Who wouldn’t?

Summary:

It’s a no brainer that half of the citizens in hedgehog village have a crush on Sonic. Even a certain black hedgehog.

First fanfic! Criticism is greatly appreciated. But I am also sensitive so go easy on me haha

Work Text:

Sonic is not humble when it comes to how admirable he thinks he is.

He’s had many girls come up to him and outright flirt with him, not to mention the obviously love-sick Amy and flirtatious smirks and winks from Stacy and Percy. He knew he was just that dude, and he wasn’t afraid to boast about it.

Nobody could really blame the guy for being cocky about it either. If any normal guy had every girl in the village giggling like a broken record at the mere eye contact they made with him, He too would bask in the attention.

On a particularly sunny day, Shadow decided to attack again after a while. From what it seemed, he didn’t quite have a plan, just felt like causing havoc. And of course, Sonic was the only person who could walk up to the hedgehog and punch him. His own team cowered in fear and ran off screaming when they saw Shadow.

To rub salt onto the wound, Eggman showed up and sent an army of robots to attack Sonic’s friends while Sonic was busy with Shadow. Could this day get any worse? Sonic just wanted to eat meh burger takeout and lounge on his couch all day.

Sonic could see from the corner of his eyes his friends fighting the robots and occasionally getting hurt, and he couldn’t help but grit his teeth. He was knocked out of his thoughts when Shadow threw a hard punch to his pretty face. How dare he?

Sonic groaned and sent Shadow a punch back, but the hedgehog dodged it and continued tumbling onto the ground, trying to pin down Sonic.

“I don’t get it, you have no reason to end the world!” Sonic grumbled, finally getting the upper hand and pinning Shadow down. Unfortunately, Shadow’s knee collided with his stomach, making him double down in pain and giving enough time for Shadow to push him off and get up again.

“It’s because I can,” He sneered, chaos controlling behind Sonic and throwing a kick. Surprisingly, Sonic was able to dodge it by ducking down.

Sonic groaned for the 50th time that day. He turned to Shadow and glared at him. “All this edgy talk yet you’re barely as fast as me,” He boasted, earning a scoff from Shadow.

“Is that so?” He asked, his voice a dangerous growl.

“Come and get me, ultimate loser.” Sonic grinned, running off. Shadow huffed, following behind as he tried to catch up.

Sonic looked back over his shoulder, sticking out a childish tongue at the stoic hedgehog before running off to the outskirts of the island.

Shadow couldn’t help but skate faster and more furiously at the mocking gesture.

“Still behind me, huh?” Sonic called out, occasionally looking back at Shadow. Shadow didn’t answer but instead jumped and tackled Sonic onto the ground. Sonic gasped in pain and surprise, pushing Shadow off of him and getting up.

“Hey, what gives?!” Sonic frowned.

Shadow simply shrugged, a smirk threatening to tug on his lips at Sonic’s annoyance. He calmly stood up, dusting the dirt off of him. “I caught up to you.”

Sonic snarled, giving Shadow a back-handed slap. Shadow almost gasped at the sassy gesture.

“You’re not even all that! Why are you so set on attacking me?” Sonic said, crossing his arms.

Shadow let out a hmph, taking a step closer. “What do you think?” He rolled his eyes.

“You’re a loser who has no friends?” Sonic mocked, earning a punch to his nose. His hand flew up to his nose, and when he pulled it away, he felt blood dripping down.

“So disrespectful,. Shadow tsked. “I just like spending time with you,” He scoffed, his tone still rough and annoyed, a complete contrast to his words.

“…What?” Sonic stuttered.

“You heard me.” Shadow crossed his arms. “Who wouldn’t like to spend time with you?”

Sonic let out a laugh, hunching over and placing his hands on his knees for support. Once he finally calmed down, his head tilted up. “Is this like a tactic?”

“Get it through your skull, Sonic. I like you. Deal with it.” He growled, his tanned muzzle turning a slight dark red at his own admission. “I like your stupid jokes and your face, and there’s nothing you could do about it.”

“Huh?” Sonic‘s face flushed, staring at Shadow like he just admitted to enjoying comedy chimps jokes.

”We’ll meet again, Sonic. On my terms,” He spoke in a matter-of-fact tone before warping away.

Sonic blinked, his face flushing harder. He felt his heart stutter for a moment. He didn’t think he’d ever see Shadow in that view. He shook his head, internally slapped himself for acting surprised and quickly straightened his back. He expected this, yeah. Totally. Who wouldn’t want to be with him, right?
