Something More

Summary:

Ghost admits that he is a little interested in who you are as a person and not just by the Light of the Traveller.

Notes:

Hey fellow Guardians 👋🏻

I haven't played a Destiny game since it migrated to Playstation but that doesn't stop me from loving the original story arcs!

With Ghosts being almost 'sentinels' of the Traveller and its Light, I did wonder how that influenced their interactions and perception of the Guardian.

This is a short one-shot of fluff.

Enjoy ⚡️

Work Text:

“Every Ghost is created knowing that we have to find our Guardian. We don't know what they look like - not on the outside, anyway. But on the inside, I'd always known who you were and that together, we could be something more.” Your Ghost lowered the top half of his shell to conceal himself tightly, turning away as he realised you were now looking at him intently even through the visor of your helmet.
“Heh, we certainly did become something more. I think we’ve made quite a force to be reckoned with and I can’t thank you enough for how many times you revived me when we were on the Dreadnaught; without you, I wouldn’t have tracked the Light- ” Ghost continued to feign ignorance before transmatting out of sight. It tied an uncomfortable knot in the pit of your stomach.

“Is something wrong?” you pressed, concerned with the barriers that were quickly erected.
“It’s nothing really,” you heard the obvious waver in his electronic voice, he was nervous.
“Tell me, I'm your Guardian afterall.” After what you deemed to be a moment of consideration, you heard a sigh that sent a shiver down your spine.
“It’s just that, all this time we've spent together, everything we’ve been through, the Crucible, the Iron Banner, the Nightfall and even then I still only know what your Light looks like and from that I can only imagine how beautiful you are.”

You gasped, not really knowing how to respond to the compliment from your own little Guardian and he very quickly enters a panicked state.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that, maybe I have a malfunction, I should speak to Cayde-“
Stop it for a second," you scold, letting the silence breathe momentarily.
"It was really nice of you to say, so thank you.”
“Y-you’re welcome Guardian” Ghost replied, a little calmer this time which set you at ease.
“And please, you don't have to call me Guardian.” Ghost materialised in front of you and from the bounce in his flight, you realised that there certainly was more to your relationship than you originally thought and that brought you immense comfort.
