Work Text:
It had been months since Teddy had seen you smile. Everyday it seemed, you would come home and just look, so, so, sad. Most nights you cried yourself to sleep, and he would be there right by your side. Even if you couldn’t see him. You could feel his comfort.
Once you got the glasses, he knew it was his chance to hopefully help you even more through your sorrows. But it was harder than he realized. Every time he tried to talk to you, you pushed him away. Even if you weren’t trying to be mean, it hurt. Not just him, but you.
It was a cold, winter night, snow pouring down. After a particularly tough day at work, he found you curled up in the bathroom on the floor after throwing off your coat and setting your keys aside.
“..Hey,”
You couldn’t bear to look up at him. Your head was in your knees and you shook with every breath. He crouched down, placing a gentle hand on your shoulder. Teddy had his other hand running through your hair.
“You can talk to me about anything. Are you okay?”
That broke you. You began sobbing hysterically, unable to stop. It was just too much for you at the moment. You couldn’t even remember the last time anyone had asked you if you were okay. And your teddy bear, of all people (or objects), had been the one to ask.
“Hey hey hey now, it’s alright, just get it all out okay?”
Teddy sat down, arms wrapped around you. You hugged back, sobbing into his fuzzy coat. Every attempt at calming down leads to more choked out cries and stuffy noses. You felt bad about his coat, Teddy didn’t mind though. He just held you close as time silently ticked on.
“..Sorry. Todays been rough and everything’s hell and all i’m sorry-“
“It’s alright. You don’t have anything to be sorry for.”
He wiped more tears from your eyes. Teddy would wait however long it took for you to fully compose yourself. After a minute you took another breath.
“My coworkers..they’ve all been giving me hell.”
“Over what?”
You sigh. It had been for too many things. Too many to list.
“Just..everything. I’m so tired of them..”
He eased up on you a bit. But had a hand wrapped around one of your free hands.
“Everyone’s always bullied me, for my hair, for my face..it’s not fair. Am I that unlikable?”
Teddy wouldn’t lie to you. He had no reason to. He shook his head and sighed.
“Some people in this world are just full of hate. You’re wonderful, you deserve to be loved, and don’t ever let anyone make you think otherwise.”
You rubbed your eyes, “You really mean it?”
He smiled at you. That smile always warmed something in your heart. Whether he was Human or just a cuddly teddy bear.
“Of course I mean. Come on, I know just the thing to cheer you up!”
He helped you off the ground. You followed him down to the kitchen. Teddy sat you down at the table and began working on a well cup of hot chocolate for the both of you.
“Do you want anything with it? Whipped cream, maybe a peppermint?”
You couldn’t help but crack a tiny smile. So small it seemed insignificant. But Teddy noticed. And that smile was all he needed.
“Sure. That sounds lovely Teddy.”
He got to work making the hot chocolate. It wasn’t fancy, just a quick mix you had in your cupboard, and some whip cream on top for the both of you. You took a sip, quickly putting the cup down when you nearly burned your tongue off.
“Careful! It’s still hot!”
You laughed a little and nodded.
“Well, it is hot chocolate isn’t it?”
The whipped cream helped cool it down, thankfully. After a few minutes you took another sip, the liquid hot enough to warm you up but not burn your lips. Teddy drank his as well. Snow fell outside, a cold January night.
Your hour wasn’t the most warm. The air conditioning was kind of wack sometimes.
“Brrr..”
Teddy noticed your shivering. He walked over to the fireplace and started it up. Soon you two were both wrapped in warm blankets and were sitting together in front of the fireplace.
“Thanks Teddy. That did make me feel a lot better..”
Your smile was enough to warm a dozen cities. At least Teddy thought so.
“Of course. You have a great smile, you know,”
He gave a slightly more serious look, “You should really use it more.”
You yawn and rub your eyes. Even his most serious look didn’t scare or worry you.
“I will, I will.”
It was getting pretty late. After all, you had arrived home after a closing shift. You tried to fight off the slumber but soon found your eyelids growing heavy. Teddy chuckled as you slumped over, now fast asleep on the floor.
“Let’s get you to bed now,”
He picked you up. Despite being a teddy bear, he had some strength. He carried you upstairs to your room, placing you down on the bed. He could see the smile on your face even as you slept. Mission accomplished.
“Goodnight..”
He laid down next to you, poofing back into the cuddly teddy bear you knew and loved, ready to be in your arms once again.
