Work Text:
Your hand, is just perfect
They were sitting in perfect silence.
A comforting silence. As if it had always been for the two. The underlying understanding they had realised they both shared since the very beginning they had met on Skako Minor all that time ago. Which was speaking volumes more than any meaningless words ever could.
Echo and Crosshair.
Totally dissimilar to the other, yet somehow, quite the same.
And now, after everything having happened in between, the two shared something else too. Something rather unexpected, yet familiar in so many ways.
Both of them having a cybernetic hand. It was the same right hand no less. The supposedly dominant one to be used, despite of all clones being ambidextrous at best.
“So, can I see it?” Echo asked, breaking the silence.
This was still all new for Crosshair. Having spare parts on his body was Wrecker called it. Not that Echo’s own hand was that much older than that. Having gotten a proper one after the Tantiss rescue as devices by Tech, much like Crosshair’s was. But Echo was familiar with cybernetics from before which Cross was not.
“Why?”
“Well, it’s new and it’s you and I’m interested.”
Crosshair let out a nervous chuckle. Guess it was still new to him, being back and feeling, interesting in any way. Echo always having made him feel that way despite their not always seeing eye to eye.
“It’s nothing special, not like yours is, Echo.” Crosshair insisted, but moved his hand so that Echo. could have a look at it just the same. “Can’t scomp with it or anything like that. Nothing like you can do.“
The underlying admiration was present in Crosshair’s tone, having always appreciated Echo’s unique abilities even if he had not said it out loud. Not before he hadn’t.
Echo looked at the hand as he gently drew it into his. Touching it, caressing it, turning it up and down, admiring the feel of it. It was, unique in Echo’s mind. Much like the man it was attached to.
“No. Guess not. But I’m special in a different way from you, Cross, and it’s all good in my book.”
Echo’s tone having the admiration he held for the others of his team, his family. Each with their own uniqueness Echo loved about them all.
Crosshair gazed at Echo in surprise, true. But it wasn’t the first time Echo had told him this and yet it too somehow felt new and special all at the same time.
“We’re lucky Tech made these for us, each matching to our abilities.” Echo then added, admiring the handiwork. Literally. And this time as well, Tech’s, the resident genius’ abilities never ceasing to amaze Echo.
“Yeah… it’s still great, better than the original, I guess.” Crosshair admitted, even if he still missed the more organic feel of his flesh hand despite the synthetic skin like exterior of his new appendix.
“Well then, guess we should try something out with it then? Break both hands properly in?”
Echo had a mischievous grin on his lips just then.
Crosshair’s brows certainly hiking up in a slight surprise.
“What are you suggesting?” The voice impossibly coarse suddenly.
“Well, I have a few things I can think of. If you’re up to the task.” Echo’s grin growing more and more wide.
The following wink not leaving too much to the imagination either.
Crosshair swallowed audibly, but it was too good of an offer to pass.
“I’m game if you are.”
