Cleon’s Cat Fights

Aneesa and Kenita have been best friends since, being honest, since Junior year of high school. Once they had to throw up their caps for graduation, both of their parents kicked them out to fend for themselves. They both tried finding jobs. Each one was a fail. With more failures of their job applications piling up, they got desperate.

Aneesa looked at the rent papers, her hair matted and eyes tired. Kenita was currently working her 9 to 5 job at the gas station and Aneesa was in charge of making dinner, even though all they had were pasta noodles and a few eggs.

She sighed, putting the papers away and grabbed the newspaper for a job. She looks for anything to get some sort of money for the apartment.

Being a nurse might not be so bad… She thought, her eyes still skimming over the paper. That wasn’t until she saw a bar looking for bartenders and waiters.

Kenita, through the years, has always made the best mocktails whenever there was a high school party. Aneesa is really good with people, and really good with remembering what they like. This would be perfect for them!

“Heeey Ken, table four wants the usual Bloody Marys.” Aneesa called to her friend as she leaned on the bar table, grinning widely. Kenita rolled her eyes as she patched up a co-worker.

“Easy there, Aneesa. Piper got hit in the face with a bottle of whisky because she denied someone service.” Kenita answered, finishing up with the bandages. Piper was an Asian young lady in her late twenties, she was pretty with her dark hair and her dark eyes, and now had a bruised cheek on her left side.

“I’ll find him.” Aneesa said suddenly, going to look for the person that hit her.

“Aneesa, no-”

Finally, she found it. It was a guy in a blue denim waist coat with a symbol on the back with an odd font that says “Destoryers” . Aneesa rolled her eyes at the odd fashion choices, putting a hand on the guy. The man turned around, shrugging her hand off.

“Yo! Hands off, lady!” He shouted, his words slurred and his breath stinking of alcohol. Yeah, no wonder Piper cut him off.

“Did you hurt my friend?”

“What?”

“Did you hurt my friend? The one that was serving you.”

“Oh, that little slut… Yeah, whatcha gonna do about it?”

Aneesa’s blood boiled at that. No one calls her friends a slut. So, she did the thing that was perfectly reasonable and calm. She bitch slapped that man. He stood up from his seat, puffing his chest up to look bigger, as if he wasn’t big enough. He was about 6 foot, maybe taller. And Aneesa is about 5 '10. The other men, also wearing blue denim waist coats with the same “ destroyer” with the odd font, stood up. Aneesa balled her hands tightly, ready to fight. A member went for a punch, making her dodge and sucker punch him. He fell to the floor, and another went behind her. She whipped her head, roundhouse kicking him in the head and then going for the balls. He whimpered, putting his hands over his crouch and going onto his knees. More kept coming, and at this point there was no end to this gang. It wasn’t until Aneesa was on her tenth match that she noticed that Kenita was fighting with her. She smirked once they met eyes, gaining a bit more energy and strength. Soon, there was a sharp click of a lighter, and the boys calmed down. They stopped fighting the girl, and the boys lined up, shuffling their feet in embarrassment. They all kept their heads down as a man in an afro walked towards the two, a blunt in two fingers. It smelled earthy and strong, most likely weed.

“Destroyers, what’s going on?” He asked, looking at the girl. He smirked, taking a puff before making a small ring. “And what are you two lovely ladies doing here?” He asked the two girls, taking Kentia’s hand and kissing it. She giggled, and then straightened once Aneesa glared at her.

“One of your little destroyers hurt our friend. And then called her a slut.” Aneesa answered, her arms crossing, not noticing her cheek bleeding the tiniest bit. The man looked to his army, and each and every one of them pointed to the drunk guy.

“Snake, uncool. You’re out. Give me your waistcoat.”

“But Virgil-”

Now.

The guy- Snake, apparently- grumbled under his breath and handed him the coat, pointing the middle finger to the leader as he walked off. Virgil turned back to Aneesa and Kenita, his eyes showing a type of loving and gentle sparkle.

“You ladies,” He pointed out politely, “Should be part of me and my gang.”

The two looked at each, silently debating whether to join or not. These guys have been regulars since they both started, so maybe it would be fun.

“You’d be able to have your jobs, this would be more of a… night gig, if you know what I mean.”

Being a Destroyer was… Odd, to say the least. Virgil was thinking of giving Kenita and Aneesa different names so that they wouldn’t be traced if they got caught. Initiation was just being able to sell drugs to different parts of New York with other members of the gang. Aneesa and Kenita were getting used to this new routine. Wake up, grab something to eat, go to work, and then have something to eat before going to meet up at the boardwalk. It’s been a few months since the two have joined, Virgil has been getting more and more irresponsible with things. Like one week, he forgot to get the milk, then the next he forgot that three of his men had gone out on a mission that he sent out and got worried. And then yelled at the three before only then realizing it’s his mistake, and never apologized for it. Virgil was a megalomaniac, and would always think he was perfect and his ideas were the best and foolproof. He never cared about the gang’s future or what should come next, but instead would go to a bar or a club.

Soon, the destroyers were starting to turn from the greatest and strongest gang, to something only heard in whispers. Virgil was getting paranoid of traitors that he’s been doing more drug use. Kenita felt the need to stop being in this gang, while Aneesa felt like she was invisible now. They’ve been going out, doing dirty work for Virgil while he got drunk and high off his ass! They haven’t even gotten their names yet! They’ve been called “ladies”, which Aneesa did not like.

After a few more months of waiting, Virgil died. The Destroyers separated and Aneesa never got her new name…
