"You've never been with a bitch in heat?" House questioned with the tone of an interrogator as James winced at the language. "When exactly did you plan on telling me that?"
"I don't know, I thought you and your genius IQ could deduce that much on your own. Sam was a beta," James spat back, a venom in his voice that died as soon as it hit his own ears. Guilt flashed across his features, sincerity and solemnity settling in his tone, "and so was the girl I cheated on her with."
James didn't like bringing up the mistakes he made before House, all the relationships he'd tried and failed to hold as sacred. This, though, this thing they had between them, forged in friendship above all else, had to be different. God, he hoped this time would be different.
