Work Text:

Viktor was hard at work at his average paying retail job. He wasn’t paying much mind to the customers during most of his long, 8 hour shift. His shift was almost over and he just wanted to get this order done and clock out.

“I’m so sorry dear, my wife ran to grab something.”

He heard a voice. A beautiful voice. He turned the light off to his register and turned to face her.

“Oh..”

The woman standing in front of him was  a beauty. No..ethereal. A goddess of brown curls, with mixes of grey sneaking in. Beautiful orange top and gold adorned jewelry. She smiled at him warmly and he almost lost his cool.

Almost.

“It’s no worries, the lines are empty. I was just about to close. You’re my last customer of the day.

She clapped her hands excitedly. She had a few traces of blue in her earrings and on one of the rings.

“Oh thank goodness! She had to run all the way to the other side of the store if I recall. Normally I’d insist on just coming back another time but Washford just needs the tonight’s dinner date,”

The woman eyed him and his name tag.

“Viktor, is it? What a lovely name you have.”

“Haha..thank you miss..”

Viktor blushed as he looked at her, a look of shyness and fluster in his eyes. He was thinking to himself. Do not look at the customers like.. whatever that just was. But the older woman just laughed and shook her head, not seeming to mind. In fact, she seemed entertained by him.

“You must be taken aback by my beauty! Not unheard of, of course.

“Oh quit teasing the poor boy Drydee. He’s just trying to do his job”

Another beautiful woman walked up, placing a bottle of wine on the conveyer belt. She was just as pretty as her partner, red hair behind her in an elegant braid.

“Isn’t he adorable though? Look at him, Washy…”

They both locked eyes with him. Viktor gulped nervously and bagged the last item before looking back at them.

“Cash or card?”

Washford looked at her wife.

“Did you grab your wallet?”

“No I left it in the car,”

“Drysdale, I told you to grab it for the groceries-! Why must you always forget these things dearest?”

The two bickered well, like an old married couple. After a moment, Washford placed down some cash from her wallet and sighed.

“Sorry about that, dear one. You see somebody..”

She eyed Drysdale with a look of annoyance.

“Forgot her wallet in the car. Again. At least I came prepared..”

She handed him the amount needed. Viktor took it and placed the money in the register.

“Oh, and here’s a little tip, for your hard work and putting up with us, cherub,”

Drysdale handed him an extra five, with a pretty little lipstick stain and some glitter.

“Ta-ta,”

Before he could refuse or at least inquire about where it came from, the two were waving goodbye and heading out of the store

Did that really just happen?

“Hey champ, you doing alright?”

Tom walked over seeing the flustered expression on his face. Viktor did you best to regain his composure after what had happened. He shut down his check stand and sighed.

“Sorry. Just a customer that’s all..2 customers actually..”

“Were they causing you any problems? I can file an incident report if you need me to-“

Tom, I think I’m bisexual.

Tom froze for a moment. Before giving a smile.

“That’s great champ! Our company has an amazing inclusivity program—”

“Tom.”

Viktor looked at him. He shook his head.

“I’m trans. And..something. I don’t know anymore.

“Oh..yeah.”

Viktor was too busy thinking about those two. It was silly, foolish, and whatever else you could use to describe it as. The feeling was foreign. He had always liked guys but for the time ever, he had fallen for the other gender.

“Well whatever you decide to be champ, I’ll support you.”

Tom’s tone was sincere. Viktor smiled.

“Thanks Tom. You’re the best.”

He clocked out, hung his apron up, and went to walk home. Not paying any mind to the car he walked past that was full of two giggling and laughing older ladies.
