who would have imagined?

Summary:

Bruce is about fifteen when he learns he can't have children.

He can't remember what he thought. Was he upset at the thought of not having pups? Scared for the future of Wayne Industries after he died? Worried his parents would be disappointed?

Bruce couldn't tell, couldn't remember. It didn't matter anyway. The Wayne line had more kids than he knew what to do with.

Moments in Bruce's life as an omega with seven alphas and seven pups

Chapter 1: early mornings

Chapter Text

Bruce is about fifteen when he learns he can't have children. It was after his first heat (late), and he passed out from a burning and twisting pain in his stomach. Alfred had found him in the shower, sobbing while curled up in the fetal position and cradling his stomach, and immediately called Leslie.

It was endometriosis, she said, face drawn tight, and it would cause problems for Bruce's entire life. Pain during periods, irregular heats, possible pain during sex, and infertility. It was apparently common among male omegas and female alphas, caused by their mismatched body parts. Sex organs can get mixed up and confused while in the womb, causing irregularities in the body, especially when they're mixed.

That day feels… muted now that Bruce can look back on it. He can remember the way Alfred looked at him, eyes sad, and the prescription Leslie wrote for painkillers and birth control, to be taken as needed. But he can't remember what he thought. Was he upset at the thought of not having pups? Scared for the future of Wayne Industries after he died? Worried his parents would be disappointed?

Bruce couldn't tell, couldn't remember. It didn't matter anyway. The Wayne line had more kids than he knew what to do with.

Bruce can't remember the last time he was able to wake up without someone in his nest. Whether it be one of the many people he's shared a bed with or one of his kids who had a nightmare and snuck in, there's always at least two bodies in the nest.

This morning, it's Clark holding Bruce close, with Damian in between them.

Bruce blinks down at his youngest son. He was fussy last night and took a long time to fall asleep. The full house certainly hadn't helped. Dick and Jason had gotten back from Titans Tower the night before, and Selina had dropped Cass off, so the manor was louder than normal. Poor Damian didn't seem to like all the noise.

Clark sighed and mumbled in his sleep, pulling both Damian and Bruce close. The pup fussed a bit, and Bruce smiled softly and unbuttoned his sleep shirt. He pulled Dami close, letting his youngest latch and begin suckling.

There, that should keep him quiet for just a bit longer.

"Good morning," Clark murmured, eyes slowly blinking open. He pressed closer to Bruce, almost squishing Damian in his haste to get close. He sniffed down at the milky-pup smell, "He hungry?"

"No, just tired still," Bruce said back, "Not much is coming out anyway." After Cass, Bruce's milk supply slowed down a considerable amount. Poor Damian didn't get as much teat time as the others and Bruce didn't even need to wear a nursing bra anymore.

Clark sniffed some more, even licking a bit at the top of Bruce's shrinking breasts, before pressing a kiss to his cheek. "I'll go check on the others," he said with that bright, farm boy smile. "Do you want me to bring up food for you?"

Bruce checked the clock behind Clark. It was almost ten already, and Bruce needed to get out of bed. But it was so warm, and Damian was already comfortable…

"Please?" Bruce asked, stroking his pup's head. Dami pressed into his mother's hand, tiny fingers gripping his shirt.

Clark smiled again and pressed another kiss to Bruce's cheek before practically bouncing away. The door shut quietly with a soft click, and the room fell into contented silence with only small sucks to break it. Bruce closed his eyes with a soft sigh, drifting off into sleep.

For about all of two minutes.

Bruce was startled awake by a soft knock. The door slowly opened again, and Cass slowly poked her head in. Her eyes found Bruce's, and she tilted her head to the side in a silent question.

"Come in, sweetheart," Bruce said softly, making sure not to wake the pup.

Cass's face broke out into a grin and she quickly ran in on light feet, closing the door behind her. She practically jumped into bed on the side that Clark had vacated and snuggled deep into the covers.

Damian, thankfully, didn't react badly to his older sister and just kept sucking. Even if Bruce wasn't making anything for him to suck. Cass didn't press as close as Clark, but her presence was just as soothing.

"Did you have fun with your papa?" Bruce asked quietly, patting his pup on the back. Selina had picked up Cass for the weekend, taking her to a show in Bludhaven. Cass was happy to whisper excitedly, hands and fingers twitching as she spoke in quick, hushed whispers.

(And if Bruce noticed a few missing paintings in the news the following days, well, he could happily ignore it with how much fun Cass seemed to have.)

When Cass was finished recounting her time with Selina, she yawned wide and snuggled into the bed, closing her eyes and dozing lightly. Damian had unlatched as well, falling back to sleep for now. Bruce smiled softly and pulled the covers up above his daughter's shoulders to keep her warm. Cass got cold the easiest of all of Bruce's pups, something Alfred liked to say she got from her maternal grandmother.

When Clark had finally gotten back, a tray of breakfast in his hands, he found the three of them asleep in the nest. He smiled softly and set the meal on the bedside table to be eaten later. He pressed a kiss to the crown of Bruce's head and tucked the omega in as best as he could without waking them up. Damian fussed a bit, but stayed asleep thankfully.

Clark left Bruce to sleep, closing the door silently behind him. There was a large crash downstairs and Clark winced. "Daaaaaad!" Dick called and Clark couldn't help but chuckle softly as he walked away from Bruce's room.

It was never a dull day in Bruce's home.
