Chapter Text
Wolf’s eyes landed on Kitty as her, Doom, and Pigtail were taken away by police. He felt his heart quicken just looking at the leopard. It was like world slowed down as he watched her. She had cuts and bruises on her face, cheek swollen, busted lip, and brows furrowed in an unreadable expression. She was obviously upset but he had no way of knowing if it was angry or maybe sad…
Wolf felt a pang in his chest as the guilt sank in. This was all his fault. He couldn’t talk her out of it. He didn’t try hard enough.
He opened his mouth to say something. Anything. But nothing came out. He wanted nothing more than to call out to her, run to her, hug her. Which was ridiculous… right? Why did he want to run to her so bad? Why did he want to embrace her? After everything she’s done, why did he feel his heart break when he looked at her? He should be angry with her but he just couldn’t.
He eyes began to sting with tears as the medic helping him guided him to an ambulance. Wolf—rather painfully— craned his neck even as he was being taken the other direction because he just couldn’t stop staring, feeling like he should say something. But before he could make up his mind, the doors of the police truck slammed shut behind the girls. In that moment, the only words that could come out of Wolf’s mouth as tears began flowing was a weak and quiet;
“Kitty…”
In the next weeks to come, Wolf wouldn’t be able to think about anyone but Kitty. How he failed her, how she betrayed him, how stupid he might have been, how he could have fixed things, how messy his feelings about her were.
Why was his feelings so messy?
Well, while he couldn’t admit this to anyone else…
He loved Kitty. That’s what made all of this so much harder.
