Batman keeps getting "severe" injuries on missions but shrugs them off. After being insistent on being non-meta the JL start to worry.
But that's just how Bruce is, he may be a cryptid, and sure injuries don't hurt him and he may also be immortal... but that doesn't mean he can't fake being non-meta, if they research too much into his kind then his children will be uncovered!
But after centuries of being a cryptid he may or may not have forgotten how "average" non-meta's react and behave... at first they shrugged it off as Batman being... well Batman. But even Batman can't not react to some of these injuries... can he?

Summary
Gotham was a city of shadows and pain, and Bruce knew it well. He also knew it should not be as harsh as it was. If Bruce must become a creature of shadows and pain in his own right in order to heal what was broken in his city, he would. And one by one, his family would follow him into the breach.
As for Gotham herself? For her champions, she would give of everything she was so they have the strength to provide hope to her children.
