“How did this happen?” Tatsumi burst out in exasperation, covering his face with his hands as he sighed.

He and Toujou had just arrived at their hotel room after coming directly from the airport, they were here in Miyagi for a business trip and the travel had been tiring. Tatsumi was looking forward to crashing immediately when they got to their room. But now that he sees they only had one bed in the room he has to solve this issue first before they could turn in for the night.

“Sorry about this Toujou-kun, I swear I booked a room with two beds. I’ll go talk to the front desk and see if they can switch our room with another.”

“I don’t mind. And you can drop the formalities Tatsumi. It’s just the two of us here.” Toujou’s voice was suddenly close and Tatsumi finds himself wrapped in the arms of his partner, back touching Toujou’s chest, hands resting on his navel area.

“Are you sure sharing one bed is ok Iori?” Despite his doubt Tatsumi allowed the proximity, too tired to complain, relaxing into the embrace, and laying a hand over Toujou’s own.

“Yeah, it’s fine. It’s not like we haven’t done it before.” There’s that teasing tone again.

“You pulling me into your hospital bed that one time does not count.” Tatsumi chuckled despite himself.

              “It should totally count.”

              “It doesn’t.”

“Come on, sharing a bed isn’t that bad.” Toujou coaxed, placing an affectionate kiss on Tatsumi’s cheek.

“I’m not saying it’s bad. It’s just awkward to do during a business trip.”

“Oooh.” Toujou’s extended tone implied that he had just come to a realization. A smirk plasters itself on his lips, prompting him to hold Tatsumi tighter and he whispers salaciously into the older man’s ear. “I promise not to jump you while we share the same bed.”

Tatsumi snorted a laugh at that. He releases himself from Toujou’s grasp only to swiftly turn around and cup Toujou’s face, smiling slyly. “You promised, ok?” Then he tiptoes a little in order to place a kiss right on Toujou’s lips, winking good-humoredly before stepping back and heading to the bathroom with his suitcase in tow. “Let’s prepare for bed then.”

“That’s unfair Tatsumi!” Toujou whined, face flushed and heart pounding at the playful tease, secretly wanting more than just a kiss. But even as a light joke Toujou didn’t want to make it awkward during this trip, it is mainly for work after all.

He can hold himself back. He has self-control.

That self-control was immediately tested when Tatsumi came out of the bathroom with a bathrobe on, loosely tied to allow the cloth movement even with the smallest action, showing a glimpse of his clavicles and chest if he leaned a bit too far forward. Toujou was aware that Tatsumi was doing this to tease him but the blonde can’t deny that it was working on him.

There’s a glint of mischief in those dark eyes as Tatsumi climbs onto the bed with the speed of a tortoise, robe riding up slightly and showing more of his bare legs. Toujou feels his brain short circuit, staring at pale skin, throat becoming dry, he swallows to wet his parched mouth.

“I-I’ll go get changed.” Toujou smoothly avoided the temptation by heading to the bathroom next with his change of clothes in hand. He doesn’t miss Tatsumi’s tittering laughter as he makes his way to safety.

By the time Toujou had washed up and wore his plain black pajamas, he was slightly surprised to see that Tatsumi was fast asleep on the bed. The older man was comfily covered with the blanket and snuggled into a pillow. It seems the long trip had tired him out more than Toujou expected. Toujou silently approaches the bed and sits close to his partner, watching as Tatsumi’s chest softly rose and fell with the calm of sleep, face slack and relaxed.

Toujou’s heart clenched at how peaceful Tatsumi appeared, he hadn’t expected to be enthralled to see Tatsumi sleep so soundly in the same bed as him. The circumstance encourages the blonde to reach out a hand, gently brushing away lavender strands from Tatsumi’s face. As he watched his boyfriend sleep, Toujou feels a deep yearning settle in his chest. Seeing Tatsumi here beside him resting without any worries makes Toujou want a repeat of this. He doesn’t want this to be a onetime thing. However, he’ll have to discuss that with Tatsumi after they both get some sleep.

Affection never leaving, Toujou leaned down and placed a gentle kiss as soft as downy feathers on Tatsumi’s cheek, careful not to wake his beloved. And after that Toujou tucked himself in for the night, comfortably resting beside Tatsumi, and sleep comes easy like a fluffy cloud enveloping him and carrying him away to dream land. The last thing he sees is Tatsumi’s sleeping face.

Morning came without a rush, Tatsumi was the first one to awaken into the new day, well rested after last night’s sleep. Tatsumi checked the wall clock, refusing to move from his warm spot unless he really needed to. The numbers showed that it was still 8 AM. They didn’t have anything scheduled until 11 AM so they had a good buffer before they needed to start the day. Tatsumi yawned, burrowing deeper into the bedding before noticing that he had an arm resting around his hip. It shocked him for a bit before he remembered that he and Toujou were currently sharing a bed.

Based on the unmoving and lax hand, Tatsumi surmises that his partner was still asleep. Curious to see Toujou’s sleeping face, Tatsumi carefully wiggled around and turned to face Toujou. Instead of the drooling mess Tatsumi was expecting, the older man was met with an angelic sleeping face, blonde hair only slightly mussed up, but that only added to how handsome Toujou was. Even the sunlight that filtered past the gap in the curtain cast a warm glow on Toujou’s sleeping form that made it seem like he was an ethereal being blessed by the gods themselves. He was so effortlessly pretty that it simply wasn’t fair.

Tatsumi was content to watch Toujou sleep for a while before a twitch from the hand still resting on his hip caught his attention. Dark eyes trail down and sees that it was Toujou’s scarred hand, and without thinking too much about it Tatsumi lowered his own hand and touched the blemished skin, tracing the bumps and irregularities left behind by the scarification from the accident. He remembers Toujou telling him that he can still sometimes feel a burning or tingling sensation from time to time, even if the wound has already healed the aftermath wasn’t perfect. His skin will never be the same again.

But Tatsumi didn’t find a problem with that. This scar among others that Toujou had was proof that the younger man was a fighter and a survivor. Coming out from a crash like that and healing from it was no easy feat, Tatsumi had been there for every doctor’s visit after Toujou had been discharged from the hospital, every physical therapy session, and all the other processes that Toujou had to go through to get back to a normal life. The scars were a testament of Toujou’s strength and perseverance. Tatsumi would never look at the scars as ugly, instead they were precious, a representation that Toujou was alive and well. Here with Tatsumi.

Tatsumi doesn’t know when he’d gotten so sappy and philosophical so early in the morning. But the more he looks at Toujou as they share this sleeping space, the more Tatsumi feels like this is right where they should be.

‘I want to spend more time like this with you.’

The words remain unspoken, but Tatsumi does give in to the urge to place a chaste kiss on Toujou’s forehead. He’s been awake long enough, it’s time to start the day.

However, as Tatsumi tried to sit up, Toujou wraps an arm around Tatsumi’s waist and keeps him still. Groggy voice reverberating into the room. “Tatsumi, let’s live together.”

              “Eh?” That was so sudden.

“Let’s find an apartment where we can live together.” Toujou reiterated even when he was barely out of sleep’s grasp. “I want you to be the last thing I see before bed and the first thing I see in the morning.”

Tatsumi could not fully describe the warmth that swelled in his chest at the declaration, the happiness that overtook him when he realized that his partner wanted the same thing he did.

What else could Tatsumi do other than lean down and place a kiss on Toujou’s lips. “I’d love to.”
