Echo and the friendly Droid
Echo was sitting all by himself in the medbay dressing room.
Something of a norm for Echo it had become these days. The ARC having gone through rigorous tests and evaluations ever since his return from the dead. Well, Echo having been listed as KIA.
Echo, having been a prisoner of war and an unwilling participant in the enemy’s scheme to defeat the Republic with his help.
And so now, Echo was going through oodles and oodles of examinations and tests to prove he was all recovered from the ordeal and trustworthy to be serving the Republic once again.
Sighing heavily, Echo felt at a loss.
True, he was wanted by both Rex and Cody. Not to mention his new friends, Clone Force 99. But unfortunately those weren’t the ones making the heavy duty decisions of whether Echo could return to duty or not.
It was all so frustrating for the highly active trooper. Always having been the one ready to serve no matter what.
Just as Echo felt the boredom and all those bad feelings starting to take over his thoughts once again, he heard a familiar whistle close by.
And then, someone unexpected rolling in on his three wheels and straight to where Echo was at.
“R2!”
“Beep boop!”
The two old friends greeted each other cheerfully. Echo patting the droid with his good hand. Happy to see a familiar and friendly face(?) while having been in his solitude for a while now, not counting the Kaminoans of course.
“Been a while.”
“Boop whoop!”
“You can say that again!” Echo chuckled , R2 never the one to mince words but clearly having come to see Echo especially.
“So, you alone or is Threepio somewhere nearby!”
Echo glanced around alas no golden droid anywhere to be seen.
“Boop.”
“Yeah I hear ya my friend.” Echo laughed again, R2 usually having cheered him up in the past as well and this time it was no different. The two always having gotten along quite well, even before Echo had become a cyborg himself.
“Beepety boop.”
“Yeah, I guess I’m different now, with this one.” Echo waved his scomp in the air in front of R2.
“Boopty boo!”
“Yeah, ya like it!” Echo chuckled. “Well, I have to admit it can be useful, just well, getting some used to, is all.” Echo admitted as much.
However, here was certainly no judgment from R2, only interest in the now human hybrid of an ARC trooper.
“Beep boop beep.”
“Ya wanna have a look? Sure why not.”
Echo let R2 check out the scomp arm, the droid admiring it for a long moment.
“Beep beep?”
“You wanna try it out? Connect with me?” Echo hadn’t really tried that function yet, between him and a droid. So far he hadn’t.
“Boop.”
“Well, it could prove to be, guess interesting and easier to talk and share my thoughts and yours too.”
Echo thought about the offer for a spell. They were friends after all, going back a long time.
“Why not!”
Echo scomped with R2. The droids world suddenly available to him. And right now, for Echo, with his new modifications, it felt like being at home. Echo being welcomed and able to share more without taking with R2. His innermost thoughts and feelings. As R2 had those too. Something Echo had known about the droids for a long time. Them being sentient.
It really felt good with the connection and all, as the two now shared thoughts without the need for any words. Just two friends, having a sharing moment. Together.
Guess being cyborg was going to be good after all.
