to revive him when he returned with her to Felix's room.

Rolling over to mimic Kala's position in bed and make it easier for her to visit, Wolfgang took Rajan's hand so she could feel him too. "She's awake. You can talk to her if you want."

Rajan nodded hesitantly, but his eyes were already glistening with fresh tears and by then no one was really questioning how weird this whole situation was. "How are you, my wife?"

Felix snickered. "Meine Frau?"

"Shut up," Wolfgang said in German through Lito. They were having a moment and now was not the time to revisit the multiple other occasions Rajan had inadvertently referred to him as his wife.

Kala called Rajan her husband, also in German, and giggled over it. Wolfgang laughed too, then relayed the rest of her message: "Rajan, we should give general anesthesia away to anyone who wants it this is so nice we can put it in our pool."

He opened his mouth to respond, then closed it again when Wolfgang shook his head. While he had the presence of mind to say no to the murder plans she shouldn't make while high, Rajan might've said yes to the business and recreational ones.

"They're bringing me juice!" Kala exclaimed, forgetting about everything else.

"We'll let you know as soon as the doctor gives the okay to visit," Nomi said from the waiting room. "Physically."

Wolfgang nodded, watching with the greatest admiration as the unspeakably brilliant woman he loved required assistance with a plastic straw. "She might need a few minutes."

"But she's okay?"

"She woke up mad at me over something I did a month ago." He grinned proudly. "It was really fucking cute."

Rajan laughed and shook his head. "That's our Kala." They were still holding hands.
