Chapter Text
Kyle put a hand on Chase’s thigh. Chase looked down at it like it was a foreign object.
“I gotta go.” He said abruptly.
“Why? You just got here.” Kyle fretted.
It was true, Kyle invited Chase to come over to spend time with him at his motorhome and after a while of waiting Chase finally came. That couldn’t have been more than a half hour ago.
“I… there’s just something I gotta do. I’ll come back tomorrow.”
Chase stood up from the couch and was already heading for the door. Kyle chased after, lightly grabbing his arm, looking him in the eyes.
“I love you, Chase.”
Kyle leaned up and kissed Chase on the corner of his lips. He pulled away slowly, observing Chase’s face. Chase didn’t look at him, didn’t flash that warm southern smile he’d come to know over the past three years.
“Loveyoutoo.”
And just like that, Chase walked out, and Kyle was left alone in his RV, wondering what had happened to his relationship.
~~
Chase sped away from Kyle’s motorhome as fast as his legs would take him.
He didn’t know how to say it. How to tell him he’d fallen out of love, that he had found someone else. The guilt was eating at him from inside out.
It’s not that he hated Kyle, he liked him, and at one point did love him. But over the past few months he realized that Kyle might not be the one.
He’d been best friends with Ryan since he entered the sport, and that’s all they ever were. Chase never thought about him in any sort of way, and from what he gathered Ryan never thought about him either. He was very open to Kyle that him and Ryan were friends and Kyle never had a problem with it.
Then one night Ryan invited Chase over.
It was nothing unusual. He’d gone over to Ryan’s place many times to play video games or just crack stupid jokes.
They sat on the couch, watching some shitty Outer Banks episode. Ryan had fallen asleep. Chase had noticed but just kept watching, he wanted to see how it ended.
Ryan shifted in his sleep, now turned toward chase with his face have buried in the couch cushion.
“I love you Chase…” He mumbled. Still asleep.
They say that dreams are a window into the mind and if that was true for Ryan then Chase was in deep shit. This would make things complicated. He would have to tell Kyle to keep their relationship honest, but at the same time he didn’t want to give up Ryan. He was his best friend no matter what. He didn’t want that to change.
Chase had to get back to his house, to think. He shook Ryan awake.
“Hey man, I gotta get back home, it’s getting late. Talk to you later.”
“Oh- okay. See ya later Clyde!” Ryan shouted at him as he sped out the door, and back to his house, as he sped back to his RV now.
When he got home that night he thought. Thought a lot. Considered it.
He realized what he had unknowingly been pushing to the back of his mind for a long time.
Finally Chase arrived at the door of his motorhome, punching in the code as fast as he could.
He didn’t want to hurt Kyle. He didn’t want to hurt himself either.
