Pride

Summary:

Agnes sneaks into Wednesday’s dorm.

Notes:

I think I give up with smut, writing it on its own isn’t too hard but trying to transition into smut is very difficult. Here’s another fluff oneshot

Same AU as ‘show me your face’, thinking of names

Work Text:

Agnes took pride in her ability to bypass detection from others, no camera could see her when invisible and certainly no eyes could. But recently, the longer she’s spent followed Wednesday the easier it was for the girl to identify her when invisible.. and by association so could her mutt.

In the recent few weeks, Agnes has found herself inexplicably drawn to Enid Sinclair. Perhaps just because of the association with her true adoration.. or maybe Agnes’ obsession is spreading. For a teenage girl that can turn invisible in order to do whatever she wants restraint is a fading memory. So here she was, looming above Wednesday’s desk staring at the empty type writer. She wasn’t particularly looking for anything, but the prospect of sitting in her chair while she was out was something clouding her mind in the moment. Her distraction was likely the reason she had allowed herself to be snuck up on. With a swipe she was pulled back into a bone crushing hug.

“Gotcha!”

Blonde hair flashed in the corner of her eye as she was nearly pulled off her feet from the hug. “Let- let go!” She tried, flailed, to get herself from the grip but the taller girl wasn’t letting go. “Why are you invisible Agnie? You’re allowed in here whenever you want!” Agnes flashed back into sight, her eyes glaring scorch marks into the hard wood floor. “Don’t call me that, you act like an incessant child given a new toy.” Enid only giggled at that, giving her ‘new toy’ one more tight squeeze before letting go.

Agnes rubbed her chest softly, the burn of rough handling being the perfect distraction from her stomach’s own sensation. “Why are you here.. aren’t you supposed to be doing some kind best friend activity?” Enid just tilted her head, her ears shifting to the side as she stepped closer. Her breath was warm on Agnes’ cheek. “I wanted to see you, and I just thought.. if you weren’t with Wednesday or me, where would you be? So I came here! It’s like you spend more time in our dorm than your own.” That’s because she does. There wasn’t anything wrong with spending time with Josephine.. she just wasn’t as dedicated to Wednesday as she oughta be.

“You know Willa’s really just embarrassed.”

“That was unprompted..” Agnes tried turning her attention back to Wednesday’s desk but couldn’t muster up that same mindless state that was treasured. Enid laughed, breathy and short as she pulled Agnes along towards her bed. “No it wasn’t, I just wanted to say it earlier and figured I’d just force a chance to say it. Wednesday.. she.. she’s not used to people really liking her, and since she got all famous.. well you’re like the only person who stuck around with Wednesday after the trend died down. She doesn’t know what to do with you.”

“She seems to have to problem letting you mess with me, seems to me that she’s got it handled.”

“She doesn’t tell me to ‘handle’ you Agnes. I like being with you.”

Agnes was trying her best to not let her body lean any closer to Enid as was prompted but the longer this uncomfortable conversation was going on the closer she seemed to get to Agnes. Unsure if it was her or Enid moving closer, Agnes stood up abruptly. “Listen-“ “Agnes.”

Agnes nearly hiccuped from the force of her name being thrown out of Enid’s throat. Her wrist was gripped and soon she was back on the bed, staring directly into intense eyes.

“Agnes, I swear you’re like- a skittish squirrel.”

“Mm! You’re really turning into a dog-“

“Agnes!”

“Next thing I know you’ll be chewing bones and-“

Enid pressed her face- no lips, again Agnes’. The girl pushed- tried to push Enid away but apparently wolves are as heavy as they are strong because she couldn’t make the beast budge. She couldn’t make her own body move either, she felt her skin tensing and relaxing with each push of breath into her mouth.

“We need to talk Agnes.”

“No we don’t- we- we.. aren’t even a we”

“Then what are we?”

“Enemie-“

“That’s ridiculous! How are we enemies??”

“Because.. we’re fighting for Wednesday’s affection.”

Enid laughed at that, loudly. She hugged Agnes, gentle.. comparatively.. as she pulled Agnes unbearably closer. “We’re not fighting for Wednesday. I mean, I like Wednesday.. but I LIKE you. Not her.”

Agnes shot up, falling backwards from the edge of the bed and going invisible all in one second. She tried launching herself into a  dash for the door but a certain werewolf was on top of her in the first step. A hard knee pushed into her back, likely on accident given Enid’s nature but it succeeded in stopping the invisible girl. A few seconds of awkward prodding and Enid discovered Agnes’ exact position and pulled her into a hug from behind. Agnes hated hugs.. she still does. She thinks she hates hugs still, but her stomach isn’t agreeing with her mind and it’s unbalancing her everything.

“Agnes.” Enid growled into her ear, sending shivers of uncharted emotions spiraling down her spine and skin. “Agnes.. Agnes, stop.. running! If we don’t talk now, if you walk out that door.. then it’ll be over. I can’t keep chasing you. I’m going to let go, okay?” Enid’s grip loosened but she didn’t release Agnes yet. “If you choose to run.. that’s your decision. But know, I care for you. For YOU. Not Wednesday, not the girl who idolizes and Mimi is Wednesday.. but YOU. And.. and.. I think you like me too. A little bit, if not to the same level.” Her grip loosened more until she had finally released Agnes and was sitting on her knees just behind her. She didn’t turn around.

“I have.. appreciated your companionship.” Agnes began to speak, her words slow and calculated. “And I.. do too, believe there may.. possibly be some sort of, deeper connection that I.. cannot find myself able to.. deny.”

“It is so hard not to laugh at your dialogue right now”

“Shut up!”

Agnes turned around, pushing Enid into the floor but strangely enough her lips were turned upwards and the girl under her was laughing hard. “What!? You’re being so weird right now! ‘I find myself unable to deny’!?” She laughed harder after mocking Agnes. Feeling emboldened, Agnes pressed her palms against the bone in Enid’s wrist, feeling her own throat bubble up in that weird sort of audible joy.

“I just.. puked up my guts to you and you’re laughing!?” Agnes tried feigning the image of upset, but it somehow made Enid laugh harder. She balled up a bit, knee pushing into Agnes’ stomach with her arms clenching her stomach- when had she gotten out of Agnes’ hold?

There was a moment of just, tranquility, as Agnes watched Enid come down from the intense fit of laughing. Her body slowly unfurled and she opened her clenched eyes to see Agnes staring at her. “What, am I drooling?” Enid put the back of her hand to her lips and checked for any loose saliva but when it came back dry she looked up at Agnes confused- only, Agnes was invisible now and.. her lips were pressing tightly against Enid’s. There wasn’t any hunger or rough handling, only two girls trying to show their love in the simplest way possible.

Despite her lack of vigor, as Wednesday might call it, Agnes felt her heart beating through her skin. She was practically sitting on Enid’s stomach while she hid behind her invisibility and stared at the wolf girl. Agnes watched as Enid’s ears pressed insistently upwards and her tail, currently pushed against the floor, was moving slowly with short quick bursts of speed. Agnes was unfamiliar with werewolf behavior, and if she was being honest she didn’t know they sometimes had ears and a tail until her arrival at nevermore but with context clues she is confident in her belief that.. Enid was more than excited with their actions. “Agnes..” she smiled, it was a lazy smile like she was just as tired as Agnes was from just the one contact of lips. “Why do you hide every time we kiss?” Enid put her hands in the air and after a few prods found the sides of Agnes’ face. “I want to see that beautiful smile.” She felt encouraged, how could she not when the second most beautiful girl she’s ever laid eyes on was coaxing her into showing her face. Agnes found comfort in being invisible. It was only natural, she thought, but the idea of being able to find that same level of security in a companionship with the girl under her was beyond alluring.

“I’m smiling..” Agnes whispered, trying her best not to give up her own building of confidence. She felt she needed to build herself up, even though all it took was her own will to turn back visible. “I know you are.” Enid ran a thumb along where she thought Agnes’ lips were but really just swiped the area under her nose. Agnes wanted to laugh at that but her stomach was far too empty for that.

Just as Agnes was about to close the distance for a second kiss, forgetting about her goal of showing herself to Enid, the door to the dorm was thrown open. In came Wednesday, leaves in her hair and dirt caking her face. “Out. I need to contact someone in my crystal ball. Privately.” She glared at Enid, then her eyes moved to the empty space where Agnes was hiding. “Now. Before I chop both of you up into so many tiny pieces there won’t be enough tissue to identify your bodies”

Agnes is a sophomore in this AU. I don’t particularly have an issue with shipping a freshman and a junior, but for the sake of simplicity I think it’s easier this way.

So why did Agnes not come to Nevermore for her freshman year?

Okay so my idea is, she’s got normie parents. Invisibility is clearly a rare ability and so I came up with the idea that Agnes is the first in her family for a long time to have the outcast ability. She was raised as a normie, surrounded by normies. Her knowledge of the outcast world is entirely through to the internet, which is where she ‘met’ Wednesday through the posts of a Nevermore student. She begged her parents to let her go (for simplicity and character traits they’re gonna be wealthy enough to send her without financial aid or scholarships).

This one shot also mention Enid’s ears. In this AU, werewolves will sometimes develop Demi-wolf traits like ears and tails, and even fur in severe cases. This is most common with late bloomers, the energy of their transformation had accumulated for so long that when they finally transformed it permanently altered their human bodies.

In general, werewolves with demi traits are seen differently than regular ones. They aren’t exactly disliked, because outcasts are all different in their own way, but they are commonly separated from the regular packs.

Lastly, remember that Dividay fic I mentioned? I might be merging the two storylines for a bigger story. One big love square, because that’s what everyone loves.
